ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE TRANSFORMATION AGENDA CROSS RIVER STATE MDGs Nigeria – Putting People First CROSS RIVER STATE THROUGH THE OSSAP- MDGs CONDITIONAL GRANT SCHEME (2011-2013) 1. MDGs to a large extent has gone a long way in helping our local communities open up a great deal and their projects have great impact on the local indigenes. What we are doing as a council to ensure sustainability is to ensure that the projects are secured and the facilities are well maintained. We also make sure that these projects are included in our budgets to meet the renovation needs of these communities. I want to say a huge thank you to the OSSAP-MDGs, the Presidency and the Cross River State Government for what they have done and also assure them that the facilities on ground will be put to their best use. - Dr. Kurian Mfam, Chairman, Obubra LGA 2. In the past, we had lots of challenges with school accommodation, and this to a great extent affected the way the teaching and learning process was carried out in the school. If you came here, you would see how the children were suffering in this school. Right now, we can see a huge difference in the school and the children are quite happy with the new classroom the MDGs have given them. They no longer have to sit in bad structures and they are quite elated. On behalf of the entire pupils and staff, we say a big thank you to OSSAP-MDGs, the government of Cross River State, and the LGA for bringing this laudable project to us. - HRH Chief Enang E. Agbo, Community Chief, Ovukwa, Obubra LGA 3. One of the challenges we faced in this school is with accommodation and good seating arrangements. The number of students was always more than the available seats, and pupils had to sit on the ground to learn. There has been a visible difference now as both teachers and pupils are quite happy because of the supplies the MDGs brought to the school. It has helped improve the teaching and learning process in the school. We cannot express our gratitude. - Mr. Innocent Ovat, Head Teacher, Holy Convent Primary School, Ofodua, Obubra LGA 4. We had not experienced these types of projects before in this community. We really didn’t expect this MDGs toilet and borehole in our school because we had nothing to hold on to in the past. It has helped reduce the suffering of the pupils in the usage of toilets and also the use of good potable drinking water. These have helped us greatly in this school. - Mr. Aba Simone, Head Teacher, Government Primary School, Belinge 1, Obanliku LGA 5. I want to thank the Almighty God for those that initiated this project. We had the challenges of classrooms, access to potable drinking water and this had been a huge problem for us. Now that MDGs has come in, we have good sitting accommodation and also, good writing materials in this school as compared to the past four or five years when the school children didn’t have access to these amenities. - Mr. Kashuo Samuel, Head Teacher, Primary School, Besenge 2, Obanliku LGA 6. We did not have a staff quarters in this PHC before and as a result medical staff usually lived about two to three kilometres away. This hampered our work a great deal, as we were totally indisposed about cases that we would want to treat, because we didn’t have a place where the staff could stay. Now, thanks to this new staff quarters, we can boast of a comfortable place to stay and it has helped us to deliver on our job by attending to patients on time. - Mr. Agba Emmanuel Oshoko, Head of PHC, Sankwala PHC, Obanliku LGA COMMENTS FROM BENEFICIARIES OF OSSAP- MDGs CGS PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES CONSTRUCTION OF 6 CLASSROOM BLOCK WITH HEAD TEACHER OFFICE & COMPUTER ROOM AT ANONG BAHUMONO COMMUNITY, ABI LGA.
