List the objectives for this lesson. Students will be able to:1. Define least common denominator (LCD), least common multiple, and equivalent fractions2. Find a common denominator by multiplying the denominators together3. Identify the LCD of 2 or more fractions4. Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators by converting to equal fractions5. Simplify fractions/numbers when necessary

How will you teach the content? This game goes along with the Grade 5, Unit 4, Day 13 lesson.

BEFORE1. TW review vocabulary on SmartBoard (denominator, numerator, mixed number, common denominator)2. TW review steps to adding fractions (with different denominators) by modeling an example on the board.3. TW pass out the math worksheet. Students will complete 1 problem with teacher and will then do 2 problems independently. After 5 minutes TW go over problems done independently. (WG talk and partner talk)4. Then the TW play YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqld5fI1v3I5. The TW show the students the steps of subtracting fractions by doing an example with the students.6. The students will do 2 examples with the teacher and then will do more practice independently.7. The students can play the game or can do their independent work in their math journals.AFTER8. The students will complete an exit slip at the end of the lesson.
