Local slimming expert shares secrets of success! To celebrate the start of 2012 a weight loss expert from Fleetwood is sharing the secrets of successful slimming to help people turn their New Year’s resolutions to lose weight into a healthy reality.

This January Slimming World has trawled its research to identify the recipe for successful – and sustainable – weight loss. The UK’s favourite slimming club surveyed the lifestyle habits of its most successful slimmers, the target members who have lost weight and kept it off for at least 12 months. It found most people had seven habits in common and dubbed them ‘the seven secrets of successful slimmers’.

Janet who runs Slimming World groups in Fleetwood, Thornton and Blackpool says: “By learning from other slimmers’ success, and perhaps where they’ve gone wrong with past New Year’s resolutions, people in the Fylde who want to slim down this January can give themselves the best possible chance of achieving their goal.

“Successful weight loss isn’t just about losing weight, it’s about keeping it off too.The key is to make healthy, realistic changes to your lifestyle that you can keep up for the rest of your life.”

“In our groups we give you all the tools and support to lose weight from day 1 just walk in the door”.

The Mount Racing Clubs flagship horse Lord Lansing made the long trek down to Lingfield again on Wednesday 23rd November and came within a whisker of landing the spoils. Despite being raised a hefty 6 pounds in weight and having to overcome the widest of draws in stall 13 the horse turned in a personal best to finish 2nd beaten only by a short head in a photo finish. Joint owner Andy Eaton who made the trip down to the Surrey venue said that ‘Lord Lansing has run a cracker, hes done everything right, tracked the pace and when asked pulled a couple of lengths clear of the third horse its just a shame something has come up and mugged him on the line’.After this run the handicapper reassessed him and put him up another 3 pounds but this didn’t stop him from finishing in the money again at Kempton Park on Thursday 8th December, where under a patient ride from Martin Harley he finished a very respectable 3rd. Considering this was another big step up in class Lord Lansing proved himself to be a tough and consistent horse and one that

pleased all connections involved. His next target will be on Saturday 7th January where he will line up in a race at Deauville in France.Like his fellow owner Geoff Holden, Andy Eaton believes that the decision to switch trainers to Karl Burkes has had a positive effect on the Mount Racing Club and he says that the horses are working and running a lot better and the planning and placing of them is a lot more ambitious. We expect to see the arrival of a new Yearling in the next couple of weeks and things are definitely looking up.

Fleetwood is a hive of activity, as we move into 2012. Works are almost complete at the Marine Hall Gardens, and scheduled to start at the Coastwatch tower at Rossall Point in early January. The plans to rebuild a modern observation tower are exciting and will create a multi-purpose building that’s also a feature on the coastline.

The new clinic on Dock Street is moving on apace, and will be completed in Spring, plus the completion of the new fire station, and a number of other big projects like the new council depot and the completion of the Nautical College due to come on stream which will both create jobs and add to the regeneration of the area.

Don’t forget it’s also the Queens Jubilee Year, and the Olympic Torch is coming to Fleetwood too, so 2012 will be an exciting year for everyone in the town.

We want to hear your thoughts and views and gossip – so why don’t you sign up for the Visit Fleetwood Facebook page and contribute your own opinion!

Plus, if you belong to a community group in Fleetwood please get in touch. We’re collecting information... and meanwhile we’ll publish your news through the existing websites.

‘Make a dream’ Facebook page originally ‘Stuarts make me a garden’ Facebook page was set up on 18th October 2011 (Stuart died aged 9, 6 years ago).

His mum and sister decided to sell all his toys to raise money for a memorial garden with a water feature in his memory. The page raised the money within 3 days and it was decided to keep it going.

Debbie Bagnall part of the Admin team at ‘Make a dream’ told us “Since October we have raised over £7678.31 (16/01/2012) for mostly local kids groups. It has astounded us all the generosity of people, as we rely on donated items to auction off. We are grateful for anything we can auction for the local kids.”

