March 22nd, 2015 * Fifth Sunday of Lent
“NOTHING IS FAR FROM GOD!”
ST. MONICA PRAYED AND WEPT WITH HOPE FOR
THE CONVERSION OF HER HUSBAND AND SON FOR 30 YEARS!
St. Monica Parish was founded in 2013 by Bishop David
Zubik. The clergy and people of four parishes, represent-
ing eight previous parishes, bravely accepted the call of
the Bishop to cooperate as people of faith in the power of
the Holy Spirit to Build a Church that is Alive! Christ has
asked this parish to be born so that the Faith may continue
to be proclaimed and lived in the upper Beaver Valley.
The Holy Eucharist has been praised and adored in this
area since 1854. St. Monica Parish with the assistance of
our Patroness, and her son St. Augustine, will continue to
spread the Catholic faith and to be the light of Christ to all
that we meet.

ST. MONICA ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH A Continuous Catholic Presence Since 1854

Lord's Peace Saint Monica parish, Lent is a difficult time, or at least it feels this way to many Christians. For 40 days Jesus was tested in the desert, and often many experience a period of desolation or increased temptation during lent. If you are struggling to sustain your lenten promises it means that you have chosen wisely, so don't give up! A special thank you for being patient with the revised Sunday Mass schedule. The 4pm vigil and the 10:45am Masses are packed like Christmas, which is a problem most parishes are happy to have once a year, and a problem that we are blessed to have each weekend. If you attend either of these Masses and feel that they are too crowed there are 4 other Masses with room. The Perpetual Adoration Chapel is now dedicated to St. Joseph. This past week the parish cele-brated the Solemnity of St. Joseph with a parish mission and the dedication of the Chapel to the foster father of Jesus. If you haven't visited the Adoration Chapel please take a minute to visit with Our Lord or be spiritually brave and schedule one hour a week with Him.
Peace of Christ,

Dear Fellow Parishioners, Benjamin Laderer, a seventh grader at Saint Monica Catho-lic Academy, has been awarded the 2015 Ben Carson Scholarship. With this honor, Ben will receive a $1,000 scholarship award that will be invested for his college edu-cation. This is quite an accomplishment-this year’s pool of applicants was larger and more competitive than in previ-ous years which has made Ben stand out as an exemplary student and role model. Ben is one of 6,700 gifted students from across the country that have been named as Carson Scholars. ADDIONALLY, Ashley Mineard qualified as a 2015 Recognized Carson Scholar. Ashley was previously honored as a scholarship awardee and will now receive a commemo-rative pin and certificate to acknowledge her continued aca-demic and humanitarian achievements. These two students’ academic achievements and service to their communities are what makes them stand out as future leaders. Ben & Ashley will be honored in front of their families, peers, and educators at the Carson Scholarship Fund Annual Pittsburgh Awards Banquet on Sunday, May 24, at Heinz Field. Our heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Ben & Ash-ley. We sincerely could not be prouder of them! Parker Murphy, a fourth grader at Saint Monica Catholic Academy, has become a “founding member” of the newly launched Beaver Valley Choral Society Youth Chorale. The Beaver Valley Choral Society is a Christian faith-based, non-denominational, non-auditioned adult community coral arts organization founded over 80 years ago in Western PA. Parker is part of the youth choir that is opened to inter-ested singers ages 7-15. Way to go Parker! We are currently taking orders for Easter Flowers and Chestnut Hill Candles. The candles will be delivered for Mothers’ Day. Anyone interested can call the school. Also, for all you fit and athletic individuals, we are sponsoring a 5K on Saturday May 30, for Darlington Days. To register, please call the school for a registration form. You still have time to enjoy a great meal at the Fish Dinner on Friday and try to catch the last “Living Stations” presented by our stu-dents in grades 3-8 at 7:00 pm in the church. There is a “Paddle Party” scheduled for Saturday, March 28, in Foun-ders Hall. Proceeds benefit our Academic Games National Qualifiers. It’s a great way to support our students while enjoying a “fast paced Chinese Auction meets Bingo,” lots of vendors and a great concession stand. I sincerely thank everyone for their support and patronage at this years’ Fish Dinners. The great success goes beyond the monetary profit. The more important profit that I have witnessed over these weeks is the tremendous comradery between the Church & school. It really is exciting, and as Father says, to be a part of and living in this miracle that we call Saint Monica Parish and School. As we continue to count our blessings, I Thank you for your continued sup-port of your parish school and, God Bless Mr. Brad Diamond, Principal
