When you ask the folks at Magnolia Avenue Baptist to donate items, watch out! We

recently held a Yard Sale to raise funds for Benevolence purposes and asked the MAG family to donate items. We had an overwhelming response. Thank you for all of your donations. Never before in the history of mankind has so much “stuff” been collected in one spot! The outcome of the sale was an amazing $10,300+ dollars raised to help the needy people in our church and community. The idea was birthed by one of our deacons, JimAsh, and the body of deacons agreed that it would be a good idea. A committee was established to begin the plans. (JimAsh,BobTreen,KeithPolstonand ViEstel) Many others were involved in carrying out the gigantic task. Two days were set aside to collect the items, then two days for the sale. EldonDreyer organized the

“pick-up” crew which included BillBounds,RayRobison,JerryChrysong,Normanand Cindy

Pearson. On Wednesday morning instead of rehearsing,

CalebChoir met in the parking lot to help set up. Numerous others, too many to name or remember, came to help in anyway they could.

In addition to raising the funds and exceeding the goal of $10,000, we had three new people in Sunday school who were invited through the sale and two neighbor children enrolled in VBS. Even the weather cooperated with unusually low temperatures for the four days of the sale.

God blessed in so many ways and the blessings will continue as God blesses us as we bless those in need.

“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers,

you have done it unto me.”

To my church family,Thank you so much for your prayers during and following my back surgery. I can’t begin to express the comfort that I felt. I especially thank the Seasoned Singles and Friends Class for all the meals they prepared and brought to me. It was a truly humbling experience for me to have others come and do personal things that I was unable to do. I believe God brings us to our knees on purpose so we don’t forget all he does for us through our friends and church family. Again, thank you all so much for your care and prayers for me. I am progressing well.

In His love, Shirley MyersDear Magnolia Family, We have been deeply touched by your many expressions of appreciation and affirmation. We will treasure your cards and letters, the gifts, the love offering, and your words of encouragement. We feel you have outdone yourselves in blessing us. The memories of these days will help sustain us as we make the adjustment to the next part of our lives. You will be much in our prayers and our hearts even as we move to a time when we are unable to see you each week and shake your hand. You are a great people and we have truly been blessed and our lives have been enriched to have served beside you in Kingdom work during these years. God’s richest blessings be on each of you who make up Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church.

Howdy Ya’ll! We had a blessed time down at the Saddle Ridge Ranch with 605 wranglers, buckaroos, ranch hands, and sheriff’s all mingling together. It was a hot dog of a time! We enjoyed time in Worship Rally Valley, our Bible Study Bunkhouse, music at Campfire Creek, crafts at Blazing Star Stables, missions at Firefly Cavern, snacks at Big Sky Grill and recreation at Mustang Mountain! It was an amazing week. We had some time to answer some serious questions:

Day1–WhoamI? I am God’s greatest creation. I can praise Him. Psalm 139:14 Day2–DoesGodCareAboutMe? God cares about me. I can trust Him no matter what. 1 Peter 5:7 Day3–WhatisGod’sPlanforMe? God has a plan for me. I can have a relationship with Jesus. Jeremiah 29:11 Day4–HowCanIbeLikeJesus? I can be like Jesus. I can follow His Example. Philippians 2:5 Day5-WhatDoIDoNow? I know what to do. I can live in ways that honor God. James 1:5

All throughout the day we studied these truths. As we learned these we grew in our knowledge of the Lord. God’s plan for salvation was presented on Wednesday to the 3-5 graders and on Thursday to the 2nd graders.

