Business Challenge
l The health of a business is relevant to every employee and affected by their behavior
l Most employees have no idea how their actions contribute to the business
l Critical info is sometimes difficult to access l Now what? Create transparency using Mobile Composite KPIs!

KPIs Defined
lKey – Only a subset of all possible viewpoints, those which best reflect the state of an asset, organization or financial entity
lPerformance – Metrics related to performing ones job, or adhering to corporate or government standards, or achieving customer satisfaction
lIndicator – Not a closedloop function, KPIs are to be used by people to help them take correct action

Composite Measures Defined
l Repurpose existing data l Assembled rather than programmed l Extend value of data already created l Example: Production Rate
u Target value from SAP u Actual realtime data from AF / PI u High and Low quality limits from SQL Server u Max and Min of machine capability from MRO

Mobile Access Defined
l Desktop is a given l Business is not conducted sitting in an office
l Many roles require mobile access to data but instead rely on phone calls
l KeySpan’s talk details a dozen roles in which they employ mobile data access

Typical KPI Configuration l KPI Attributes can include:
u Actual Value (the only required attribute!) § Sourced from PI, AF 2.0, RDB or an application
u Dynamic Attributes (timevarying) § Sourced from PI, AF 2.0, RDB or an application
u Static Attributes (non timevarying metadata) u Auxiliary Data § Responsible Party § Notification Definition § Associated Displays and Links

Anatomy of a single Scorecard
l A collection of KPIs related to each other in some significant way at runtime
l Collection criteria can be a combination of Dynamic and Static KPI Attributes
l Some examples: u All KPIs for Equipment Type 1300, With Priority 1 Alarms in the Western Region
u All KPIs for Asset 67 with Status <> Good

Dealing with Many KPIs is Hard
l Most companies have hundreds or even thousands of KPIs
l Beyond a few dozen KPIs, the Scorecard Format suffers. Enter the KPI Map
l KPI Map is good for up to hundreds of KPIs
l Example: u All KPIs from the NE region u All Wind Farm Assets

Even more KPIs – Use Rollups!
l Rollups typically use “worstcase” l Overstates lowlevel problems l Transpara developed the True RollUp TM concept to handle this problem
l True RollUp (TRU) accurately reflects the state of the entire hierarchy regardless of the number of KPIs involved.

What is True RollUp TM ?
l Not “worstcase” but the entire state map of all KPIs l TRU Chart as Percentage Bar or a Percentage Pie chart.
l Drilldowns automatically adjust for total number of KPIs in hierarchy
l The TRU Chart at any level in the hierarchy shows the percentage in any state for all KPIs below that level

The AF 2.0 Revolution l An application layer for PI l Replaces programming with configuration (PI System Explorer)
l Organization of your data—1000s of points u According to naming convention u In the way that you would like to use it in displays and applications
l Organizes relational and complex data with your PI data l Your domain knowledge is reusable (centralized) l Protects your investments in your displays, reports, and applications like Visual KPI

AF 2.0 – A New Source for KPIs
l PI System Explorer helps you find KPI Attributes l Improved Element Hierarchy creates more logical access
l AF Element versioning allows Visual KPI to simply use the active version!
l Hierarchical Attributes makes the mapping to KPI Attributes simple and intuitive
l Multiple PI Server support allows KPI attributes to come from anywhere in the Enterprise

AF 2.0 Demo Architecture
l PreMixer > Reactor > Heat Exch > Prod Storage l Only Heat Exchanger is modeled
u Standard Shell & Tube, 14 KPIs u KPI Actual values indirect PI points in AF template
u KPI Limits use static AF attributes, but could easily be dynamic
u Nonprocess data is simply added in Visual KPI as metadata
