ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Power tool plugs must matchthe outlet. Never modify theplug in any way. Do not useany adapter plugs with earthed(grounded) power tools. Unmodifiedplugs and matching outlets will reducerisk of electric shock.

Avoid body

contact with earthed or grounded sur-faces, such as pipes, radiators, rangesand refrigerators. There is an increasedrisk of electric shock if your body isearthed or grounded.

Do not expose

power tools to rain or wet conditions.Water entering a power tool willincrease the risk of electric shock.

Do notabuse

the cord. Never use the cord for carry-ing, pulling or unplugging the powertool. Keep cord away from heat, oil,

sharp edges or moving parts. Damagedor entangled cords increase the risk ofelectric shock.

When operat-

ing a power tool outdoors, use anextension cord suitable for outdooruse. Use of a cord suitable for outdooruse reduces the risk of electric shock.

If operat-ing a

power tool in a damp location isunavoidable, use a residual currentdevice (GFCI) protected supply. Use of aGFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.

Double insulated tools are equipped witha polarized plug (one plug blade is widerthat the other). This plug will fit in apolarized outlet only one way. If the plugdoes not fit fully into the outlet, turn theplug over and insert into plug again.1. Make sure cord is located so that it

will not be stepped on, tripped over,or otherwise subjected to damage orstress.

2. Do not use an extension cord unlessabsolutely necessary. Use of improperextension cord could result in a risk offire and electric shock. If an extensioncord must be used, make sure:

PERSONAL SAFETYStayalert,

Use personal protectiveequipment. Always wear eyeprotection. Protective equip-ment such as dust mask, non-skid safe-ty shoes, hard hat, or hearing protec-tion used for appropriate conditionswill reduce personal injuries.

Prevent

uninten-tional starting. Ensure the switch is inthe off-position before connecting topower source and/or battery pack, pick-ing up or carrying the tool. Carryingpower tools with your finger on theswitch or energising power tools thathave the switch on invites accidents.

Remove any

adjusting key or wrench before turningthe power tool on. A wrench or a keyleft attached to a rotating part of thepower tool may result in personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep prop-er footing and balance at alltimes. This enables better con-trol of the power tool in unexpected sit-uations.

Dressproperly.

Do not wear loose clothing or jew-ellery. Keep your hair, clothing andgloves away from moving parts. Looseclothes, jewellery or long hair can becaught in moving parts.

If devicesare pro-

vided for the connection of dustextraction and collection facilities,ensure these are connected and proper-ly used. Use of dust collection canreduce dust-related hazards.

1. Hold power tool by insulated grippingsurfaces when performing an operationwhere the cutting tool may contacthidden wiring or its own cord. Contactwith a “live” wire will make exposedmetal parts of the tool “live” and shockthe operator.

2. Use clamps or another practical wayto secure and support the workpieceto a stable platform. Holding thework by hand or against your bodyleaves it unstable and may lead toloss of control.

Do notmisuse

this product. Excessive exposure tovibration, work in awkward positions,and repetitive work motions can causeinjury to hands and arms. Stop using anytool if discomfort, numbness, tingling, orpain occur, and consult a physician.3. Always work in a well-

ventilated area. Wear anOSHA-approved dust maskand safety glasses.

4. Keep hands away from moving parts.5. Always use blades of the correct

size and shape mounting holes.Blades that do not match themounting hardware of the saw willincrease risk of injury to the userand damage to the tool.

RECORTES/ CORTE DEL AGUJEROLos recortes se pueden hacer de dosmodos:1. Haciendo un orificio inicial:

Para los cortes internos sin un cortede entrada desde el borde, haga unorificio inicial de 12 mm (1/2") o másde diámetro con un taladro.Introduzca la hoja en este orificioy comience a cortar.

2. Corte por penetración:

El corte por penetración es útil y ahorratiempo cuando se hacen aberturastoscas en materiales blandos.No intente cortar por penetraciónmateriales duros tales como el acero.CORTES POR PENETRACIÓN1. Si el corte en bolsillo es de líneas

rectas, no se necesita un orificiopretaladrado.

2. Incline la herramienta hacia adelantesobre el borde delantero de la basecon la hoja ubicada apenas encima dela superficie de la pieza (Figura 3).

3. Aplique presión sobre la herramientade modo que el borde delantero dela base no se mueva cuandoencienda la herramienta ysuavemente baje la parte trasera dela herramienta con lentitud.

7. Wear ear protection when using thetool for extended periods. Prolongedexposure to high intensity noise cancause hearing loss.

