SPECIAL COLLECTION

FOR INSTITUTE SEMINARIANS: APRIL 26

The 2nd Sunday after Easter is traditionally known as Good Shepherd Sunday because of the Gospel of this day. It is a pious custom to pray for vocations on this Sunday, asking our Divine Shepherd to raise up holy priests to teach, sanctify, and guide his flock. Please know that seminarians are greatly in need of your prayers & support to answer the call of the Good Shepherd.

A special collection will be taken up on this Sunday, April 26, for the seminarians of the Institute of Christ the King at our international seminary in Gricigliano, Italy. May God bless you for your generosity towards His future priests!

SPECIAL GRATITUDE

Once again, our profound gratitude is extended to all of you who made flower donations for the Holy Thursday Altar of Reposition and for Easter Sunday. May God reward you for your charity and contribu-tion to the beauty of the Liturgy. Another special thank you to those who assisted in any way with the festive reception after the Easter Sunday Solemn High Mass.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPCOMING EVENTS

THE THIRD & FOURTH PRECEPTS OF THE CHURCH: EASTER DUTY

Those Catholics who have already made their first Holy Communion are obliged to receive Holy Communion at least once a year during the Easter season. (Canon 21, Fourth Council of Lateran in 1215). In the United States, the prescribed time for fulfilling this Easter duty extends: from the first Sunday of Lent to Trinity Sun-day. This precept is not fulfilled by an unworthy reception of Holy Communion by someone conscious of mortal sin. In order to receive an abundance of graces by a worthy reception of Holy Communion during the Easter season, it is good to receive the Sacrament of Penance before approaching the Communion rail. (Remember the third precept of the Church: Catholics are to confess their sins at least once a year). The Council of Trent expresses the wish that the Sacrament of Penance be received during the holy and most suit-able season of Easter. (14 C. 5) During the season when we commemorate the Resurrection of Christ from the dead, it is fitting that we ourselves should rise from the spiritual death of sin and be spiritually reborn into a new and deeper life of grace. Although the Church only strictly requires every Catholic to confess his sins once a year, yet it need hardly be said that if anyone has the misfortune to fall into mortal sin, he should re-ceive the Sacrament of Penance without delay.

Do you remember the precepts of the Church from your Catechism?

1. To assist at Mass on all Sundays and holy days of obligation. 2. To fast & abstain from meat on the appointed days. 3. To confess at least once a year. 4. To receive Holy Communion during Easter Time. 5. To contribute to the support of the Church. 6. To observe the laws of the Church concerning marriage.

LOW SUNDAY: COMMEMORATION OF OUR LORD’S DIVINE MERCY

Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited during Benediction following the 10am High Mass. Chaplet prayer booklets are available in the rear of the church

In the revelations made to Saint Faustina Kowalska in 1931, Our Lord Jesus Christ asked that the Feast of His Divine Mercy will celebrated on Low Sunday (1st Sunday after Easter). A plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful who, on this day, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (for example, “Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!").

“I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall ob-tain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.” --Words of Our Lord to Saint Faustina in 1931

INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST † 06

In honor of the Divine Infant King a Votive High Mass of the Nativity is celebrated at the Shrine at 7:00 pm on the 25th day of every month. In preparation for this monthly commemoration of the Infant King, a Novena prayer in His honor is recited after daily Mass from the 17th through the 25th of every month.

“The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you.” Here, the Divine Infant King, real Symbol for Truth Lived in Charity, will be the center of liturgical worship and devo-tion. A seventeenth century statue of the Divine Infant King, donated by a generous benefac-tor, has been solemnly crowned and enthroned above the High altar of the Shrine by His Emi-nence Francis Cardinal George in December 2007.

The Shrine of Christ the King was built in 1923 by renowned architect Henry Schlacks as St. Clara Church. Having barely escaped the wrecking ball, this magnificent historic landmark has been given to the care of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. With only provisional furnishings, the Shrine is already a haven for the transcendent beauty of the Ex-traordinary Form of the Latin Rite, dear to our beloved Pope Benedict XVI.

Novena Prayer

O Divine Infant Jesus, I have recourse to Thee. Please, through Thy Blessed Mother, assist me in this necessity (mention intention here), because I firmly believe that Thy Divinity can help me. I hope with confidence to obtain thy holy grace. I love Thee with all my heart and with all the strength of my soul. I repent sincerely of my sins and I beg Thee, O Good Jesus, to grant me the strength to triumph over them. I resolve never more to offend Thee and I come to offer myself to Thee with the intention of enduring everything rather than to displease Thee. Henceforth, I desire to serve Thee with fidelity and, for the love of Thee, O Divine Infant, I will love my neighbor as myself. All powerful Infant, O Jesus, I implore Thee again, assist me in this need. Grant me the grace of possessing Thee eternally with Mary and Joseph and of adoring Thee with the angels in the heavenly court. Amen.
