Internship Program Overview
Loch Lloyd Country Club offers many opportunities for the serious Golf Course and Turf Management student. Our internship
program will offer successful candidates a unique glimpse of one of the premier golf facilities in the Midwest. We cater to an exclusive
membership and strive to provide the best possible conditions daily. Time spent at our facility will expose the intern to the many
operations that are associated with an upscale, championship golf community.
Mission Statement The Golf Course Maintenance team at Loch Lloyd Country Club is
committed to delivering world class conditions during an uncertain golf economy through the commitment to diligence, professionalism, pro-
action, and excellence. With first class amenities and a world championship caliber golf course, it is an incumbent motivation to provide
to our members and their guests only the finest of playing surfaces. Upholding the integrity of the property with respect to the environment
further solidifies Loch Lloyd Country Club as one of the finest in the United States.
Tom Watson Signature Design Course
Located twenty miles south of Kansas City and four miles from Overland Park, Kansas, Loch Lloyd Country Club is a private, Tom
Watson Signature Design eighteen hole golf course. Also there is an additional nine holes of golf; The Sechrest Nine which opened
for play in 1990. The north nine; holes six through fourteen was constructed by Medalist Golf and opened for play in July of 2010.
The middle nine; holes one through five and fifteen through eighteen was recently renovated by Landscapes Unlimited and opened
for play in June of 2012.
Equally the north nine and the middle nine were designed by Tom Watson as one of his Signature Design courses and his Chief
Engineer Robert Gibbons supervised both the construction on the north nine and the renovation on the middle nine. As of June
2012 we now have a complete eighteen hole Tom Watson Signature Design championship golf course. Found below is a bullet
point list of characteristics of the Tom Watson Signature Design.

Sechrest Nine
The Sechrest Nine was designed by Donald Sechrest and opened in 1990. Due to the lack of water this summer from the drought
that the Midwest recently went through we were unable to sufficiently water the Sechrest Nine. As a result we lost more than fifty
percent of the turf on the Sechrest nine. Having said that what ensued was that we over seeded it this fall and we successfully
executed the revitalization of the Sechrest nine to an exceptional level. We also took the opportunity to select turf grass varieties
such as T1 Bentgrass, Perennial Ryegrass, and Tall Fescue to better acclimate to the hot Kansas City summers. Found below is a
bullet point list of characteristics of the Sechrest Nine.
Blue Tees-3354 Yards
White Tees- 3125/3074 Yards
Gold Tees-2926 Yards
Red Tees-2728 Yards
Greens-Princeville Bentgrass/T1 Bentgrass/Poa Annua
Tees- T1 Bentgrass/Perennial Rye
Fairways- T1 Bentgrass/Perennial Rye/Poa Annua
Rough’s/Natives-Perennial rye, Tall Fescue, Kentucky
bluegrass, Poa Annua
Collectively between the Watson Course and the Sechrest Nine there are over fifty two acres of creeping bentgrass on the greens, tees, and fairways a
majority of the T1 bentgrass is predominantly on the Watson course where as the Sechrest Nine is a mix of bent, rye and poa. T-1 is the first of a new
generation of creeping bentgrass, with qualities never before seen in golf turf: ball marks divots heal rapidly, reasonable dollar spot resistance, rich green
color, makes visible gains on Poa Annua each year, great on greens, tees and fairways. The single biggest factor that sets T-1 apart is ground coverage. T-1
retains ground coverage under some incredibly tough growing conditions. Every single bent strain in T-1 was tested against Poa Annua, so much so that T-1
makes visible gains against Poa Annua each year. T-1 sets a new standard for bentgrass tiller density, providing a rich, smooth putting surf ace.
