First Reading At The Mass Acts 8:5�8, 14�17 �
Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Christ
to them. With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was
said by Philip when they heard it and saw the signs he was doing.�
For unclean spirits, crying out in a loud voice,�
came out of many possessed people,�
and many paralyzed or crippled people were cured.�
There was great joy in that city.�

Now when the apostles in Jerusalem�
heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God,�
they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for
them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit,�
for it had not yet fallen upon any of them;�
they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.�

En aquellos días, Felipe bajó a la ciudad de Samaria y predicaba
allí a Cristo. La multitud escuchaba con atención lo que decía
Felipe, porque habían oído hablar de los milagros que hacía y los
estaban viendo: de muchos poseídos salían los espíritus inmundos,
lanzando gritos, y muchos paralíticos y lisiados quedaban curados.
Esto despertó gran alegría en aquella ciudad.
Cuando los apóstoles que estaban en Jerusalén se enteraron de
que Samaria había recibido la palabra de Dios, enviaron allá a
Pedro y a Juan. Éstos, al llegar, oraron por los que se habían
convertido, para que recibieran el Espíritu Santo, porque aún no lo
habían recibido y solamente habían sido bautizados en el nombre
del Señor Jesús. Entonces Pedro y Juan impusieron las manos sobre
ellos, y ellos recibieron el Espíritu Santo.

Hermanos: Veneren en sus corazones a Cristo, el Señor, dispuestos
siempre a dar, al que las pidiere, las razones de la esperanza de

conducta cristiana de ustedes, pues mejor es padecer haciendo el

� ¿Alguna vez has buscado en Google la palabra "amor"? Si lo has hecho, es
posible que hayas encontrado algo llamado la Calculadora del Amor. Es un sitio web
donde puedes proporcionar dos nombres, y se calcula el porcentaje de probabilidad de
una relación exitosa. Curioso, ingresé mi nombre y el de mi esposa. ¡Veinte por ciento!
¡Espero que mi esposa no lea esto!�
� Entonces decidí agregar mi nombre y Dios. ¡Un enorme trece por ciento! �
Luego, para el último intento, puse mi nombre y Jesús. ¡Un cero por ciento muy �
decepcionante! ¿Soy tan indigno de ser amado? Por supuesto, luego leí la letra pequeña
en la parte inferior de la página: "Tenga en cuenta que este sitio no tiene ninguna �

� La verdad es que el mundo moderno parece no tener una idea real de qué es el

Pregunta:
He estado yendo a misa durante años y
siempre me he preguntado: ¿por qué hacemos
las tres señales de la cruz antes del Evange-
lio?
Responder:
Ciertamente, muchas personas van a misa u
otras devociones, haciendo y diciendo cosas
por costumbre o por reverencia y sin
comprender realmente las razones detrás de
algunas de estas cosas. Pero todo lo que
hacemos tiene un significado o un propósito
que nos ayuda a adorar mejor, proclamar
nuestras creencias o enfocar la atención de las
personas en algo que tiene mayor importancia
o significado. Una revisión del significado de
varios gestos y prácticas puede ayudarnos a
tener una apreciación más profunda de lo que
hacemos.
Hay una pequeña oración que acompaña a las
tres cruces antes del Evangelio: "Que las
palabras del Santo Evangelio estén en mi
mente, en mis labios y en mi corazón". Al estar
de pie para escuchar el Evangelio,
reconocemos que Jesús está presente y que
las palabras del Evangelio están dirigidas a
nosotros. Todos los gestos y posturas
especiales que adoptamos antes del Evangelio
están destinados a ayudarnos a prepararnos
para escuchar la Palabra, así como a actuar en
consecuencia. El incienso, el Aleluya, el
diácono o el sacerdote, y el diálogo especial y
el anuncio que introduce el Evangelio nos
ayudan a centrar nuestra atención en las
