Irene, Jim Caseys wife had emergency heart surgery recently but the news is
good. After a prolonged hospital stay she is recovering nicely. She will have to
curtail most activities for a while. Jim has to assume a lot of the household
chores instead of practicing his magic. Hes glad to do it. Keep Irene in your
prayers and good wishes.
This is an early newsletter to give our members time to practice and/or pre-
pare something for our members night on June 6th. There is enough talent in
our club to entertain an audience, especially one composed of fellow magicians
who are not judgmental. If anything they are encouraging. So put something
together or do an effect that youre comfortable with and share your talent
with the rest of the group. Be it cards, silks, ropes coins or even doves. Bring
it along and show your stuff. We may even publish your picture in forthcoming
newsletters. Fame is just a trick away.

Magic is entertaining, but perhaps most often enjoyed live. With that thought
in mind, our next meeting will be on Thursday, June 6, 2013, and the focus will be on CLOSE UP effects.
Bring, share and learn all kind of tricks that you can carry in your pockets. Ma-
gicians pockets are always full of little goodies, perfect for that spur of the
moment trick.
1. I would like to build upon our attendance at our monthly meetings and urge all
to continue to invite friends or those we meet who have an interest in magic to
come out and visit our club. We have had some great magic at our meetings and
consistent attendance and inviting guests will help continue the trend.
2. I would also like to encourage everyone to bring some magic to share at each
meeting. Immediately following the short business portion I always make time
for anyone to show something. This is before the scheduled main program event
for the evening. Maybe you are working on a new item, maybe it is just a simple
routine you enjoy performing or a new gadget or utility item you want to demon-
strate. As I look around at the amazing amount of talent we have at any given
meeting, I think we can all learn something new every time someone else per-
forms or shares with the club. Gale Molovinsky

Creative Staff Michael J. Kent (Scenic Design) - Michaels theatrical career began in 1971 building and painting sets with the
Crown Players in Wichita, Kansas. A transplant from Theatre Winter Haven, he is now a
resident of Palmetto and considers the Manatee Players his new playground. Michel is known
for his accomplished set design, scenic art and specialty construction skills. Manatee Players
audiences have seen some of his costumes and props in THE WIZARD OF OZ, HELLO
DOLLY and CATS. Michael created the special effects for WILLY WONKA. His latest
achievement was the scenic art and creation of the Ho Chi Minh statue for Manatee Players
latest production of MISS SAIGON.
Picnic Information
The annual Ring 81 picnic will be at Coquina Beach in Bradenton. A map was
forwarded to you recently. You should bring your own food and drink. Ice
will be provided. The idea was to have this a pot luck affair so you may want
to bring something that can be shared with others.
Dont forget your utensils.

Trick of the Month. Match two
Effect: By picking 2 cards from the deck, you will be able to match both of them up with its opposite card. Card Trick: First have your spectator shuffle the cards to ensure they are in no particular order. Next, take the deck and fan them face up across a table. Quickly glance at the two cards which are on both ends of the fanned deck. (Don't be obvious in sneaking a peek at the 2 cards) If, for example, the card on the far right is the Queen of diamonds, and on the far left is the 2 of spades, then you will go through the deck and pretend to pick "any 2 cards" - they will be the "opposite" cards of the 2 on either end. In this case, the Queen of hearts and the 2 of clubs. Once you have the two opposite cards picked out of the deck, collect the cards and tell the spectator that you will now deal off from the top of the deck one card at a time (face down) and he should say "stop" whenever he wants. At this point you will take the Queen of hearts and place it face up on the pile of face down cards. Take the remaining portion of the deck and place it on top. Now, repeat the procedure for the 2 of clubs - dealing one cards down at a time face down and have the spectator say stop whenever he wishes. (This must be before you reach the first card, the Queen of hearts) Place the 2 of clubs face up on the face down pile and then place the remaining deck on top. Now you should have an all face down deck, except for the 2 selected cards... the Queen of hearts and the 2 of clubs. Have the spectator cut the deck in half and then place the bottom half on the top. Next, fan the deck face down across the table so that the two selected cards are the only ones showing. Now pick up the Queen of hearts, plus the card to the right (Queen of diamonds) and then pick up the 2 of clubs, plus the cards to the right (2 of spades). By magic, the two cards have paired up with its opposite card. Your friends will be amazed

Its not too early to start practicing your magic that you may want to perform
at our annual picnic on July 14th. its a great venue to entertain your fellow