The Holy Spirit moved and changed 41 lives. Praise our awesome Father! Many of these children come from non-churched families. What a blessing to have that

mission field on our own campus. Thank you to Mike Studebaker for heading up the counseling efforts and to the great team of counselors who came to be tools used by God. Michael Pierpoint is heading up follow-up. We would love to have you be a part of this.If you were at the VBS Family Night, you witnessed three baptisms. What a great way to start the evening. Once again we were collecting pennies all week encour-aging the boys and girls to bring them in. The monies raised are being sent to Dana and Cindy Bratton in Thailand. Dana builds connections with people by

mowing lawns with a weed eater! Crazy! Their hope was funding for a riding lawn mower. The competition grew fierce and girls were in the lead until Thursday. In the

end girls had 209 pounds and the boys had 233 pounds of pennies. This being said, Montia found 100 gooey, slimy smelly night crawlers to dump on VBS Director, Cindy Enlow’s, head! EEwwww! She did “Take it like a man.” We did have a few pennies come in late to make the total weight of pennies given 454 lbs. Thank you for those who took the time

to pray. Thank you to those who contributed immeasur-able amounts of snacks for the children (and teachers). Thank you to those who gave monetary gifts, and gifts of time. Thank you to all of our teachers, helpers, rotation leaders and helpers, set up, registration, t-shirt sales, office staff, building maintenance crew, coin counters, decision counselors, visiting story tellers, first aid team….. and on and on from preschool through junior high. It was a blessing to work with you. It couldn’t be done without your help.A special thanks to the divisional directors and leaders, SylviaMarques,LynaeDacus(preschool); NicoleLovato(children); BenWahlman,MikeLovato (jr. high). In addition I would like to thank our Pastor,Montia, for his heart and openness to hosting and assist-ing the VBS here at Mag. One incredibly big thank you to our VBS Director – Cindy Enlow! She has given her all with a willing spirit to lead and direct our VBS program. Thank you from all of us and especially the children. See ya’ll next year as we head to New York City, “The Big Apple.”

“As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” That has always been our goal. At our age we are no longer able to organize a snow camp or take the church group on a waterskiing trip, but we can still serve. We can all serve if we just act when the opportunity arises.Three years ago my husband was hospitalized at Riverside Community Hospital. We learned they had a need in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. No one supplied quilts or blankets to cover the isolates. We began making them with a label reading “Made in Christian Love.” It was our testimony, but not an outreach.I spoke to Vi regarding our project. She felt the church could provide labels giving the church name and website. Thus WE LOVE BABIES was born. We have delivered 60 quilts to the hospital so far. Please pray with us that the new parents will search out our church. We want to thank Mag for helping us spread the news of God’s love.

WE LOVE BABIES by Mona Santee

A Bible is one of the most valuable gifts you can give your child. The value of the Bible you

choose is not dependent upon whether or not it is expensive. The Bible’s value lies in the fact that it is God’s Word. Choose a Bible that will last for several years. As your child grows she or he may need a bible more suitable for their age. Your child may benefit from having two different bibles before entering the teen years – one as a preschooler and one to use while in the first through sixth grades.Guidelines for selecting a child’s Bible:•Size–The Bible should be large enough for the child to hold easily, but not too large or heavy to carry. Consider a tote for younger children to help carry their Bible.• Complete – Preschoolers and school-age children alike need to know that both Testaments are included in the bible and are equally important. Choose a complete Bible rather than “Bible Books” that are storybooks. • User Friendly – The Bible should be easy to use. Consider purchasing a Bible that contains a Table of Contents to assist children in locating

hard-to-find books and verses.• Realistic Illustrations – Because the Bible and the people and stories found in the Bile are true, pictures in the Bible should be as realistic as possible.•Translation–Choose an accurate translation of the biblical text rather than a paraphrase. The best Bible translations for children combine reliability with readability such as the Holman CSB®.• Study helps – School-age children may wish to know more about the customs or lifestyles of the people in the Bible. Many Bibles include great maps and other study helps such as the Holman Illustrated Bible for Kids.• Durability – Make sure the cover is of good quality. Consider purchasing a Bible carrying case that will protect and add length to the life of a child’s Bible.• Your child’s input – Allow your school-age child to help select the color or cover design of his or her Bible. Monogramming the outer cover or inscribing the inside cover will give them a feeling of ownership.

Next year Celebrate Freedom will be observed on Sunday, July 3, 2011. I will repeat what I wrote last year: I am calling on you to plan your summer around that date so you can be involved. Even this year at least fifty people turned down the request to participate because they had planned out-of-town trips.
