Manhattan Math Olympiad What: Manhattan Math Olympiad Over twenty years of a tradition of classical math competition, offered by department of mathematics. Solution session and awarding of prizes take place the same day. Website: https://www.math.ksu.edu/K-12/olympiad/ When: K-State Open house day (April) Eligibility: Recommended for grades 5-12 Where: K-State Math Department How to register: No registration is necessary, just show up. The results are announced on the same day in the afternoon.
AMC 8
What: American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 8. Every year, at thousands of schools in every state, more than 350,000 students are presented with a set of questions rich in content, designed to make them think and sure to leave them talking. Website: http://www.maa.org/math-competitions/amc-contests . When: Mid-November. Eligibility: Students up to grade 8. Recommended for grades 5-8. Where: K-State math department hosts an AMC 8 center for all interested students. How to register: In September - October contact the host of the center (Debra Webb, Senior Administrative Assistant, [email protected]) Notes. Also check with your middle school if AMC 8 is offered there.
AMC 10 and 12 What: American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10/12 The main purpose of the AMC 10/12 is to spur interest in mathematics and to develop talent through the excitement of solving challenging problems in a timed multiple-‐choice format. The problems range from the very easy to the extremely difficult. Students who participate in the AMC 10/12 should find that most of the problems are challenging but within their grasp. The contest is intended for everyone from the average student at a typical school who enjoys mathematics to the very best student at the most special school. USA Math Kangaroo Competition What: USA Math Kangaroo competition Math Kangaroo Competition is an international event. Over 24, 000 students participated in the competition in the United States last year. The test is offered in 12 levels. Levels correspond with school grades. Questions are chosen by the International Math Kangaroo Committee. Each student receives a T-‐shirt, a certificate of participation, and a gift in addition to a competition booklet and a pencil on the test day. Website: http://www.mathkangaroo.org/ When: Third Thursday of March. However note that the registration must be completed in December! Eligibility: All students grades 1-12 (The competition is given at different levels). Where: Check at the website of the completion if the tests is offered in Manhattan upcoming year. How to register: Complete registration online by December. The registration fee for 2017 was $20.
Math Marathon What: Math Marathon is a year-long take-home math competition organized for the participants of Math Circle Seminar. Winners are awarded with prizes and certificates.