8. Make sure that all nails have beenpulled from workpiece before startingcutting operation.

9. This saw is not designed to cut hollowpipe. Perform cuts on approvedmaterials only.

10.Do not touch metal parts of saw whilecutting in blind areas. Blind spots likewalls and floors may contain liveelectric wires.

11.Do not touch metal parts of saw orblade immediately after use. Parts willbe hot and can cause serious burn.

POWER TOOL USE AND CARE

Do notforce the

power tool. Use the correct power toolfor your application. The correct powertool will do the job better and safer atthe rate for which it was designed.

Do notuse the

power tool if the switch does not turnit on and off. Any power tool that can-not be controlled with the switch isdangerous and must be repaired.

Disconnect the plug from the powersource and/or the battery pack fromthe power tool before making anyadjustments, changing accessories, orstoring power tools. Such preventivesafety measures reduce the risk ofstarting the power tool accidentally.

Store idle power tools out of the reachof children and do not allow personsunfamiliar with the power tool orthese instructions to operate thepower tool. Power tools are dangerousin the hands of untrained users.

Maintainpower

tools. Check for misalignment or bind-ing of moving parts, breakage of partsand any other condition that may affectthe power tool’s operation. If damaged,have the power tool repaired beforeuse. Many accidents are caused by poor-ly maintained power tools.

Keep

cuttingtools sharp and clean. Properly main-tained cutting tools with sharp cuttingedges are less likely to bind and areeasier to control.

Use thepower

tool, accessories and tool bits etc. inaccordance with these instructions,taking into account the working condi-tions and the work to be performed.Use of the power tool for operationsdifferent from those intended couldresult in a hazardous situation.

1. This tool must NOT be modified orused for any application other thanthat for which it was designed.

2. Some wood contains preservativeswhich can be toxic. Take extra careto prevent inhalation and skincontact when working with thesematerials. Request and follow allsafety information available fromyour material supplier.

3. Store tools out of reach of childrenand other untrained persons. Toolsare dangerous in the hands ofuntrained users.

4. Avoid cutting nails. Inspectworkpiece for any nails and removethem before operation.

5. Do not cut hollow pipe.6. Do not cut oversize workpiece.7. Check for the proper clearance

beyond the workpiece beforecutting so that the blade will notstrike the floor, workbench, etc.

8. Make sure the blade is notcontacting the workpiece beforethe switch is turned on.

9. Keep hands away from moving parts.10.Do not leave the tool running. Operate

the tool only when hand-held.11.Always switch off and wait for the

blade to come to a complete stopbefore removing the blade from theworkpiece.

12.Do not touch the blade or theworkpiece immediately afteroperation; they may be extremelyhot and could burn your skin.

CAUSES AND USER PREVENTIONOF KICKBACK:Kickback is a sudden reaction to apinched, bound or misaligned sawblade, causing an uncontrolled saw tolift up and out of the workpiecetoward the operator.When the blade is pinched or boundtightly by the kerf, or cutting slot,closing down, the blade stalls and themotor reaction drives the unit rapidlyback toward the operator.

If the blade becomes twisted ormisaligned in the cut, the teeth at theback edge of the blade can dig intothe top surface of the wood causingthe blade to climb out of the kerf andjump back toward operator.Kickback is the result of tool misuseand/ or incorrect operating proceduresor conditions and can be avoided bytaking proper precautions as givenbelow:1. Maintain a firm grip with both

hands on the saw and position yourbody and arm to allow you to resistkickback forces. Kickback forces canbe controlled by the operator, ifproper precautions are taken.

2. When blade is binding, or wheninterrupting a cut for any reason,release the trigger and hold the sawmotionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop.Never attempt to remove the sawfrom the work or pull the sawbackward while the blade is inmotion or kickback may occur.Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause ofblade binding.

3. When restarting a saw in theworkpiece, center the saw blade inthe kerf, or cut, and check that sawteeth are not engaged into thematerial. If saw blade is binding, itmay walk up or kickback from theworkpiece as the saw is restarted.

4. Support large panels to minimizethe risk of blade pinching andkickback. Large panels tend to sagunder their own weight. Supportsmust be placed under the panel onboth sides, near the line of cut andnear the edge of the panel.

5. Do not use dull or damaged blades.Unsharpened or improperly setblades produce narrow kerf causingexcessive friction, blade binding andkickback.

6. Blade depth and bevel adjustinglocking levers must be tight andsecure before making cut. If bladeadjustment shifts while cutting, itmay cause binding and kickback.

7. Use extra caution when making a“Pocket Cut” into existing walls orother blind areas. The protrudingblade may cut objects that cancause kickback.

