Scotland, at an early hour Sunday morning. The Hear mink immediately, hercre^v baring no time to launch a boat or make any effort whatever to save themselves. Of the fourteen m e n o n board the Hear twelve went down with the vessel. The two others were rescued liy a boat from the Hritan- nia. After the collision the Hritannia. which was badly damaged, transferred her lorty-five passengers to the steamer Thames and was taken in tow by that vessel, the two steamers proceeding slowly in the direction of I<eith. They had not gone far. however, itefore the | hawser connecting Hie vessel broke, and before another line conld be car- ried to the dnmaged vessel she gave a terrible plunge and sank beneath the waves. Fortonotely the crew had put on life-belts after the collision with the j Hear, nnd all. with the exception of the chief engineer, manured to keep afloat untif they were picked up by boats from the steamer Thames.