With the success of ‘Make a dream’ and having raised over the allowed limit for fund-raising already, they were looking for a local sponsor to cover the cost of becoming a registered charity. LINK-Magazine a Fleetwood based business, stepped in to donate the cost of setting up as the charity to help ‘Make a dream’ continue the fantastic work of raising much needed funds for local kids groups and other community projects.

If anyone wants to join the page on Facebook it is called ‘Make a dream page’ so you can bid on items for sale that end at 7pm every evening, with over 1500 members. You can donate by sending an email through inbox to any of the team; Jane Harwood, Jane Trott and Debbie Bagnall. The team due to the success have now taken on two more admins who have just joined them Melanie Woolford and Marc Green to deal with demand and are also looking at offering a local delivery service.

If you’re not on facebook but would still like to make a donation of an item/s that we can sell or for more information please contact Debbie on 01253 421061 or Jane 01253 422100

A very Happy New Year to everyone, from all of the Churches Together in Fleetwood.

Now all the festivities are over and 2012 has begun, we would like to keep you in the picture about any events and activities which are to take place in our Churches each month, and proffer an invitation to you all to come and join with us at any time. You will all be most welcome.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES IN FEBRUARYFriday 3 February – St. Paul’s Church Hall, Warren Avenue South – COFFEE MORNING & BOOK SALE – 10.00am to 12.00noon. Admission is free, so do come and browse through the books and enjoy a coffee too. You can arrive earlier for Bible reading and prayers led by Reverend Tountas, which starts at 9.45am.

Friday 3 February – Trinity Methodist Church, Fleetwood Road – COFFEE MORNING – 10.30am to 12.00noon. Everyone is very welcome. The Church will be open if you wish a period of quiet reflection.

Wednesday 15 February – United Reformed Church Hall, Dronsfield Road – COFFEE MORNING – 10.30am to 12.00noon. Entrance is 50p including refreshments. There will be a bookstall, a “bring & buy” stall, a raffle, and the New to You shop will be open, selling clothes, collectables and craft work. It really is an “Aladdin’s Cave. Do come and see for yourself.

Thursday 16 February – St. Nicholas Rooms, Broadway – COFFEE MORNING – 10.00am to 11.15am. Come and join in the good fellowship whilst enjoying a good brew.

Sunday 26 February – Trinity Methodist Church, Fleetwood Road – BREAKFAST AT TRINITY – 9.30am to 10.30am. An hour when 5 to 12 year olds can join in some tremendous activities, and have their breakfast too.

Sunday 26 February – St. David’s Hall, Larkholme Lane/Fleetwood Road – CAUSEWAY WORSHIP – from 3.00pm. A fabulous afternoon for people with difficulties to share in a period of fun & Christian Worship, specially designed for their needs, and in a safe environment. Extra helpers are urgently needed. If you would like to become involved please pop along and have a word with those in charge. It would be a tremendously rewarding experience.

DON’T FORGET - Every Tuesday and Friday – St. Peter’s Church, Lord Street – COFFEE MORNING – 9.30am to about 3.00pm. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere, and lots of chatter, and the toasted teacakes are scrumptious. Do come and see for yourself, when you’re down town at the market.

Every Tuesday – St. David’s Hall, Larkholme Lane/Fleetwood Road – BREAKING BREAD – 12.00noon. A fabulous meal in wonderful company, waited on by some of the young children from Flakefleet School, all for the very cheap price of £3.00. Not to be missed.

Every Wednesday – St. Wulstan’s Green Hut, Poulton Road – WEDNESDAY CLUB – 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Come and enjoy a good “cuppa” and pleasant company, and even play a game of bingo.

