Mr. K. was brought up a "Onlled Brethren" and in a nei'ihbor-hood where tbero were no Baptists, and had. consequently, never become much acquainted with the church until after his marriage. He married a Baptist Isdy thai knew why she wus a Kaptist nnd tried hard to convince her htisband that Iho principles of lhat denominaiion wero the teachings of lite New Testa menl He was prejudiced i^amsl the denomination, but finally study the subject and the outcome was, he inined the Baplist church in Attica, Ohio. Through a relative of Mrs. K. some ot the leaden in the church heard that he had joined the Baptist denomi-nation and immediately tried lo secure his services. It is not my purpose to sny whether Kelly was the man for the position or not. He has preached against sin and preached plainly. Some were hit and tried to do belter, o l h e n found fault with his sermons—thought he was too radical. The same ones lhat were the l e s d e n in getting him here h ive b-en among the leaden in exnei-l lng him from the pulpit (after they had hired him for a year), and in bringing false charges against him. tor which he w.va excluded without the attempt lo provt them. In the last covenant meet-ing he said lhat if he had said anything unchristian or had wronged any of them he was sorry and asked forgiveness of all true christians. Among other reasons given w h y he should nol b^ restored, o member said "ho did nol ask our forgiveness but asked the forgiveness of all irue chris-tians !"
