Grocery chain supports local community

After a year of construction, Randalls at Quinlan Crossing opens next week. Not only is the grocery chain hiring local work-ers, it is backing local events and organizations, and making every effort to be a “green” neighbor. It will host its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 21 at 8 a.m., prior to opening to the public. Randalls gives a lot of attention to environmen-tal friendliness, said Connie Yates, PR manager for Safeway, parent company of Randalls. To conserve power, Randalls at Quinlan Cross-ing is using compact fluorescent light fixtures, both direct and indirect. Freezers are all using LED lighting. The store landscaping utilizes Texas re-gional and other low-water-use plantings. The store will recycle all of its cardboard and plastics, following the Bee Cave Randalls model in which all other shopping center tenants bring their cardboard to Randalls to be recycled. That program was expanded and now the members of the Lakeway community bring their cardboard to the store on Saturdays. “Randalls wants to be a part of the commu-nity that they serve,” Yates said. On a larger scale,
their contributions to breast cancer awareness are well documented. Locally however, Randalls is al-ready showing it wants to fit into the community it serves. Last summer, Randalls was a small sponsor of the Steiner Ranch Concert in the Park, and will do that again in a much bigger way. They sponsored the recent Run the Ranch event and are the fea-tured speaker at next week’s Four Points Chamber Spotlight luncheon. They are new sponsors of the Steiner Stars Swim Team and the Steiner Ranch Easter Egg Hunt. Artwork from students of Steiner Ranch Elementary will be featured throughout the store during the Grand Opening period. Further, Randalls Good Neighbor Program is designed to link a customer’s Remarkable Card with their charity of choice. The store is providing local jobs including hiring

Following their Spring fund-raising efforts, Grandview Hills Elementary students may have a cooler playground setting by the start of the 2012-2013 school year. The Four Points school’s
faculty, staff, parents and kids joined forces to raise funds for a playground cover by participat-ing in a Boosterthon program which had already proven suc-cessful for staffers and students attending nearby Laura Bush El-ementary. According to Grandview Hills
Elementary School PTA Presi-dent Karin Samman, the pro-gram incorporates leadership training into a nine-day program which educates kids about char-acter development. Additionally, students recruit pledges per lap for a final fun run. “The biggest problem for our
kids is when they go back to school in August and the tem-perature is 110 degrees,” said Samman who is also a pediatri-cian. “There’s no shelter and the children become overheated. There’s no other place for the kids to go.” Prior to the Boosterthon pro-
gram’s final event, the Grand-view Hills PTA had already raised $10,000 towards the total of $30,000 needed for the large outdoor playground cover. “With the budget cuts, there’s absolutely no funding for the

In conjunction with last week’s Shattered Dreams high school presentation, many concerned Four Points parents attended a seminar hosted by Vandegrift High School, the Greater Austin Underage Drinking Prevention Council and the Travis County Sheriff ’s Office on March 8. For Vandegrift parents Sherri and Ben Bailey, the evening dis-cussion was a “must” after their daughter, Mollie, took part in the school’s first Shattered Dreams event. “As parents, we know we need to keep informing ourselves of the issues,” said Sherri. Hundreds of local teens were face to face with what happens in an alcohol-related car crash last week during the Shattered Dreams program at Vandegrift High School. The dramatic re-enactment began in the classroom on Thursday at VHS. Students heard a recorded track of teen-agers crying for help, trapped in a smashed car on the highway. Next, the whole school went to the parking lot where the sim-ulated crash scene was staged, watching as EMS arrived to the very realistic situation. The scenario was that a teen

Homes sales in Four Points continue to heat up. “Compared to the rest of the country, we are doing quite well,” said Tom Radack, Co-Owner Bartlett Real Estate Group, Keller Williams Realty. “The Four Points area contin-ues to draw businesses and the Lakeway Regional Medical Cen-ter will positively affect hous-ing demands in the Four Points area,” Radack said.
The Four Points Area is called River North (RN) in the Multi-ple Listing Service and includes River Place, Steiner Ranch, Long Canyon, Westminster Glen, Glenlake, Greenshores, Grand-view Hills, Shepherd Mountain and areas in-between. In RN for the month of Feb-ruary, there were 199 active list-ings, 71 homes under contract, and 25 homes sales closed. Of those that went under contract, 18 were listed since 2012 began.
Homeowners urged to be Fire Wise

