THE CODING SPACE

The Coding Space is an after-school and summer program where students learn to tackle challenges independently through learning to code. Students work on projects in either Scratch or Javascript, and can choose which projects are appropriate for their level. Our teachers then make sure that students are engaged as well as challenged by what they’re working on. Our classes are run using The Socratic Method by which we ask students questions that lead students to figuring out answers on their own. Rather than giving students answers, we encourage them to learn the skills and tactics needed to independently problem solve. By providing students with challenging projects and a space where students are in charge of their own learning, our students develop their intellectual confidence, a growth mindset, and computational thinking skills. Grades 2-4 Mondays Fee: $525 REGISTER ONLINE: http://www.thecodingspace.com/ramaz Eli Kariv (929) 352-1272 [email protected]

HOBBYQUEST: AVIATION

Take your building and flying skills to the next level and join us for Hobby Quest’s Extreme Flight! This session we are going to build really cool planes that know what it means to be Extreme! Of course every pilot needs to start out with a little training, so first we’ll build the J3 Piper, a lightweight balsa wood glider used for training pilots! Next we’ll build the ultra-cool balsa wood Airhawk. The Airhawk was a fighter plane that was used during the Second World War. Some of the most extreme flying machines are the ones we see flying in space! The super cool glow-in-the-dark UFO is going to magically fly being controlled just by the palm of your hand! Not only will it light up like a real spacecraft, but it will fly as high as 10ft! If that wasn’t extreme enough, you’ll also be well on your way to knowing everything there is to know about flight, when we teach you how planes fly and what each part of the airplane is for. Pretty soon you’ll be ready to start your own flight training! Build it! Fly it! Keep it! Kindergarten, Grades 1-2: Mondays Grades 3-4: Thursdays Monday Fee: $253.50 Thursday Fee: $292.50 Jessica Piegaro [email protected] 201-568-2289 ext 112

Art – Monday: Kindergarten / Tuesday: Grades 1-2 Join the art club this semester with Mr. H. in the art studio! We will be reviewing the work of some of the most influential artists as inspiration for our masterpieces. Through the use of a variety of mediums such as paint, clay, tissue paper, oil pastels, etc. we will make some magic happen and have a great time doing it!

Art Expression – Tues: Grades 3-4 / Thurs: Grades 1-2 Making art is a pure gesture of the hand and mind, like a photograph of our subconscious. By enjoying the process of art and observing artwork, we get to know our needs and characters better. Children will learn to identify their feelings and work with different art materials to stimulate the senses. The various ways of creating enrich creativity, thinking outside the box, and can help build strong self-esteem. Students will learn to appreciate their own artwork as well as their friends’. We will work individually and in group settings, on short and long-term projects establishing trust, continuation, motivation, and the joy of community. No previous experience or artistic talent required; all are welcome. Moriah Fahima (K-Techeylet Hebrew teacher) studied art therapy at NYU and will be running this club. Parents will be asked to sign a consent form allowing their child’s artwork to be photographed for purposes of research and study. Only pseudonyms will be used when writing about their art.

Book – Monday: Pre-K, Kindergarten We love reading books! In book club we read books either by theme or by author studies. We participate in fun follow up activities with different mediums of art. Sometimes we even create our own books!

Chorus – Monday: Grades 3-4

Lower school chorus is a time for students to enjoy ensemble singing and gain confidence in vocal performance as they perform throughout the year. Their choral repertoire includes English, Secular, Hebrew and Jewish music. They sing canons and learn to sing in two and three part harmony. This is a fun opportunity for the children to fine tune their vocal skills and sing with fellow students. We hope that your children will join the Lower School Chorus - the more the merrier!

Coding Club- Tues: K-Grade 2 / Thurs: Grades 3-4 Interested in computers and programming? Working with different coding programs, robots, and equipment students will expand upon their knowledge of coding and will learn to write their own codes and learn programming language. Students will be able to code both plugged (computers/iPads) and unplugged (using robots/art).

Israeli Culture – Thursday: Pre-K, Kindergarten Your children will experience life as an “actual Israeli” as we explore the authentic culture of Israel through songs, games, food, and fun activities.

Homework – Monday/Tuesday/Thursday: Grades 1-4 Homework club is an opportunity for children to work on their homework in a supervised and social setting. One English teacher and one Hebrew teacher are available to assist the students with questions they may have and do their best to ensure that each child is utilizing their time focused on their homework. While some students may be able to complete all of their written homework during this time (supervised reading must be done at home with an adult), it is highly dependent on the individual child. Parents are reminded to confirm with their child at home whether all homework has been completed.

Scrap Book – Monday: Grades 2-4 Join the first ever Ramaz Scrapbook Club! A scrapbook is a decorative photo album that preserves memories through photographs and flat memorabilia (tickets, letters, postcards, pictures, etc.). Each week we will create a scrapbook page with a different theme. At the end of the year each child will take home a scrapbook filled with memories.

Sports – Mon: Grades: 3-4 / Tues: K / Thurs: Grade 1 -2 Students work on their skills while engaging in different types of organized sports; here we promote sportsmanship. They also play a variety of tag and cooperative games, helping to emphasize teamwork. However, the common goal in our club for every activity is for the students to have fun!
