Each year it is estimated that feral hogs do more than $500 million dollars in damage to land across the state of Texas. Efforts such as these offer a great opportunity for Texans to band together to protect our property from feral hogs and the immense amount of damage they cause. Beginning October 1, 2016 through May 31, 2017(or until funds are depleted) Washington County will offer a $5/hog bounty on killed hogs only; no bounty will be paid on hog sold to a buying station during this time. Hogs must be taken from property within Washington County by a Washington County resident or landowner and anyone wishing to participate must submit ears, complete the required forms, and have them notarized within the bounty contest rules and timeframe. Both ears, connected by scalp, (no individual ears will be accepted) may be turned in the FIRST Friday of each month at the Washington County Fairgrounds Rabbit Barn located at 1305 E Blue Bell Road, Brenham, Texas. Turn in times will be from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm on each of the respective Fridays and will include June 2, 2017 as the final turn in day for the bounty and contest. Participants who submit ears as part of the bounty will be eligible for the feral hog bounty contest which will award prizes to the top five individuals who turn in the most number of ears during the 8 month period. Completed forms with the required information and signatures will be left at the Washington County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office after notarizing. The individual submitting the form will be provided a copy and the original will be retained and submitted to the Washington County Treasures Office to be processed for payment of the bounty. At the conclusion of the bounty contest a Feral Hog Management Seminar will be hosted on June 16, 2017 at the Washington County Fairgrounds Sales Facility. The event will offer 5 continuing education units (CEUs; Pending TDA Approval) for all pesticide applicators who are in attendance through the entire program. Registration will begin at 8:30 am, the program will follow at 9:00 am, a lunch will be served, and at the conclusion of the program winners of the feral hog bounty contest will be recognized. A registration fee of $20/person for pre-registration on or before June 9th or $30/person at the door will be assessed to anyone wishing to attend. Winners of the contest will be recognized and will receive a certificate and cash prizes in the following amounts: 1st Place - $1,250.00, 2nd Place - $1,000.00, 3rd Place - $750.00, 4th Place - $500.00, and 5th Place $250.00. January 20, 2017 Dear New Landowner, On behalf of the agricultural community of Washington County, we would like to welcome you to our slice of heaven. Our community is pleased to have you, and look forward to a prosperous relationship. We would like to formally invite you to participate in a tremendous educational event, the Multi-County New Landowner Program, specifically designed to help guide you in your new endeavor(s). The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington Counties have developed a series of educational programs to assist new landowners with the concept of agriculture production and rural living. The Multi-County New Landowner Program is designed with you in mind, providing opportunities to hear from leading experts and successful producers in the field of agriculture on what it takes to start, manage, and maintain your own agricultural enterprise and effectively manage your natural resources. You will hear from AgriLife Extension Specialists, County Extension Agents, and others on concepts related to Wildlife Management, Pond Management, Forage Production, Weed & Brush Control, Horticulture Production, Honey Bees, Livestock Production, Rural Laws and Codes, and much more. Networking is another great opportunity provided through this program series; bringing landowners from the four-county-area together to talk about plans, successes, and challenges in an effort to help one another. Please take a minute to read through the enclosed brochure that details the Multi-County New Landowner Program objectives and the course outline for this year. If you are interested, please fill out the registration information, attach your check, and return it to the address listed on the brochure. If you have any questions, or would like to visit more about the program, please feel free to give me a call any time. The 3,500+ new landowners that have completed the course over the past 10 years have given the program very high marks. Knowledge gained through this series has assisted past participants with implementing best management practices to improve production, manage natural resources, and increase property values. I hope you will take the opportunity to join us, and share in the educational programs that are part of this great series. My fellow county extension agents and I look forward to seeing you at the introductory class on February 17, 2017 at the Fayette County Extension Office at 255 Svoboda Ln., LaGrange, Texas. Washington County Feral Hog Bounty, Contest, and Seminar Bounty and Contest – October 1, 2016 - May 31, 2017 Feral Hog Educational Seminar – June 16, 2017 In May of 2016 Washington County participated in the Texas Department of Agriculture’s County Hog Out Management Program and successfully qualified for grant funding to offer an additional bounty, contest, and educational program. For more information please contact Commissioner Luther Hueske at [email protected] or by phone at (979) 277-6200. To pick up forms please visit the Washington County Extension Office or the Washington County Court House. Forms can also be found online at http://washington.agrilife.org/ or http://www.co.washington.tx.us/

total dissolved solids (TDS) and E. coli bacteria for $10. Pick up approved sample
containers with instructions at the Washington or Austin County Texas A&M AgriLife
Extension offices.
Bring your samples and payment of $10 to the training on April 28th.
Lunch will be provide by the Washington County Soil & Water Conservation District.
