•Support classes to assist students to succeed in their studies
•USIQ curriculum is used for classes
•Compulsory attendance
•Non-assessable
•For all full time face to face students
•Should be timetabled next to or with a main stream unit

Why do we have core skills classes?
For the students :
•to assist with the completion of their qualification•improved service
For the lecturers:•LLN data to enable the development of support strategies for students•increased academic engagement with other lecturers of the same qualification

Core Skills Classes
•USIQ units are used to deliver the classes
•Your Portfolio manages the profile and reporting for the classes
•Designed to support students through their qualifications, once the need is established. May be LLN or may be other skills
USIQ
•USIQ support is obtained from the ESL area
•Focus is on Literacy and numeracy
•ESL manage the reporting and lecturer allocation

COSKJ337 = identifier for core skills roll and example mainstream course number
(This enables you to identify rolls for reporting)
• Timetable Core Skills classes in computer rooms preferably
• Timetable Core Skills classes together with or sequential to a main stream unit

Reporting Requirements
Week 20 of each semester collate the following and send (in the zip folder emailed to you in the re-alignment documents) to Delivery, Planning and Performance
•Summary of BKSB results
•Summary of Core Skills attendance for each class
•PL/LPM feedback
•Learning plans/diaries with unit name, roll number, lecturer name
•Lecturer Competency Matrix and VCAL for each Core Skills lecturer
