Congratulations Juanita of 5/6 W. Juanita has been selected to receive an
Education Grant through the Country Women’s Association.
The Grant will be presented at Brunswick Heads on 28th November.
This grant will go towards Juanita’s school education.
We are very excited for Juanita and feel she is a very worthy recipient.
On Tuesday the 19th of November the boys of
years 5 and 6 were taught how to change a car
tyre and check its oil as part of the boys and
girls program. Three cars were driven under the
cola and looked at by the boys. I was in Mr
Davies group and he let us help him jack up the
car, take the wheel off and check the oil levels.
It was so much fun. By Reagan F

Kinder Orientation
Thank you to the staff and volunteers involved with the Kindergarten Orientation over the last four weeks. The sessions
were well attended and our Kindergarten students for 2014 are definitely ready to commence big school.
Broad Brimmed Hats
The P&C endorses the school’s no hat – no play policy. The Northern Rivers area has one of the highest levels of skin
cancer in the world and it is crucial that children are protected from the sun. Many of our students have been wearing caps
to school which are ineffective in protecting the ears and neck. In 2014, we will be enforcing the ‘no hat no play policy’ and
children will be required to wear broad-brimmed hats. P&C has quality micro-fibre hats available for $10 from the uniform
shop in the canteen. These will be compulsory from the commencement of next year.
P&C
Gaynor Palmer has resigned as secretary of the P&C due to demands on her time. I thank Gaynor for her work in this role
throughout 2013. Tammie Moss has taken on the secretary’s role.
Also, P&C raised in excess of $300 from the portraits which were taken at the school last Sunday. Thank you to the
organisers.
KidsMatter Surveys
Mrs Clark surveyed 30 parents last week as part of the school’s KidsMatter initiative. She has collated some valuable
information on how the school is meeting the needs of our children. I thank those parents who participated. The data will
be used for future planning. Any parents who would like to participate in the survey but were not contacted are invited to
contact the school.
Canteen
It has come to the attention of staff that some children have been purchasing food or drinks for other children. We have
students with allergies and intolerance to certain foods and it is important that children do not buy food for or share food
with others. Teachers will reinforce this message at school and I ask parents to do the same at home.
Storm Safety
Last week we had a number storms. One coincided with the end of the school day. Children who normally walk home
should not do so in a thunder storm. They will be required to stay at school until the storm passes or they are picked up by
a parent/carer.
Videoconferences
This week children in stage 2 and 3 have had the opportunity to join in a range of video-conferences during lunchtime in
the school’s connected classroom. They have been able to converse with experts discussing topics like film and
photography, insects, animals and robots. This has provided a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from experts
without having to leave the school.
Stage 3 Girls and Boys Program
Next Monday the boys and girls will enjoy their final sessions of the Boys and Girls program. Dads/male carers and the
boys are invited to a barbecue here at the school on Monday evening.
The girls night out will be held at the YWCA on Rous Road Goonellabah. The girls need to return their purple note to
secure their spot for dinner.

Kadina High School 2014 Orientation
Kadina High School’s Orientation Days are on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th of November.
Students will have two days of learning experiences, fun and activities.
Please note:
· Students are to meet at the flag pole at the front of the school at 9.10am where they will be met by their Year Adviser (Mr
Flanagan) and by their Peer Support Leaders. They can be picked up from the same point at 3pm.
· Students should wear their current school uniform.
· Please bring a pencil case and some paper.
· We will be hosting a BBQ on Thursday night (5 pm at the BBQ Area) for all parents… this is a great opportunity for
parents, carers and teachers to meet and to get to know each other… the students are all welcome as well!
Lolly Guessing Competition
There are nine lolly jars to guess from. The small jars are 10c per guess, the medium jars are 20c and the large tubs will
cost 50c per guess. How many lollies are in each jar? Students from 2/3H will be outside the canteen each morning to take
your guess.
Lismore Basketball Import
Jay Washington has been imported from America to play Basketball with Lismore Storm
during the 2014 State League season. Jay took some time out to offer his expertise in
developing young basketball players from our region.
Students in 1 / 2 LG using “bubble.us” to brainstorm their ideas about how we
communicate.
Bubble.us is one of the many thinking tools available when using computer technology.
We used our white thinking hats to gather information.
Our green thinking hats were used to think of new ideas and our black and yellow thinking hats to discuss weaknesses
and strengths in using modern technology for communicating in today’s society.
