KEYS TO THE VARIOUS TABLES TO DEFINE FEASIBILITY
1) Define Ipn rated primary currentUse primary gauges defined by standard (IEC):10, 12,5, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 75 A and their decimal multiples.
2) Define Ith rated short-time thermal current for 1 secondShort-circuit current usually lasts 1 second.Should this value be different (equal to a lenght "t"), calculate the following:
Ith (for 1 sec.) = Ith x √t
example: 25 kA for 3 sec. >> 25 x √3 = 43,3 kA for 1 sec.
3) Calculate coefficient "K"The above reperesents the key to the various tables
Ith for 1 sec.K = Ipn
example: Ipn = 100 A , Ith = 12,5 kA 1 sec. >> K = 12500 / 100 = 125
4) Finding position on the tableLocate column "K" and stop on the line corresponding to a value higher than K.
example: K calculate value = 125 >> ligne K = 150
5) Check feasibility A possible current transformer will feature the performances shown in the columns

KEY S TO THE VARIOUS TABLES TO DEFINE FEASIBILITY
1) Define Up rated primary voltage
According to the system voltage (U) and the type of transformer's connections: between phase andground (Up = U / √ 3) or betwwee phases (Up = U).Guaranteed transformer accuracy is between 0,8 Un and 1,2 Un. Make use of this feature to choosestandard voltage values.
example: At 6600:√3 V voltage, guaranteed accuracy ranges between 5300: √3 to 7900:√3.Consequentely, when a 6900: √3 voltage transformer is required, a standard value of6600:√3 can be used.
2) Defining the rated insulation level
Rated insulation level must be the one immediatly above assigned voltage. To this regard the IECstandard advises :· Rated lightning-impulse voltage· Rated power-frequency voltage· Highest voltage for equipment ( Um) which result in:
U = 3 - 3,3 - 5 - 5,5 - 6 - 6,6 kV Rated Insulation level >> 7,2/20 (see note) / 60 kVU = 10 - 11 kV Rated Insulation level >> 12/28 (see note) / 75 kVU = 13,8 - 15 kV Rated Insulation level >> 17,5/38 (see note) / 95 kVU = 20 - 22 kV Rated Insulation level >> 24/50 (see note) /125 kV
NOTE: The power frequency dielectric test, according to IEC standards is performed using thevalue calculated using this formula:
5 x Up with maximum value of the relative isolation degree.exemples:U = 22 kV TT phase-earth >> insulation level 24 / 50 / 125 kV >> Up=U / √3=22 / √3=12,7 kVand 5 x 12,7 = 63,5 kV therefore the level is 24 / 50 / 125 kVU = 3,3 kV TT phase-ground >> insulation level 7,2 / 20 / 60 kV >> Up=U / √3=3,3 / √3=1,9 kVand 5 x 1,9 = 10 kV therefore the level is 7,2 / 10 / 60 kV
3) Define Us rated secondary voltage
Standard values are 100 and 110 divided √3, for star-connected measure and protection coils, and100 et 110 divided 3 for open triangle connected residual voltage.
4) Define the Frequency
Values are 50 or 60 Hz F Reversal not possible in case of error

5) Rated voltage factor
This is the factor multiplying primary voltage Up to define the hihest voltage for equipment Um.
1,9 for 8 hours for phase-ground voltage transformers1,2 continuous for phase-phase voltage transformers
6) Finding position on the table
Locate the column corresponding to the number of secondary coil windings and to the type of output(either simultaneous or not).Please refer to technical notes on this topic.

Output
The output is simultaneous when two secondary windings are used for measure or for protection.The output is not simultaneous only when there is a winding for the residual voltage besides asecondary one for measure or protection.The winding for residual voltage has an open-triangle connection. During normal service, voltage isnull at the triangle terminals, therefore the output of this winding is null.When out of order, current at the triangle terminals activates the resistance and/or the relays.When out of order, the accuracy of the secondary measure or protection coil winding is notguaranteed.
The following is a typical connection of phase-ground voltage transformers:
Isolated N (P2) terminal.
Standard manifacturing of phasee-ground voltage transformers features the N (P2) terminal in theterminal box isolated from earth by 3 kV.Transformers are always delivered with this terminal connected to the earth terminal by a strip.In some cases this N (P2) terminal cannot be located in the terminal box. In any case, it is connectedto the ground inside the transformer.These cases include the following:+ VT with three secondary windings.+ VT with two secondary windings and double primary ratio.