Plans are in the works to find another way out of Steiner Ranch in case of an evacuation, a scenario which occurred dur-ing last year's Labor Day fires. Officials also urge homeowners to do their part to help make lo-cal communities more fire resis-tant. Right now Quinlan Park Road and Steiner Ranch Boule-vard are the two roads leading in and out of Steiner. But Tra-vis County officials are talking about the possibility of mak-ing another road to be used in emergency situations. At least three evacuation routes are being considered and were shared at last week’s Emergency Services meet-ing hosted by Sarah Eckhardt, Travis County Commissioner, Precinct 2, and Jerry Stein, Emergency Services District #6 Commissioner. About 40 people attended the
constituent outreach meeting at Towne Square Community Center on March 8. Most of the attendees were from the Long-horn Village retirement com-munity in Steiner. Four Points residents enjoy the beauty and secluded nature of this area and with that comes the challenges that sometimes it is hard to get in and out of these areas, Eckhardt said. One proposed alternate route being considered is off of Flat Top Ranch Road in Steiner to Montview Drive which would ultimately allow access to RR 620. The route would require
constructing about 200 feet of roadway between Flat Top Ranch Road and Montview Drive, said Natural Resources and Environmental Quality Division of Travis County Pro-gram Manager Rose Farmer “There would be one land owner to work with... That (op-tion) would be quick, cheap, easy,” Farmer said. Another possible route that would not be quick or easy is building a road approximately 6,000 feet along Lake Austin, extending Selma Hughes Park

Steiner Ranch Elementary stu-dents raised $7,000 during their Pay It Forward campaign and do-nated a check to Lake Travis Fire Rescue. “Way to support our com-munity and our local heroes in 2012,” said Amy Rider, SRE PTA President. Jacob Denny and Jake Bow-man made about 45 birdhouses and sold them to raise money for the local firefighters. It started as a scout project. One of the achievements that the Bear Scout can pick is to make a birdhouse. “They worked very hard in mass producing the bird houses,” said Sandra Denny, Jacob’s mom. Jacob used recycled wood from another project and Bow-man used pieces of wood from their old fence. They started making the birdhouses in early February and finished up in two weekends. Then they piled them in a wagon and took them door to door selling them for $10 each. It took three days to sell them all. “They really had fun selling them, even in the rain,” Sandra said. Each boy contributed around $225 to SRE’s Pay It Forward pro-gram.

The day you register your child for school is an important day. It marks the beginning of your son’s or daughter’s official educational journey and is the first of many steps he or she will take in becoming a successful, contributing member of society. In Leander ISD, we celebrate this day with an event called Registration Round Up. Already looking ahead to the next school year, LISD is holding its 2012 Pre-Kindergarten and Kinder-garten Registration Round Up on Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at all elementary campuses. If you have a child who will begin school next year, you are encouraged to participate in Registration Round Up at the school your child is zoned to at-tend next fall and get a taste of
what you can expect. Come meet your child’s soon-to-be principal and other students he or she may have in class and tour the school. Registration is ongoing in LISD, so if you cannot make it to Registration Round Up, please register your son or daughter as soon as possible prior to Au-gust 1. (Visit the LISD website for a list of the eligibility re-quirements and documentation needed for registration.) If you do not know which school your child will attend next year, you may call the LISD Transporta-tion office at 570-0700, or enter your address into Transfinder on the LISD website (select the Parents/Students tab, and then Transfinder) to find out. Starting school for the first time can be nerve-wracking for students and parents alike. After all, Kindergarten has changed
a lot over the last 20-30 years, since we were in it ourselves. I often hear that parents want to know if their child has the skills necessary to be successful in Kindergarten. In the weeks leading up to LISD’s Pre-K and Kinder-garten Regis-tration Round Up, I will be offering a few tips parents can use at home to prepare for their child’s transition. One of the most beneficial things a parent can do to help prepare their child for school is reading to them every day. Read-ing aloud to your children helps build their vocabulary, develop their comprehension, stimulate their imagination, broaden their
knowledge and strengthenlistening skills. The time you spend reading with your child is enriching, quality time that bonds you together over a good
story. It also promotes litera-cy by modeling the simple plea-sure reading. (Visit Reading is Fundamental at www.rif.org for more infor-mation about
the value of reading to your child.) Beyond reading to children, at Registration Round Up, par-ents are given a checklist that covers some basic Kindergarten readiness skills. This checklist includes scissor skills: holding, opening and closing child-sized scissors, guiding paper with his
or her other hand, cutting close to lines on paper; functioning in the classroom: properly holding a crayon, using multiple colors and showing detail, staying on task for five minutes, using a proper “indoor voice” and fol-lowing multi-step directions; name writing and recognition: writing his or her name using correct capitalization, staying within the lines, using proper spacing between letters, forming letters appropriately, and being able to pick his or her name out of a group; and self help skills: buttoning, zipping and snapping his or her own clothes and open-ing all items in his or her lunch box. Along with the checklist, the district provides some help-ful strategies parents can work on with their children to im-prove their skills in these areas. If your child is bound for
Kindergarten next year and is not yet an ace at these skills, do not worry. Our teachers are pre-pared to welcome Kindergarten students with a wide variety of skills and needs. Kindergarten teachers have the most reward-ing job of any educator, in my opinion. They warmly greet ev-ery single student who walks in their classrooms and patiently work with students to help them improve. Regardless of how pre-pared students are when they begin the year, by June, Kinder-garten students will be ready for first grade. Next week we’ll delve into some of the learning objectives parents can expect their child to cover while in Kindergarten. Have a great Spring Break!