8. Be cautious of pitchy, knotty, wet orwarped stock. These are most likelyto create pinching conditions andpossible kickback.

3. Tighten the bolt clockwise to securethe blade.

4. Loosen the base adjustment bolts.Slide the blade support bearing

forward so that the blade is riding inthe groove. Retighten the baseadjustment bolts. Check thisadjustment when ever the blade ischanged or the base is adjusted.Testsaw in a safe direction, away fromothers, before beginning use withnew blade.

To remove the blade, follow theinstallation procedure in reverse.

Occasionally lubricate the roller.

GENERAL OPERATION• Before cutting, make sure the space

• Measure all cuts to be made and makesure they are marked clearly.

• If both hands are holding the saw,they cannot be cut by the blade.Hold the saw firmly to prevent loss ofcontrol. NEVER place your handahead of the saw blade since the sawcould jump forward over your hand.

• Do not reach underneath the work.Do not attempt to remove cut materialwhen blade is moving.

• Turn the tool on without the blademaking any contact and wait untilthe blade attains full speed. Then restthe base flat on the workpiece andgently move the tool forward alongthe previously marked cutting line.

• When following curves, cut slowly sothe blade can cut through cross grain.This will give you an accurate cut andwill prevent the blade from wandering.

• When cut is completed, allow saw tocome to a complete stop beforeremoving from work material.

El CONTRAGOLPE es el resultado de unmal uso de la herramienta y/o deprocedimientos o condiciones defuncionamiento incorrectos y puedeevitarse tomando las precaucionesnecesarias que se proporcionana continuación:1. Sostenga la sierra con firmeza con

las dos manos y posicione su cuerpoy brazo de un modo que le permitaresistir las fuerzas de CONTRAGOLPE.El operador puede controlar lasfuerzas de CONTRAGOLPE si tomalas precauciones necesarias.

2. CUTTING WITH A STRAIGHTEDGEAlways use a rough cut blade whenpossible. Clamp a straightedge on thework parallel to the line of cut andflush with the side of the saw base.Either first mark the line of cut andthen position the straightedge paralleland at the same distance as betweenthe blade and the side edge of the baseor first mark the side edge of the baseand then clamp the straightedge on themark and parallel to the cut line.As you cut, keep the saw base edgeflush against the straightedge and flaton the workpiece.• If using a fence or guide, make sure it

is securely fastened and complies withmanufacturer’s instructions.

LOCK ON/OFF SWITCHPressing the ON/OFF switch and usingthe “lock” button, the jig saw can beused continually. The lock button canbe unlocked immediately by simplypressing the on/ off button again.

CUTTING PANELS AND BOARDSLarge panels and long boards sag orbend if they are not correctly supported.If you attempt to cut without levelingand properly supporting the workpiece,the blade will tend to bind, causingkickback. Support large panels. Be sureto set the depth of the cut so that youonly cut through the workpiece, notthrough the supports.• Always clamp the work piece securely

on a saw horse or bench.• Always hold the base flush with the

workpiece. Failure to do so may causeblade breakage, resulting in a seriousinjury. Advance the tool very slowlywhen cutting curves or scrolling.Forcing the tool may cause a slantedcutting surface and blade breakage.

• NEVER hold piece being cut in yourhands or across your leg. It isimportant to support the workproperly to minimize body exposure,blade binding, or loss of control.

TYPES OF CUTTINGStraight Cuts

Without the use of a rip-fence orguide, a straight cut can very easily bemade. Clamp a straight edge or even apiece of wood to the workpiece andguide the edge of the saw against it.Complete the cut in one direction only.

RIP-CUTTINGRipping is cutting length wise withthe grain. Select the proper blade

for your job. Use a rip fence for rips4" wide or less.

CROSS-CUTTINGCross-cutting is cutting across thegrain. Select the proper blade foryour job. Advance the saw slowly toavoid splintering the wood.BEVEL/ ANGLE CUTTING

Always be sure that

the tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore tilting the base.

• With the base tilted, you can makebevel cuts at any angle between 0°and 45° (left or right).

• Loosen the bolts on the underside ofthe tool with an allen wrench.

• Tilt the base until the desired angle isobtained. The edge of the motorhousing indicates the base angle bygraduations stamped on the base.

• Tighten the 2 bolts to secure thebase.

Cutouts (Hole/ Pocket Cutting)Pocket cuts are made in the middle ofthe workpiece when it cannot be cutfrom an edge. They can be made oneof two ways:.

1. Boring a starting hole:For internal cutouts without a lead-incut from an edge, pre-drill a startinghole 12 mm (1/2") or more in diameter.Insert the blade into this hole to startyour cut.

