MAINE LIONS DISTRICT 41
SERVING TOGETHER MAKING A DIFFERENCE
District Governor Michelle Crocker Windsor, Maine 04363
207-458-3232 (C) [email protected]
A Message from DG Michelle Crocker
Hello Maine Lions,
Merry Christmas! This is the time of year that the air sparkles with excitement. Today, as on other
days this month, the air sparkles with snow as well. Oh the wonder and fun of living in Maine during
the winter.
The next two weeks will see us wrap up those busy days of spreading good cheer to those around us.
Thank you to all who work hard to ensure that those around us, not as fortunate as ourselves, are
able to share in the warmth and cheer of the season.
A few quick reminders:
For Club Officers, please be sure your membership roster at International reflects the membership of
your club. It will save some additional work in January as the second half dues notices are sent from
both International and the District.
January’s Cabinet Meeting will include the Maine Lions Club Chili Cook-off. Meeting is January 29th
at the Manchester Lions Club; meeting begins at 9:30 with the Chili Contest to follow. Special email
December, 2016
reminding everyone of the details will come out later this month. Remember to bring at least 2
nonperishable items with you to get your ballot for voting.
The Environmental Photo Contest entries need to be sent in to me by February 10th to be eligible for
the judging. First place winner from the District will be forwarded onto International to compete at that
level. All Entries received will be on display at our District Convention in April. Photos should be from
the area/communities your club serves. Special email will be sent soon reviewing the details of this
contest.
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and many blessings for a Happy New Year,
DG Michelle and Lion Glen
Dear Lions, For 100 years, Lions have served like no one else. Our Centennial is an exciting opportunity to celebrate our legacy of local and global service. And I want you to feel just as excited about our future. We have set a goal of serving 200 million people per year by 2021—tripling our current humanitarian impact—so we can meet the emerging needs of our next century of service. It's ambitious. It's life-changing. It's what we do as Lions. To reach our goal, we developed a strategic plan called LCI Forward. We built this roadmap for the future based on feedback from thousands of Lions just like you. LCI Forward embraces new ways to serve, new cutting-edge technologies and new ways to engage youth in Lions. It will offer more tools for training leaders, more global marketing to raise our visibility, and more ways to experience the pride of being a Lion. Learn more about our strategic plan by exploring the LCI Forward page. Then share the special LCI Forward video with your club. We will share new updates and resources throughout the year, and I look forward to working with your club to achieve our ambitious goals and ensure we remain the global leader in service.
Very truly yours, Chancellor Bob Corlew Your International President
Guatemala has Eliminated River Blindness
Guatemala's minister of health recently announced that the World Health
Organization (WHO) has officially verified the elimination of onchocerciasis
from Guatemala. Guatemala is now the fourth country in the Americas to be
verified free of this disease, after Colombia (2013), Ecuador (2014), and
Mexico (2015). LCIF congratulates the people and government of
Guatemala, The Carter Center's Onchocerciasis Elimination Program for
the Americas (OEPA), and many devoted Lions on this monumental
achievement!

This Is Diabetes [holiday travel edition]
Dear Lions Member and ALL LIONS CLUBS
Diabetes is everywhere. But it’s also invisible. The person
you’re standing next to in the airport security line, the trainer
at your gym, the checker at the grocery store, even your
doctor—any of them could have diabetes. And at least one of them probably does…
And, as they say, “out of sight, out of mind.” So many people still do not think of
diabetes as urgent or life threatening although diabetes kills more Americans each
year than AIDS and breast cancer combined—and every 23 seconds, another person
is diagnosed.
That’s why we’re shining a powerful spotlight on this deadly disease this month, and
every month which is Lions Diabetes month. We urgently need your support. It will
save people’s lives. Your generous donation will help us make a significant impact in
our lifetime. Just think of all we’ve accomplished already!
Can we count on your help? Donate now. Send your check to Lions District
Treasurer. Jay Galusha, 61 Sunrise Drive, South China, ME 04358
Please don’t delay—
Thank you again for helping us make American Diabetes Month and Lions Diabetes
Month COUNT! We’re so grateful for your support.
This Is DiabetesTM. This is how we send it packing.
All the best,
Lion Cliff Randall
Diabetes Co Chairman
DISTRICT CONVENTION
Honoring Lions Who Have Passed Each year the district honors our deceased Lions at a Necrology Service held on Sunday at the District Convention. During this ceremony each Lion’s name is read, a bell is rung, and a flower is placed in a display.
This year we will again have a slide show tribute. This will include a photo of the Lion (an official type of picture or a candid picture of the Lion at a Lions’ function), their name and club, any office they held, and any piece of personal information that they were affectionately known for within their club/community. For example, “Always the first to a meeting”, “The best pancake flipper”. Please forward this information to Lion June Johnson at [email protected] or mail to PO Box
525, Sebago, ME 04029. Photos will be returned.

DAMARISCOTTA – NEWCASTLE LIONS CLUB
On Thursday, November 17th, Marianne
Pinkham, Regional Director for Senior
Spectrum updated our club on the continuing
efforts of this invaluable organization. Serving
the adults of this region for over 40 years, some
remember its start as the Central
Maine Area Agency on Aging.
Today, it strives to connect
generations and remind all that
aging is simply a number. In
Damariscotta, the Coastal
Resource Center is located at 521 Main Street.
“We are at our best when we live, play and work
together across all generations.”
On Saturday, November 19th, our club once
again put on a Vegas event for the residents of
Chase Point, the assisted living facility on the
LincolnHealth campus
in Damariscotta.
Thanks to all the Lions
who participated, the
residents had a great
time and reportedly
told those who didn’t
come down that they
missed something.
