A Message from the Principal
Dear Lake Windward Families,
What an amazing school year! It is hard to believe that the 2016-17 school year is almost over! I have loved watching
your children grow socially, academically, and physically! I am so proud of our students and their successes!
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your support in our classrooms, at PTA events, and at our
celebrations. Thank you for the time you have invested in homework, projects, studying and more! Thank you for
your support of me and for allowing me the opportunity to be the principal of such a great school!
I wish all of our 5th grade students and their families well as they embark on the next chapter…middle school! I
know our students are well prepared and will enjoy their time at their new school, however we will miss you!!
Please take advantage of the summer to continue reading and writing. Your children are more than welcome to send
me a note this summer, and I promise to write back.
Mrs. Julie Morris

Enjoy your summer, I can’t wait to hear all about your summer adventures in August!
Warm Regards,
Julie Morris

Summer Reading
Whether you are relaxing at home or heading for the beach, pick out
some books to read for fun. Did you know there are studies showing
that students who read four or more books during summer get better
grades on their tests in fall? Encourage your students to read for at
least twenty minutes per day. Check the Media Center page on the
school website for reading suggestions. Make reading part of your
family’s summer plans. You’ll be glad you did!

A Message from the PTA President
Hi Gator Families,
The last week…really? It’s hard to believe another school year has passed…and it has been another awesome journey.
As my oldest goes off to middle school in the fall, I am so proud of how LWE has helped prepare him for this next
chapter. A big thank you to our parents, staff, faculty, and students for making this school great.
This summer, our new PTA board will be hard at work planning for the next school year. I want to thank our new
board members who have stepped up to help out…we could not do this without our volunteers! I would also like to
request help for our last remaining board positions which we desperately need filled: Secretary & co-President.
If you are interested in either position, please contact me directly!
A preview of several new & exciting changes for the fall include replacing our membership drive with a school
funding drive which combines the fall fundraiser & membership drive into one. We also hope to roll out online
payments with our new website platform making it easier to pay for PTA events and activities.
Our PTA hopes you enjoy a long, restful, fun summer with your family & friends!
Sincerely,
Ashlee Few
LWE PTA President
WHAT DOES MY PTA DO? WHERE DOES MY PTA MONEY GO?
Student Enrichment & Support School Enrichment & Support
Teacher Enrichment & Support
Family & Community Support
YOUR PTA at work.
These include software, learning resources, and programs that the PTA funds, and they directly support the students.
Next is our school enrichment & support. Various projects were able to be paid for last year by the PTA which enhanced our school environment & campus. We added some new playground benches & equipment, purchased a trophy case to display LWE’s numerous awards, and replaced hallway strips for displaying student work. We are also still in the process of cleaning up areas of our school campus & installing shade trees for our playground.
For our teacher support…a big change this year was the offering of teacher grants. We allocated $10,000 for this purpose. The grants submitted this past year totaled $22,000 in requests. We worked w/ the school to fund or partially fund as many of these as possible. Teacher stipends are for teachers who join the PTA. They are given an $80 reimbursement amount for classroom supplies & needs.
Our family & community support is a broad area in which we have many different programs, activities, and services that we provide the school & our LWE families. Many of you have participated in these fun events – you know what they are all about and we try to make sure the kids have a great time. Other ways we support our families & community is by hosting a website and Facebook page. We hope that information is more than just a flyer in a backpack so we try to maintain these various means of communication. It is part of our plan for next year to try and offer membership registration & payment acceptance online.
