Griffith ANZAC Ceremony 2016 Last Wednesday, students, staff and special guests attended our school ANZAC Day service. Many ex-servicemen and women and their families and friends joined our senior students for lunch in the hall following the service, where many things were discussed over the meal including our visitors’ experiences of war and our students’ knowledge about the ANZACs. The lunch was preceded by a ceremony run by our school captains. The guest speaker was Roger Penrith, Griffith City Council’s Aboriginal Liaison Officer. Roger spoke about Aboriginal soldiers who fought in the wars and the lack of acknowledgement they received when they returned from war. Roger spoke of his own Grandfather and the racism he faced after the war. Roger was pleased to report that Aboriginal people are treated a lot better in the armed forces these days and suggested students think about a career with the armed forces. It was a wonderful day, a very special learning activity for our students and one which our guests enjoy immensely. Thank you to our school captains and students who represented our school perfectly on the day and our choir who sang beautifully. Thank you also to all staff who contributed to the organisation and a special thank you to Stage 3 staff for organising and running the luncheon so well.

K to 2 Fun Run K to 2 students participated in their fun run on Friday just before the rain came! All students participated with enthusiasm and from the smiles on faces it appeared that they enjoyed themselves. Thank you to the parents who came along to cheer them on and to Miss Brain and the K to 2 staff for organising the event and as always, supporting and caring for the students as best they can.

Stage 2 excursion All students in Years 3 & 4 have received information about the major stage overnight excursion. This year we are travelling to Billabong Ranch in Echuca where students will have many activities to do, including horse riding. The

excursion will be November 24th -25th in term 4, but to secure a place students must bring in a non-refundable $50 deposit. THIS IS DUE NO LATER THAN JUNE 10th, which is week 6 of this term. Please read all the information contained in the take-home note and return the deposit with the form given to your child. If you want to know more information, your child's teacher or Mrs Campbell will be happy to talk to you. K-2 Excursion K to 2 children have a wonderful opportunity to participate in an excursion to ALTINA WILDLIFE PARK on WEDNESDAY 18th MAY. The breathtaking encounters that the children will experience will provide many wonderful lifelong memories for them as well as broadening and developing their knowledge of animals and the language that is acquired from experiencing such an exciting event. The cost for the excursion is $16.00 which is the entry fee to the park. The school and P&C are covering the cost of the buses. Please contact your child's teacher if your child did not receive a permission note. FINAL DAY OF PAYMENT FOR THE EXCURSION IS TUESDAY 10TH MAY. Thank you, K-2 Teachers P&C News Meeting this week Our next P&C meeting is this Thursday, May 5th at 5:30pm in the staff room.
