Life at Yeoval Central School

Congratulations to Bridget Smith on being awarded Cabonne Council Youth of the Month for July. Bridget was presented her award by our Mayor Kevin Beatty at their council meeting last week. Well done Bridget!

Yeoval Central School played Trundle Central last week in a friendly game of basketball. It was a fantastic game with Trundle being victors on the day, even though our team had a strong come back in the last half of the game. Thankyou Trundle and our boys for your sportsmanship and a great game of basketball.

Claire, Lucy and Colt competed at the state cross country last Friday. Congratulations to our runners - what a great achievement, they have done YCS proud. Mr Andrew Jones

Last week, we welcomed Mrs Meredith Andrews as our new TSO (Technical Support Officer). Mrs Andrews will work at YCS each Friday to support the technology in our school. We share Mrs Andrews with Trangie, Tottenham, Tullamore and Peak Hill Central Schools. I thank Mrs Anne Holden, Principal of Trangie CS for coordinating the merit selection panel for this position. Our students had a great start to learning this term and some of our secondary students had additional learning opportunities: Year 11 and 12 Primary Industries: Mr McAlister ran a WAP Assessment Day, thanks also to Mr

James Sanders who took the students to PHCS. Years 7-10 boys basketball: we thank Mr Southon and Trundle CS for a great game and also to Mr

Andrew Jones for coordinating it. NSW Combined High Schools Cross Country: well done to Lucy, Claire and Colt for competing at

State. Thank you to Mrs Smith for driving and Mr Andrew Jones for coordinating. Your P&C had two massive fundraisers over the weekend. Well done to all families who supported the Bunnings BBQ and Quick Shear. Well done to the Yeoval Quick Shear committee for another great event for our town. NSW Youth Summit - Living with Drought!

Are you a young person (14-24 years) impacted by the NSW drought? UNICEF Australia invites you to apply for the first NSW Youth Summit on Living with Drought!

UNICEF Australia, with support from the NSW Government, is hosting the first Youth Summit for young people living with drought in NSW. The Summit will be a forum for meaningful, action-oriented discussion between young people, policy-makers and service providers about how to more effectively support young people and children experiencing drought. It is also a chance to have a break from the land, build new connections with others going through similar struggles, and to connect, engage and reflect, surrounded by beautiful Lake Macquarie. If you’re aged 14-24 years and are impacted by drought, participating in the NSW Youth Drought Summit is a unique and exciting opportunity to speak up for drought-affected children and young people. Years 11/12 Primary Industries On Wednesday 24 July, Year 11 and 12 students from Yeoval attended a Primary Industries day at Peak Hill in conjunction with their current Chemicals cluster task. During the day Mr McAlister, course coordinator of Primary Industries, provided students with valuable training in the handling of chemicals, such as those used in control of weeds and the precautions that should be taken to minimise the risks of their use. Students learnt how to effectively use personal protective equipment specifically in relation to chemicals and prevention of contamination. Spill control was also addressed and students each had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills. I would like to extend my thanks to Mr McAlister and to Peak Hill Central School for hosting us and allowing us to make use of their facilities. Mr James Sanders

So grab your jeans and match with your school uniform (school shirt, jumper and shoes) to help make a difference to sick children. A gold coin donation from every denim wearer will be appreciated.