2. Plunge cutting:Plunge cutting is useful and time-saving in making rough openings insofter materials. Plunge cutting is notrecommended for harder materialslike steel and scroll blades shouldnot be used for plunging.PLUNGE CUTS

1. If the pocket cut is straight-lined, apre-drilled hole is not necessary.

2. Tilt the tool up on the front edge ofthe base with the blade pointpositioned just above the workpiecesurface (see Figure 3).

3. Apply pressure to the tool so that thefront edge of the base will not movewhen you switch on the tool and gentlylower the back end of the tool slowly.

4. Once the saw reaches maximumspeed, lower it slowly into theworkpiece.

5. As the blade pierces the workpiece,slowly lower the base of the tooldown onto the workpiece surface.

6. Keep both hands on the saw whilecutting.

7. Complete the cut in the normalmanner.

8. For 90° or other sharp corners, cut upto the corner then back out beforerounding the corner off. Once openingthe pocket, approach the corner fromthe opposite direction to square it off.

CIRCLE CUTSA circle cutting guide can help assist inthe sawing of circles. The cut should beprepared by a pre-drilled hole or aslight plunge cut near the cutting line.If using a guide, make sure it complieswith the jig saw and theManufacturer’s instructions.

Scroll CuttingIntricate work can be performed by a jigsaw using a scrolling blade. Make surethat the blade being used according tothe manufacture’s instructions. Metal Cutting• When cutting metal workpieces,

clamp the material down and sawclose to the clamping point to reducebending and vibration.

• If the blade begins to vibrate orchatter excessively, replace blade witha metal cutting blade with finer teeth.

• For soft metals the blade can becomeclogged so use a blade with coarserteeth.

• Conduit, angle iron, or pipe shouldbe clamped in a vice and cut as closeto the clamp as possible

• Thin sheet metals should be“sandwiched” between or laid on top oftougher wood boards, like plywood,and the design or layout set on top. Thisallows the metal to be cut smoothly andprevents tearing on the metal material.

• The exposed portion of the saw barmust be kept clean. Wipe metal chipsaway frequently by using an oily cloth.After use, dispose of oily clothappropriately, to prevent fire hazards.

• Do not twist, bend, or force the blade.If the saw jumps or bounces, use ablade with finer teeth. If the bladeseems clogged when cutting soft metal,use a blade with coarser teeth.

• For easier cutting, lubricate the bladewith a stick of cutting wax, if available,or cutting oil when cutting steel. Thinmetal should be sandwiched betweentwo pieces of wood or tightly clampedon a single piece of wood (wood ontop of the metal).

• Draw the cut lines or design on thetop piece of wood. When cuttingaluminum extrusion or angle iron,clamp the work in a bench vise andsaw close to the vise jaws.

• When sawing tubing that has adiameter larger than the blade isdeep, cut through the wall of thetubing and then insert the blade intothe cut rotating the tube as you saw.

SAWING LAMINATESAs the saw blade cuts on the upwardstroke, splintering may occur on thesurface closest to the shoe plate.1. Use a fine-tooth saw blade.2. Saw from the back surface of the

workpiece (finished side down).

3. To minimize splintering, clamp apiece of scrap wood or hardboard toboth sides of the workpiece and sawthrough this sandwich.

FINISHING EDGESTo trim edges or make dimensionaladjustments, run the blade lightlyalong the cut edges.

BASE ADJUSTMENTAlways be sure that the tool is switched off.Unplug tool. The base can be adjusted upto 45° by loosening the base adjustmentbolts on the underside of the saw (Figure 4).Align to the desired angle oncalibrated quadrant. Then tighten baseadjustment bolts (2). Because of theincreased amount of bladeengagement in the work anddecreased stability of the base, bladebinding may occur.Keep the saw steady and the basefirmly on the workpiece.

DUST EXTRACTIONClean cutting operations can beperformed by connecting this tool to avacuum cleaner. Insert the hose of thevacuum cleaner into the hole at therear of the tool.

Utiliser des collecteurs de poussièrepeut réduire les risques dus auxpoussières.

1. Tenir l’outil par une surface de priseisolée en effectuant le travail lorsquel’outil pourrait entrer en contact avecun câblage caché. Un contact avec unfil « sous tension » rendra les piècesde métal exposées de l’outil « soustension » et produira un choc pourl’opérateur.

2. Utiliser des pinces ou tout autremoyen pratique pour fixer le travail àune plate-forme stable. Ne jamaistenir le travail dans les mains, sur lesgenoux ou contre toutes parties ducorps en coupant.
