New and experienced Local Happenings E EVENTS: Page 13 Local Band Releases First CD Kasia Metkowski An Alameda band Don’t Be the Hero recently celebrated the release of its first CD, which the band recorded at the Redhouse in Walnut Creek. Don’t Be the Hero played with four other bands and set itself apart by following their mantra of making the show all about the audi- ence. Band members Chaz Miranda, Troy Wise and Patrick Brown strove to make their performance as fun and engaging as possible, while encouraging participation from the audience — even allowing some of them to sing into the microphone during a Blink 182 cover. “We had everyone dancing, swaying and having a good time,” Miranda said. The punk-pop CD has a general- ly upbeat style, including the tracks “The Chase,” “Boys Night Out,” “Bigfoot” and “Misadventures.” The band has come a long way since it was formed in June 2011. Originally named Fear the Escalator, Don’t Be the Hero has dealt with both name and member changes. The band members recently announced that the trio will become a quartet. They are keeping the name of the bassist under wraps. All the members have roots in Alameda; guitarist/singer Miranda graduated from Bay Area School of Enterprise while drummer Brown and bassist/singer Wise both gradu- ated from Alameda High School. Don’t be the Hero continues to face the challenge most local artists deal with: getting people to come to their shows. The bandmembers plan to write and record more songs with their eyes on going on their first tour. To find out more about the band, check out its Facebook page or visit www.reverbnation.com. The band will be playing at the Redhouse on Friday, Dec. 21. The Redhouse is located at 1667 Botelho Drive in Walnut Creek. Call (925) 938-6900 to learn more. Local Band Releases First CD

Kasia MetkowskiAn Alameda band Don’t Be the

Hero recently celebrated the release of its first CD, which the band recorded at the Redhouse in Walnut Creek. Don’t Be the Hero played with four other bands and set itself apart by following their mantra of making the show all about the audi-ence.

The punk-pop CD has a general-ly upbeat style, including the tracks “The Chase,” “Boys Night Out,” “Bigfoot” and “Misadventures.” The band has come a long way since it was formed in June 2011. Originally named Fear the Escalator, Don’t Be the Hero has dealt with both name and member changes. The band members recently announced that the trio will become a quartet. They are keeping the name of the bassist under wraps.

All the members have roots in Alameda; guitarist/singer Miranda graduated from Bay Area School of Enterprise while drummer Brown and bassist/singer Wise both gradu-ated from Alameda High School.
