OFFICE NEWS Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) Students from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Colour Run Sponsorship Money Sponsorship money for the colour run can only be paid in cash as this money goes to the P&C. NO ONLINE PAYMENTS CAN BE MADE FOR THIS EVENT.

BAND NEWS

Congratulations to our band on their great performance at Bandfest last week which earned them a Commended Award. Unfortunately we were outmatched this year by some much larger bands, however our students should be proud of their wonderful performance which was the result of hard work.

Additionally, our students showed excellence in their conduct throughout the day, in particularly when listening to other bands.

We look forward to having some extra fun now in preparation for the Carols evening and Presentation Day!

encourage active sports. Please ensure that your child(ren) are safely seeking sponsorships for this event.

Carols Evening This event is scheduled for Thursday 12 December 2019. Dance groups, band and choir groups will also perform at this event. All classes from Kindergarten through to Year 6 will also sing carols at this event. A barbeque tea will be on offer and a raffle will be a major fundraiser on the night. So, if you are willing to donate a prize, please hand it in to the school office staff. We look forward to seeing you.

Films by Callaghan (formerly Digifest) Films by Callaghan is an event held each year by the Callaghan College Schools and will be held on Thursday 31 October 2019 (Halloween) at the Wallsend campus. The P&C committee will embrace the Halloween theme and operate a stall offering pies, sausage rolls and some lucky dips. If you are available and keen to assist, volunteers are desperately needed to make this a success. Please consider helping with setting up, selling merchandise or packing up at the event. Assistance is needed from three thirty/four o’clock until approximately eight o’clock. Your consideration and kindness would be most greatly appreciated.

PRELOVED UNIFORM SHOP NEWS Opening Hours

Tuesday Mornings 8.30am until 9.00am

Thursday Afternoons 2.45pm until 3.15pm

We are fortunate at Maryland Public School to have wonderful volunteers who have enabled us to introduce a new idea to our pre-loved uniform shop. We are extending our range to after school activities / sports activities / dance activities. So if you have any clean, good condition sports clothing or accessories which would sell in our pre-loved shop your donations would be gratefully received. We are looking for anything which may encourage children or enable children to try new activities without breaking the bank.

Please donate to the uniform shop only on Tuesday mornings 8.30am - 9am or Thursday afternoons 2.30pm - 3pm, not in the office.

We will look forward to seeing new items arriving and also new customers to help raise much needed funds for our P&C.

Call in to see us and grab a bargain! Anything we can’t use will be dropped off at the clothing recycling centre at Wallsend.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Cathy & Kiera (Preloved Uniform Shop Coordinators)
