LETSwing
Music:Performance Participation Workshops Instrumental Coaching
LETSwing are:A group of musicians who spe-cialise in participatory musicmaking. They have had extensiveexperience, collectively and indi-vidually, of working in the widercommunity through such organi-sations as Age Concern, Childand Sound, The Council for Mu-sic in Hospitals, SCOPE, Dysto-nia Society, POD, Friends of ST.Clements at Bow, Robertson St.Project, Occupational Therapydepartments and Local Exchangeand Trading Systems (from whichthe name LETSwing derives).
In July 2002 in Oxford,LETSwing provided themusic for the closing partyof the 10th World Congressof Music Therapy.
PerformancesThe LETSwing repertoire is aneclectic mix of popular stylesincluding swing, rock’n’roll, reggae,calypso, 60’s pop, rock and their ownmaterial. Participation is normallyencouraged in the form of singing,dancing and hand-held percussion,which LETSwing can provide.

WorkshopsLETSwing offer workshops in rhythmand popular music styles not requiringelectronics. LETSwing encourage sug-gestions and ideas from participantsWork of this kind through TowerHamlets NHS Trust’s OccupationalTherapy department in 2000 led to aperformance by “The St. ClementsBand” (including material written andperformed by service users) at an eventto mark World Mental Health Day.
Instrumental CoachingLETSwing members offer coaching invarious instruments including piano,flute, voice, percussion, guitar, clarinetand saxophone.