A year after clearing, prepping and building, Randalls will open within days to a much anticipated community. Next Wednesday, doors open to thou-sands of local families giving an-other option in grocery shopping. The new 60,000-square-foot Randalls supermarket will feature a Starbucks, full-service meat and seafood departments, expanded produce, and natural and organic offerings. It will have a wine tast-ing bar and on-site wine steward to help customers with pairings. Randalls has been knitting it-self into the community and mak-ing an impact already, months be-fore opening. Last summer, Randalls sponsored the Steiner Ranch Concert in the Park and plans to be a bigger sponsor at this year’s event in August. They helped bring the recent Run the Ranch to the community and are sponsoring the Steiner Stars Swim Team, the Steiner Ranch Easter Egg Hunt, and will showcase artwork from students of Steiner Ranch Elementary. Randalls is embracing the community it serves by backing these local events. It was just last April when groundbreak-ing took place among bulldozers, cranes and dump trucks when 70 community members, Randalls and Property Devel-opment Centers executives and staff, and Four Points Chamber of Commerce mem-bers were at the groundbreaking event held on the spot Randalls is today. (see photo below) PDC bought the 60-acre site from Taylor Woodrow Communities in early 2010. The shopping center itself sits on approximately
15 acres and the remaining 45 acres will re-main natural and undisturbed. Randalls is part of the 137,681-square-foot, mixed-use Quinlan Crossing shop-
ping center. Great Clips and the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf are two of the other tenants about to open at Quinlan Crossing. “This represents many years of hard work,” said Jim Reuter, PDC Vice President of Development, in an earlier in-terview. PDC is developing the project and is a subsidiary of Safeway Inc, which is Randalls’ parent. The project went through the approval process through city,
county and utility entities taking the better part of a year to complete. Randalls has been in Austin since 1972 and currently operates 13 stores in greater Austin. “This is continuing the vision of the original plans of Steiner Ranch, a master planned community where we live, work, shop and play,” said Robert Long, Director of Development Taylor Woodrow Com-munities/Steiner Ranch LLC, Steiner’s de-veloper. This is the first Texas project for Califor-nia-based PDC. “They say everything is bigger and better in Texas, so this is a good place to showcase our newest lifestyle store,” Reuter said. Randalls picked no better place than the thriving Four Points area to feature its latest store. Welcome Randalls! After watching the outside being built for a year, we can’t wait to see what the inside looks like!

Dear Editor, I see where you have several comments from people, but none who oppose the bag ban. I am a volunteer foster care giver for Austin Siamese Rescue. Cats come and go thru the program regularly and we volunteers fos-ter them in our homes for periods of time. We count on the supply
of bags from retailers like Target, Walmart, H-E-B, for use in dispos-ing of litter box contents on a daily basis. Are we now supposed to:1) no longer have bags available?2) incur additional costs and pay for these bags, or a set of bags, as de-scribed in the article?3) can we solicit donations of bags
or money to cover these new loom-ing costs? Let's punish and expense the consumers who regularly RECY-CLE these bags, is that it?

