System Objectives• Provide a flexible management information system • Employ a hierarchical structure. • Offer a range of tools and managed objects to enable the

TWACN equipment to be configured, monitored and controlled via accesses from each LA.

• Offer distinct planning, running and analysis phases.• Exchange MIS data with peer MIS systems.• Ensure that access to the MIS and associated data is not

possible by the TWACN subscribers.• Provide a facility for managers to be able to communicate

via e-mail.

Page 3: Management Information System Presentation

MIS Functional Objectives• The functional areas that the management system supports

are:

– Configuration: Related to configuration of the management system, network deployment and subscriber permissions.

– Faults: Related to system supervision, maintenance and logistics.

– Performance: Related to traffic supervision and network efficiency.

– Accounting: Related to statistics about load on the system and third party communications costs.

– Security: Related to network security and information security including audit trail.

Modeling & Simulation Tools

• OPNET is a comprehensive modeling environment

• Employs a three tier hierarchical modeling approach:– Network (Physical Topology)– Node (Module Definition)– Process (Informatics)

Page 12: Management Information System Presentation

Radio Modeler• Accomplishes model using

calculations collected from transmitters, environment, and receiver characteristics.

• Propagation loss algorithms based on Long-Rice models.

• Supports satellite, Line-of-Sight and Omni-directional radio path modeling.

Page 13: Management Information System Presentation

Key Capabilities

• With MIS interface, OPNET can probe existing network for statistics, and produce “as is” models.

• Permits multi-layer modeling to be recorded simultaneously with built in dependencies

• Reports can be published either in text or graphical formats

• Accepts GIS terrain data information that is compliant with DTED formats.
