Park Board Meetings

The Effingham Park District board meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of every month at the Effingham Park District Administrative office. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.

Room Rental The Effingham Park District has rooms available for rent for a nominal fee on a limited basis. Ball diamonds may be reserved if they are not scheduled with recreation programs.

Any child who does not reside within the Effingham Park District boundaries must pay a $32.00 fee over and above normal program fees for each core program in which the child participates. This fee must be paid at the Effingham Park District office.

Policy on Non-Resident Fees

Located at 1906 South Fourth Street, Hendelmeyer Park. The Rec Center has two gymnasiums, kitchen and fine arts room.

The Devon Poland Wear Scholarship Fund All prospective participants with financial needs are eligible to apply for individual assistance, but we cannot guarantee that every request will be honored. Scholarships are based on the reduced/free lunch program in the public school system. Scholarships are limited to first come, first serve. Providing false or incomplete information on the application will result in disqualification. Scholarship forms must be completed in full and returned with the completed program registration form and the Status Notification Letter from the school verifying that you do receive free/reduced lunch.

Pool Opens Memorial Day

This is for youth who want to join the world of competitive swimming. This is not a swim lesson program. All registrants must be able to swim the length of the pool to qualify for membership. Practices will be held early mornings, Monday - Friday and meets are held on Saturday mornings. Ages 6-up

Youth Baseball Softball Programs

Khoury League Khoury  League,  for  3rd  and  4th  graders,  is  your  child’s  first experience with baseball competition. The teams are formed by a draft system; so there are no special requests. Games begin the first week of May. You must be in 3rd or 4th grade to play in this league. Games are held on the Mike Sehy field at Community Park.

Boys Small Fry Small Fry League is an instructional league designed to teach children in Kindergarten and 1st the game of baseball. This is a coach pitch league; no scores are kept. Games are played at Community Park on the Small Fry Diamond.

Jr. Babe Ruth League This league is for boys in 8th and 9th grades. This league plays on Paul Smith field at Community Park and Evergreen Hollow Park. Games begin in May.

Girls Softball League Girls Softball League is for girls in grades 3rd - 9th. This league plays at Evergreen Hollow Park. The teams are formed by a draft system. No special requests. Games begin the middle of May.

Little League This league is for boys in 5th and 6th grades. The teams are formed by a draft system, so there are no special requests. Games begin the first week of May. Games are held on the Little League field at Community Park.

Prep League Prep league is for boys in 7th grade. The league plays at Evergreen Hollow Park and may travel to some close communities. Teams are formed by a draft system. No special requests. Games begin the middle of May.

Sign Up By March 1st We will accept registrations after the March 1st

date if there is room in the league.

Baseball/Softball Programs Fee $25 In District/$57 Out Of District

Girls Small Fry Small Fry League is an instructional league designed to teach girls in K-2nd grades the game of softball. This is a coach pitch league; no scores are kept. Games are played at Evergreen Hollow Park.

T-Ball League The game is the entry sport to baseball and softball for young players, ages 4 & 5. T-ball develops the primary baseball skills of hitting, running, fielding and throwing. Games will be held at Evergreen Hollow Park, Saturday mornings for 6 weeks.

Pony League The league will be for all 2nd grade boys. Coaches will be pitching over hand for all players.

Special Needs Baseball Program This program will provide the full benefit of little league participation in an athletic environment structured to the needs of the children with disabilities. Players either hit from a tee or swing at a pitched ball. A buddy system will be in place for all players. Individuals with a physical or mental disability who cannot safely or successfully participate in the traditional little league programs are eligible to participate

Summer Tennis Programs Tennis Lessons This program gives youngsters a chance to learn the basics of forehand, backhand, volleying and serving and always emphasizing sportsmanship. Little or no tennis experience required. Please pay instructor on the first day of class. Group Tennis Lessons

Camp Passes During the summer we will offer over 18 different camps for your child to choose to attend. The camp fee for one week of instruction and play is $10. The camp pass fee is $30 which allows your child to attend unlimited camps.

Survivor This will be a 5 day event held at evergreen park. Teams will be chosen on the first day, those registering together may stay as a team. The game will be played close to the television version but NO ONE will be voted out, points will be given for all challenges and the voting will be to remove points from a certain team. Adult Summer Programs

Women’s Tennis League All levels of play are needed to make this a quality program. Games are played at Hendelmeyer Park, Evergreen Hollow Park and Community Park. Leagues Offered: Doubles Tuesday Evenings April-August Doubles Monday Mornings June-August Singles scheduled at the convenience of the

Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League Games are played on the first diamond at Hendelmeyer Park. An organizational meeting will be held in April. Play is from May to August.

Men’s Fast Pitch League Games are played on the first diamond at Hendelmeyer Park. Play begins in April and runs through August. Contact park for more information.

Men’s Slow Pitch League This league plays on the third diamond at Hendelmeyer Park. Play begins in April and runs through August. An organizational meeting will be held in February. Tournaments are held during season. Watch newspaper for details. Contact the park for more information.

Ivan Hayes Over 35 Slow Pitch League This league plays on the second and third diamonds at Hendelmeyer Park on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Play begins the last week of April and runs through August. An organizational meeting will be held in February. Watch newspaper for details.

Co-ed Softball League Designed to promote fitness and fun. An 8 week season plus a single-elimination tournament at the end of the season. Season will run June - August. Please con-tact the office if you are interested in adding a new team.

Adult Yoga

Use yoga to achieve mental, physical and spiritual bal-ance. Yoga uses movement, breath, posture, relaxation and meditation in order to establish a healthy, vibrant and balanced approach to living. Yoga is distinctly differ-ent from other forms of exercise generating motion with-out causing strain and imbalances in the body. With proper practice, hatha yoga helps develop balance, strength and flexibility while having no negative effects on either the inner or outer body. Classes are held Monday evenings from 5:45 - 6:45 p.m.

Duplicate Bridge Club

Shuffle,  deal  and  have  fun  playing  the  world’s  greatest  card game. Put your skills to the test each Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. while meeting new and interesting people. All bridge players are welcome; please bring a partner. Cost is $3.00 an evening.

Thursday Night Bridge Beginner Level

Come and learn a new TRICK or two about the ultimate card game. Open to anyone who is willing to play in the spirit of casual fun and learning. You do not need to have a partner. The bridge instructor will match you up with a compatible player. Cost is $3.00 an evening.

Senior Citizens’ Nutrition Program

The C.E.F.S. Golden Circle Nutrition Program provides meals in a group setting to people 60 years old and older and their spouses. There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit. Participants pay what they can afford by placing their contributions in a confidential envelope. Funds to operate the program come from the Area Agencies on Aging and participant contributions. The program is sponsored by C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation. Call the nutrition site one day in advance by 12:30 p.m. 347-2851 to make reservations or for more information.

Zumba with Kelly

Dance away your cares and get fit while y having a great experience. Classes are from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Thursdays.

Water Aerobics Experience a low-impact exercise routine that tones your muscles and strengthens you heart. Our trained instructor will lead you through a fun routine to accomplish this. You do not need to know how to swim! M - W - F Ages 21 & Older 11:00 - Noon

Flag Football Players will learn fundamental skills such as passing, catching, running, blocking and defense; which will enable them to use those skills during the season. This non-contact league will help boys and girls in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades learn the game of football.

Soccer Leagues Soccer provides children of all ages an opportunity to stay fit, improve their motor skills, learn teamwork and have a great time.