Leslee Bassman’s article in Four Points News’ March 1 edition on Leander ISD launching a new licensing program that will affect the sales of spirit wear and oth-er items is capturing attention. Her article was also printed in the Hill Country News and a couple of readers posted their opinions about the story on HillCountryNews.com: One reader posted:“This makes no sense. Right now, 100% of what PTA's make stay at LISD schools. By doing this, some of the profit PTA's make will go to this licensing company and some has likely already gone to a lawyer to trademark the logos. Why redirect funds raised by a PTA for a school to a licensing company and law firm? How does this help our schools?On top of that, why alienate LISD volunteers by making their already difficult job of fundraising more difficult?This seems like a bad fiscal and PR decision on the part of LISD”. Another reader commented:
"Skoviera said LISD has been discussing the need to trademark its identifying marks for more than five years and closely studying the SABRE licensing pro-gram for about a year. Hutto ISD has already instituted the licensing procedure. Has Hutto ISD reaped serious rewards from its li-censing? Skoviera is behind LISD’s similar efforts to protect the district’s logos from potential misuse by unlicensed parties. SABRE will perform the licensing actions, monitor the program and pursue violators. So, no one has found any *actual* misuse of the lo-gos? And even if there were, wouldn't it be far more cost-effective to handle them on a case-by-case basis?LISD's logos are not *that* sought-after, folks. This seems like someone solving a problem that doesn't ac-tually exist. When that happens, you can usually follow a money trail to find the real reasons behind a decision.Of course, we don't have all the facts. Maybe there are good reasons for going this route.”
In last week’s edition (March 8), the Four Points News included Steiner Ranch busi-nesses within the jurisdiction of Austin City Council’s new Single-Use Bag Ordinance. Several readers brought to our attention the fact that Steiner Ranch, as an Extraterritori-al Jurisdiction of Austin, may not be bound by the new regulation. Ruth Pitkin of Steiner Ranch asked: “How can the City Council of Austin pass a plastic bag ban and have it affect the Four Points area? We have no representation on the
Austin City Council. It would be taxation without representation.” Four Points News sought clarification on this point from Austin Resource Recovery’s Senior Public Information Specialist, Jenni-fer Herber, who responded that “The Single-Use Bag Ordinance is only for businesses/retailers in the City of Austin limits, not the ETJ”. The Bag Ban does affect other communi-ties in Four Points.

iff ’s Office will participate in a selective traffic enforcement program (STEP) grant for Driving While Intoxicated offenses. This grant is offered by the Texas Department of Transportation (TX-DOT) and will allow the Sheriff ’s Office to put additional Deputies on the road during that time specifically looking for impaired drivers. In addition to increasing its presence to seek
out impaired drivers, TCSO is asking for anyone who sees an impaired driver to report it by calling 911. Together, the number of impaired drivers can be reduced and lives saved on Texas roadways. The office is getting the word out that: alcohol related accidents are preventable and “buzzed driving” is drunk driving. If you drink, don’t drive. Don’t be a statistic.

Steiner Ranch leads in units sold but declined from 301 to 286, for 2010 and 2011, respective-
ly. The average price decreased from an average $425,808 to $419,304 but price per square foot increased from $125 to $129. For February, there were 84 active listings, 35 under contract, and 15 were closed. River Place units sold increased from 42 to 76, for 2010 and 2011. The average price increased from $496,524 to $585,726 and the price per square foot also increased from $134 to $153. For February, there were 27 active listings, 11 more under contract and 4 sold, research shows. Home sales in Austin and Central Texas con-tinue to show a steady increase over 2011. In gen-eral, job growth is continuing in the high tech, educational, service and medical sectors, real es-tate professionals indicate. “Considering the life style, shopping, quality schools, positive business environment in Four Points, and less available land for new construc-tion, demands for resale housing will increase,” Radack said.