This year Easter falls early in April, so the period of Lent begins in February. As usual, the Churches To-gether in Fleetwood will be hosting Lent Lunches on every Friday during Lent. This consists of a very sim-ple meal of soup and a roll with a piece of cheese, together with a brew. Donations received will this year be sent to The Mercy Ship Project, which sends volunteer Doctors, Nurses and other professionals, around the world, to provide valuable, much needed, medical treatment to those in desperate need. These medical professionals give up their holidays in order to offer their services, so I think we should give gen-erously to support the work they do abroad, and to provide equipment for them to continue to do so.

Here are the dates and venues for this year’s lunches. I will repeat the information in the next issue, and will give details of Easter Services too.

Friday 24 February – St. Nicholas Rooms, Broadway – 11.45am to 1.15pm.

Friday 2 March – St. Peter’s Church, Lord Street – 11.45am to 1.15pm.

Friday 9 March – Emmanuel Church, Elm Street – 11.45am to 1.15pm.

Friday 16 March – St. David’s Hall, Larkholme Lane/Fleetwood Road – 11.45am to 1.15pm.

Friday 23 March – Trinity Baptist Church, Poulton Road – 11.45am to 1.15pm.

Friday 30 March – St. Paul’s Church Hall, Warren Avenue South – 11.45am to 1.15pm.

We look forward to seeing you at any or all of these lunches, and other events.

God Bless

Helicopter Crash Memorial On 1 February a new memorial will be unveiled on Fleetwood seafront, to remember the men who were killed in the Morecambe Bay helicopter crash.

On 27 December 2006, a helicopter was pick-ing up workers from the rig in Morecambe Bay when it crashed into the sea killing everyone on board. RNLI life boatmen from Fleetwood brought the bodies back to shore at Fleetwood, which is why Sandra Potton, wife of the pilot Steve Potton, chose the spot for the memorial.

Twelve months ago, Sandra approached Cllr Andrea Kay with the idea for the memorial that she had been thinking about for a while. Andrea has helped Sandra through a series of meetings which have been held with Wyre and Lancashire County Councils to sort out the details of where the monument should go and the details of its siting. Now, Sandra’s plans are about to come to fruition with the unveil-ing of the monument in this special service on Wednesday 1 February.

Sandra is meeting the not inconsiderable cost of the memorial herself. It’s a lectern style, dark grey granite plinth, etched with illustrations of a helicopter, gas rig and an RNLI boat, and poignantly, a forget-me-not flower. The names of the brave men who lost their lives in this disaster will be commemorated as a permanent reminder for generations to come.

(source www.visitcleveleys.co.uk)

Pictured Cllr Andrea Kay & Sanra Potton The service will take place at 3pm, and Sandra will perform the unveiling of the memorial. The Mayor of Wyre will be in attendance, along with the Head Boys and Girls from Fleetwood High, Cardinal Allen and Rossall Schools, and a short dedication service will be performed by Rev Michael Payne.

The service is being held after the anniversary of the tragedy so that Steve’s son can be there after making the journey from Canada, along with the wives and families of the other lost men – which would have been difficult to arrange on the exact anniversary of the crash, which is so near to Christmas.

The memorial, sited just at the left of the RNLI station on Fleetwood sea front, will join a number of other tributes on the Wyre coastline which mark the tragic loss of life through the generations to the power of the Irish Sea off our shore.

Mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper, Enzo, has cheated him out of 10 million bucks. His bookkeeper is deaf. That was the reason he got the job in the first place. It was assumed that Enzo would hear nothing that he might have to testify about in court. When the Godfather goes to confront Enzo about his missing $10 million, he takes along his lawyer who knows sign language.

The Godfather tells the lawyer, “Ask him where the 10 million bucks is that he embezzled from me.”

The lawyer, using sign language, asks Enzo where the money is.

Enzo signs back, “I don’t know what you are talk-ing about.”

The lawyer tells the Godfather, “He says he doe isn’t know what you are talking about.”

The Godfather pulls out a pistol, puts it to Enzo’s temple and says, “Ask him again!”

The lawyer signs to Enzo, “He’ll kill you if you don’t tell him.”

