February 20, 2013 Ann Kopp Today our Leadership Dickinson group went to Bismarck to spend the day at the capital. We were able to tour the building, speak

with our local Senator, (Rich Wardner) and sit in on a legislative session. Sitting on the floor with the Senators and House members

was very educational. We learned about, and saw first hand the process of passing bills in our state.

Local manufactured home retailer, Heartland Village has received the “2012 Largest Single Lot Retailer” award by Redman Homes at the 2013 Manufactured Housing Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Being recognized on a national level, shines the light on how small, local companies are building strong communities by providing quality and affordable housing in one of the largest housing and economic booms in the country.

“Heartland Village has done an extraordinary job representing Redman Homes in Western North Dakota. We appreci-ate everything they’ve done and we look forward to a continuing partnership between our companies. Our companies are committed to high quality, affordable manufactured housing in western North Dakota.” - Jim Lashbrook

Heartland Village has been operating its manufactured home community in Dickinson for 15 years, and recently com-pleted construction of brand new, state-of-the-art playground, basketball and volleyball courts for its residents’ enjoy-ment.

“We are proud of being a local company. Heartland Village has been a part of Dickinson before this oil boom and we’ll be here long after. This award validates our dedication to providing high quality affordable housing. We couldn’t have done it without the continuing support of our community and our employees.” - Valarie Fugett, Manager, Heartland Village.

Rasmussen College, a leader in post-secondary higher education, announced a tuition reduction that will save students thousands of dollars and help decrease student debt upon graduation. In an effort to continuously provide students with the best college investment possible, Rasmussen College is lowering tuition costs an average of 12 percent nationally for full-time students. Depending on each student’s location and program, this reduction can be up to 24 percent. The re-gionally accredited College has not increased tuition since 2010.

Rasmussen College is also locking in tuition rates for students who are continuously enrolled. The guarantee of a consis-tent cost per credit will help students understand and plan for the total cost of their degrees. It is also an incentive for students to stay enrolled, a critical element in on-time graduation, which also helps minimize education debt. The new tuition structure was developed to help students maximize the value of their academic investment and was made possible through reductions in the College’s over all operating expenses.

This past fall Rasmussen College announced plans to open two new campuses in Topeka and Overland Park, Kansas. Both locations are scheduled to begin classes in spring 2013.

To learn more about the Rasmussen College tuition reduction, student support services, and career placement go to www.Rasmussen.edu/FACT.

A prime benefit for Chamber members is the opportunity to network with other members, and networking, of course, helps members expand their world of customers and suppliers. BAH, a program of the Promotions Committee of the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, is an after-work networking event that provides members a forum to connect with one another and promote their businesses.

On the second Tuesday of each month Business After Hours is hosted by a sponsoring Chamber member organization. The event is held on-site at the sponsor's location, providing that sponsor unparalleled exposure to the Chamber member-ship and community at large. There is no cost to attend this event.

LOCAL CHARM carries Dickinson’s largest inventory of Pride of Dakota products and it is moving downtown! An enterprise developed by RSVP+ Dakota West, Local Charm was originally located at the T-Rex Mall and carried POD food products as well as locally made arts and crafts pieces. When the RSVP+ office relocated to a commercial office building in 2011, space was limited and the arts and crafts side of the business was shut down. RSVP+ North Dakota is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to invite individuals of all ages to enhance personal growth, develop leadership skills, and meet critical community needs through meaningful volunteer service opportunities. Each of North Dakota’s six offices has the autonomy that allows them to focus on creat-ing solutions to challenges specific to their local community. Your Dakota West office, through Local Charm, is excited to be playing an even greater role in community development by being part Dickinson’s downtown revitalization. We are proud to announce that our new office space will be located at 31 1st St West. Directly across the street from the American Bank Center, Local Charm will be part of a two- block span that is the home to Schwartz’s Allstate Insurance Agency, Queen City Barber Shop, Stix n’ Twigs Cafe, Faith Expressions Christian Store, The Old Tobacco Shop, and Lillians. Local Charm is set up to be run entirely by volunteers from the community. In addition, we are working with DSU graduate Josh Nichols and business major Arthur Nunez to create opportunities for our university busi-ness, accounting and marketing students to have hands-on experience in all aspects of retail management. Best of all, our new venue allows us to once again support North Dakota artists. Beginning with award-winning watercolor artist and new Dickinson resident Alisha Whitman, different artists from our region will be featured throughout the year. To kick off each show you will be invited to come join in the celebration, meet the artist, enjoy some Pride of Dakota products, and check out this exciting neighborhood.