The Austin Police Depart-ment is seeking the public’s assistance in locating two sus-pects wanted for impersonating law enforcement officers and at-tempting to get money from a victim. At this time, APD is aware of one incident where an elderly female was contacted by phone by someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer. While she was on the phone with this person, another suspect claim-ing to be law enforcement showed up at her residence. The suspect produced a badge and took the victim to her bank. Additionally Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the local Underage Drinking Pre-vention Council gave presenta-tions in the school’s gymnasium following the Shattered Dreams program held earlier in the day. “The crash happens because the teen has been drinking,” said Wilk of the Shattered Dreams accident scenario, “but there are a lot of steps to get to that point and that’s what we’re going to talk about tonight. Who gave them (teens) the alcohol?” According to the evening’s panelists, a situation involving a parent providing alcohol to minors at home does not alter the danger involved in under-age drinking. A MADD bro-chure states that “one in three high school seniors said it was easy to get (alcohol) from their own consenting parents” and “two out of five said it was easy to get (alcohol) from a friend’s parents”. Furthermore, through social host liability laws, adults can be held responsible for host-ing an underage drinking party, whether they know the drinking is going on or not, as long as it is held on property they own or rent. Vandegrift parents were sur-prised to learn that consequenc-es can be applied to adult hosts if they are away from their home when their teen son or daughter hosts a party or even if they are present but deny knowing that underage kids were drinking in or around their home. According to TABC’s Lewis, a teen that is at a party where kids are drinking alcohol but is not drinking, can be taken to jail and “everyone can get a citation”. Additionally, a teen who gives another teen alcohol can also be
liable for the consequences. The statistics produced by the program’s panelists were stag-gering. Wilk stated that one in five teens binge drink and three in four teens have tried alcohol outside their home before grad-uating high school. For today’s teens and college students, binge drinking, drinking games such as beer pong, and consuming beverages with a high alcohol content or combination of caf-feine and alcohol have increased the risk for alcohol poisoning among young people. “What seems like it’s no big thing, a ‘rite of passage’, well, things have changed,” Lewis said. “There’s a big difference at the way kids look at this stuff now. They try to see who can guzzle the most amount (of alcohol) in the least amount of time.” “In Texas, we’ve seen an in-crease in the number of under-age drinkers who have ended up in hospitals or dead,” Wilk said. “The difference today is they’re drinking drinks with more alco-hol per volume and they rarely recognize how much they’ve drunk”. Handouts from various agen-cies provided information rang-ing from techniques available to begin a conversation with a teen about drugs and alcohol to Tex-as’ new 911 Lifeline Law which grants limited immunity to kids who call for help if a friend who has been drinking appears to be in danger. Vandegrift Assistant Princi-pal John Sloan, who provided the school’s stance on underage drinking and drugs, informed parents that acts involving un-derage drinking or drugs at VHS or within 300 feet of the school will send the student to the dis-trict’s Leander Extended Op-
portunity Center for 45 days as set by the Leander ISD School Board. During that time, the stu-dent will not be allowed on any LISD campuses and will be pro-hibited from participating in any extracurricular activities such as band or sports. “The key is to listen to the teen’s response,” said Lewis, who is the parent of a teenage girl. “They (teens) want to be heard. Start a dialogue and listen to what your teens say.”

