Loddiswell Primary School Newsletter
Friday 17th
January 2020
www.loddiswellprimaryschool.co.uk Dear Parents and Carers,
Will the weather ever improve? Between the rain and wind we do try and get the children outside to enjoy
the fresh air as often as possible, please can you all ensure that your child has a named, waterproof coat with
them every day at school.
Come rain or shine Matty will be selling doughnuts and cookies for 50p each after school today. Come and
have a sweet treat to finish the week.
Marine Conservation
Our Eco Council, Mrs Butler and Anne-Marie have arranged for lots of different companies to come to our
first Marine Conservation afternoon. This will be held on Thursday 13th
February 3.15pm – 4.30pm in the
school hall. Those attending include Seagrass Conservation, Wembury Marine, the Shark Trust and Sound
Diving. They will all have their own stall and display and you will be able to ask them any questions you
may have about sustainability and their eco policies.
Waste workshops
Alex Mack, Devon Education Officer at Resource Futures, came into school on Tuesday to do workshops
with each class.
Class 1 & 2 all thought about the different items that are thrown away and whether they could be reused or
recycled. They made fridge magnets to take home to remind them what recycling they can do at home.
In their workshop, Class 3 & 4 considered why we need to recycle and
the effect it has on the earth’s resources.
In Class 3 they discussed renewable and non-renewable resources.
The children also tried to work out what materials some items had
been recycled from.
In Class 4 the children looked at everyday objects and linked them to
the raw materials that they came from. They then discussed the
environmental problems involved with using each raw material. For
example, by using oil for plastics, there are the chances of oil spills
which kills marine life.
The children went on to find out how we could reuse materials and
found out about the range of everyday objects which can now be
purchased which have been made from recycled materials.

Devon Ability Games
Mrs Clark and Miss Whiting took Effy, Nathan,
Sefton, Sam, Jade and AJ to the Life Centre in
Plymouth to take part in the Devon Ability
Games on Wednesday. Firstly, they were all
given awesome t-shirts. They met a new
monster friend and, after the Opening
Ceremony, they all took part in some amazing
sports. One team came 3rd
in Archery and
received bronze medals. Then they all had a go
at Table Cricket, Badminton, Fencing, Dance
and Yoga. Jade said “I liked Dance the most
because there were different sorts of simple
moves to try. Everyone enjoyed it and had lots
of fun”. After the Closing Ceremony, everyone
headed home tired but happy. Well done to you
all!
Reading Challenge
Congratulations to Keira who has read 50 books and Charlie C in Year 2 who has read 125.
Well done both of you.
Yours sincerely,
Sue Jezard, Executive Head teacher Louise Nicholls, Head of School
