Abstract

Promoting children’s health is a solid investment in their future and in Europe’s future. Schools should be protected environments where children can learn healthy diet and lifestyle habits early on. This booklet illustrates the many colourful ways European countries promote health with nutritious and tasty school meals. It is inspired by the European Healthy School Lunches initiative and produced to celebrate this joint initiative of the European Commission, the EU High Level Group on Nutrition and Physical Activity and Milano Ristorazione, in the context of EXPO Milano 2015. On the 8th May 2015, 70000 children in Milan from pre-school to secondary schools were served with healthy meals cooked from national healthy recipes from the 28 EU Member States as well as from Norway and Switzerland. The event also highlighted an important aspect of European diversity in the wake of Europe Day on 9th May.