Enzo signs back, “OK. You win! The money is in a brown briefcase, buried behind the shed in my cousin Bruno’s backyard in Woodbridge !”

The Godfather asks the lawyer, “What did he say?”

The lawyer replies, “ He says you don’t have the balls to pull the trigger.”

Don’t you just LOVE lawyers?!............................................................................., I pass on only the best!

At a wine merchants, the regular taster died and the director advertised for a new one to hire.

A drunkard with a ragged dirty look came to apply for the position. The director of the warehouse wondered how to send him away. They gave him a glass to drink.

He tried it and said, “It’s a Muscat , three years old, grown on a north slope, matured in steel containers. Low grade but acceptable”.

“That’s correct”, said the boss.

Another glass.... “It’s a cabernet, eight years old, a south-western slope, oak barrels, matured at 8 degrees. Requires three more years for finestresults.” “Correct.”

A third glass...’’It’s a pinot blanc champagne, high grade and exclusive’’calmly said the drunk.

The director was astonished. He winked at his secretary to suggest something. She left the room, and came back in with a glass of urine. The alcoholic tried it.

“It’s a blonde, 26 years old, three months pregnant and if you don’t give me the bloody job, I’ll name the father.” He got it!............................................................................... An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road. - A cop pulls him over.

“ So,” says the cop to the driver, where have ya been?”

“Why, I’ve been to the pub of course,” slurs the drunk.

“ Well,” says the cop, “it looks like you’ve had quite a few to drink this evening.”

“ I did all right,” the drunk says with a smile.

“Did you know,” says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across his chest, that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?”

“Oh, thank heavens,” sighs the drunk. “For a minute there, I thought I’d gone deaf.” ................................................................................ A drunk staggers into a Catholic Church, entersa confessional booth, sits down, but says nothing.

The Priest coughs a few times to get his attentionbut the drunk continues to sit there.

Finally, the Priest pounds three times on the wall.

The drunk mumbles, “ain’t no use knockin, there’s no paper on this side either!” Keep sending...

eatFY7 BeatHello

Happy New Year to you all. 2012 is marching on and I am already looking at our Policing plans for the events that lie ahead in Spring and Summer!! 2011 saw some challenging times in relation to policing as im no doubt you will have seen on the national media. Lancashire Constabulary has carried out an unprecedented number of organisational reviews in order to lower the costs of policing whilst carefully balancing this against any effect this would have on frontline policing and reducing or removing that threat altogether.

As I write in numerous articles every month, you can help us by helping yourselves not become a victim of crime by taking basic steps to securing your property, reporting anything suspicious to us immediately, looking out for your neighbours and so on. Beyond crime prevention there are other aspects that you can also help with, again these are as simple

as knowing what your children are up to, where and with whom. Your neighbourhood team are committed to keeping the streets safe for everyone’s use, no-one should suffer any form of anti-social behaviour (asb), and if they do – we need to know about it. ASB makes people’s lives a misery, we won’t tolerate it and neither should you – report it. We will take a firm stance in order to prosecute and educate anyone found committing anti-social behaviour. ASB occurs in many forms and we will deal with the problem speedily and proportionately, utilising our colleagues from other agencies to prevent the same issues re-occuring.

PC Ian Lester organised a drawing competition within the Fleetwood primary schools in December – many entries were submitted. The theme was aimed at ‘securing your pedal cycles’ and ‘be safe – be seen’ during the dark winter nights. The winners are soon to be announced and will receive their brand new bikes and safety gear - winners in next issue!

Finally, if you have any information or concerns, you can contact us at your PACT meetings, by phone on 01253 876611, via our Lancashire Constabulary website or if you prefer to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

All ward areas now have a single PACT meeting, just prior to the Fleetwood Town Council meeting at The North Euston Hotel, on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm until 6:45pm. This is a ‘drop in’ event and your local Neighbourhood team will be available to discuss with you personally any issues you may have. Feel free to call in and see us.

Thankyou PS Dan Whitaker