Earlier this month, three of the 12 finalists from the 3rd An-nual Vandegrift High School Band Solo Competition won scholarships during a Finals Concert performance at the VHS Performing Arts Center. Senior Mitch Stipek (marimba) won $500, junior Craig Wolf (trumpet) won $250, and senior Moriah Gonzalez (euphonium) won $150. Another 16 band stu-dents were recognized as “Hon-orable Mention” awardees. VHS Band Director Jeremy Spicer said, “Congratulations to the winners of our 3rd Annual Solo Competition. It was an unbeliev-able night of music making!” The scholarships were pro-vided by the VHS Band Boost-ers, a non-profit organization whose mission is to benefit the VHS band students. Finalist stu-dents will receive points toward obtaining their high school letter jacket. Nearly all VHS band stu-
dents and their parents were in attendance as well as private mu-sic instructors and band direc-tors from neighboring schools. The Finals Concert also fea-tured a guest artist, Dr. Martin McCain on trombone. Spicer said each student finalist was given the opportunity to work with the guest artist. Each year, the guest artist participates in all finalist student rehearsals and will perform at the conclusion of the Finals Concert. McCain is a founding member of the highly acclaimed, award-winning jazz trombone ensemble, JazzBonez, as well as a successful touring soloist, chamber musician and founding member of the Minor 4th Trombone Quartet. McCain was accompanied by his wife on piano and together their perfor-mance was electrifying, sources say. During the week of Feb. 20 the band students competed with each other for final placement. From over 160 performances, 12 finalists were selected to com-
pete for the $500 top prize. Solo Competition Finalists of 2012 include Jenni Abbarno, Kristen Abbarno, Rhea Adhikary, Sa-brina Cheshire, Calvin Geng, Moriah Gonzalez, Caitlin Hall, Rachael Klein, Kelly Schriner, Mitch Stipek, Brian Wolf, and Craig Wolf. The stretch is owned by about five landown-ers including City of Austin, a private individual and Steiner Ranch. To build a road there would require working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, federal regulators and Balcones Canyonlands Preserve officials to name a few. Another option is to build a bridge across a low water area at Murfin Road across from Zen Gardens Way in Steiner Ranch, which would get resi-dents from Steiner across Lake Austin. But one caution on all of these ideas is that there is no way to know what direction a fire could come from if a blaze similar to the September fires hit the area, Eckhardt said. “Everything is on the table right now,” Farmer said. “But really evacuation is secondary compared to what each home owner can do.” “With our extreme topogra-phy, it is expensive and time in-volved (to build roads). We are looking for some more imme-diate solutions,” said John Dur-ham, Assistant Fire Chief, Fire Prevention Division, Commu-nity Emergency Preparedness Planner, LTFR. One relatively simple solu-tion is having “phased evacu-ations” where not everyone leaves at the same time, officials say. Safe Areas are another way to protect people through des-ignating pre-identified areas that can provide shelter and protection during an emergen-
cy, Durham said. That is what was done with Longhorn Village where Travis County Sheriff ’s Office, EMS and fire officials were there to support the retirement com-munity, which ran off of elec-tricity from generators. As previously announced by Four Points News, Travis County is increasing its com-munication efforts to include social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to help get accurate information out during an emergency. Another possible idea to warn the public of high fire danger may be to fly a warning flag at the community entranc-es, officials said. Other safety tips include having a NOAA Weather Ra-dio All Hazards which the Na-tional Weather Service used to give evacuation routes during the Bastrop fires. Another tool is registering to get Reverse 911 calls to be notified in an emer-gency. More Fire Wise communi-ties can be created to encourage homeowners to clear the brush near their homes that could fuel fires. “We need people in Steiner to do that on their own prop-erty,” Farmer said. Building rock pillars into wooden fences ever so often is another tip since wooden fenc-es serve as a wick to a home if a fires starts in the green belt. Another tip is putting screens on soffits at the roof line so em-bers cannot be drawn in, Farm-er said. “We are trying to think out-side the box to help protect the community,” Durham said.

Pledge money is due to the school by March 20, at which time Board members will determine if enough funds have been collected to move for-ward with the playground plans. About half of the monies pledged will go towards the cover, with the remainder paying admin-istrative expenses, t-shirts and event costs.

It showed the teen who was driv-ing under the influence of alco-hol being arrested, the coroner taking away the dead, EMS using the Jaws of Life on the car, and the injured loaded into EMS am-
bulances and helicopters. The Shattered Dreams pro-gram is designed to educate stu-dents about the dangers associ-ated with drinking and driving. On Thursday, about 80 VHS students were pulled from class every 15 minutes to represent state law enforcement’s statis-tic that one person is killed in a drunk driving accident in Texas every 15 minutes. They were to represent one person every 15 minutes being killed in a drunk driving incident in Texas. The students received black cloaks, white faces and held a cross, and could not speak or be spoken to for the rest of the school day. Family death notifications were made to parents. The following day, Travis County hosted an assembly at VHS where videos of actual drunk driving victims and par-ents of victims were profiled. Law enforcement wanted to produce a dramatic and serious teaching tool for the students. Max Bernhardt, a VHS fresh-man, attended the Friday assem-bly and said, “It was very dark in places. They did a good job tell-ing the story of the survivors of the crash, some were paralyzed, and also of the parents of all the crash victims.” “Only one school per year in Travis County is selected,” said VHS Principal Charlie Little.
