Negro Sentenced Guilty

The extensive trial of Mayella Ewell against Tom Robinson, who was accused of committing assault and rape against the accuser, finally ended after the jury pleaded him guilty. Never before in the history of Maycomb County had there been a trial against a Negro that ever lasted this long. Citizens are beginning to question the “truth” behind a possibly deceptive figure.

Atticus Finch, attorney of Tom Robinson, still held his head high after his client was recently sentenced guilty of committing assault and rape against the offender, Mayella Ewell. Due to no dependable medical evidence of rape and no justifiable affirmations of criminal activity committed by Tom Robinson towards the accuser, Atticus believes there is still hope.

“It would be too bold to say we had a good chance of winning, but I believe several minds were in agreement back there. I won’t give up defending Tom until the very end,” stated Atticus, minutes after the trial.

Several unpleased Negro folks claimed the prosecutor feared the worst could happen—a Negro winning against a case. The prosecutor, himself, denied any of such sort and, instead, stated a white man’s word was always true.

It is believed that: when it’s a white man’s word against a black man’s, the white man always wins; but the slightest chance for a new beginning was witnessed within the courtroom as the jury took up to hours before they were able to directly convict Tom Robinson guilty.

“We’re making a step—it’s just a baby step, but it’s a step,” declared Maudie Atkinson, on behalf of Maycomb’s community that was against prejudice.

Bob Ewell, father of the accusor, Mayella Ewell, believes, “It sure was a waste of time for that old Atticus to defend the Nigger. It raped my Mayella and he’s still defending him.”

Whether Tom Robinson or a deceptive figure is the true criminal behind the unlawful acts against Mayella Ewell, the answers are not certain based upon the previous trial where Tom Robinson was convicted guilty. As to whether an upcoming trial will be held, additional evidence must be gathered in order to fully evaluate the premises.

Q: Dear M, I live in a neighborhood filled with crazy flower breeders. I traveled outside Maycomb last month and I found a new type of flower I’ve never seen in the county, so I decided to plant its seeds here this summer. I was worried the rest of the folks would get jealous and hate me if I had the best garden in town! What should I do? –Troubled MindA: Hi Troubled Mind. I think you should go ahead and plant those new flowers and perhaps even have the most beautiful flower garden in the county. I believe it is a good opportunity for the trapped minds to realize they should explore the outside world and see things differently for once. A new flower could be a door to a new perspective. – M

Q: Dear Y, I’m so tired of working in a farm where my boss always verbally abuses me, but I can’t leave either because I have no other job and I have two additional mouths to feed and on top of that, I have a criminal record from a few years back, so no one else would take me. Any advice? – RobertA: Good afternoon Robert. This is a very complex mess you have got yourself into. The only advices I could give you is that try to tolerate him for a while longer, as he is still hiring you to do work when no one else is. Secondly, I am not so sure if it is possible in your case as I do not have sufficient information on your background, but I would advise you to work hard in finding other jobs, such as cutting trees, or carrying heavy loads, or other fields of work that don’t require signing contracts or digging up information on your history. (I don’t mean to offend you in any way with the jobs I mentioned above). Good Luck! – Y

Q: Dear Y, I have an issue with my weight. I think I’m overweight. My husband says I need to lose a few pounds because my face is becoming too round and he’s embarrassed to have me accompany him to places. –Maggie OzA: Hi Maggie Oz. I believe women should never feel bad about their looks. Whatever makes you happy you should do it—whether it’s stuffing your face with a pound of chocolate cake or five plates of spaghetti meatballs. Your husband should love you unconditionally and worry more about your health than how you may appear to others. He should always accompany you, instead of you accompany him. –Y

Bob Ewell, Father of Recent Victim, Found Dead

Bob Ewell, the father of recent trial victim, was reported dead near the forests of Maycomb elementary with a knife stuck up under his ribs. Head of Police Department of Maycomb, Officer Heck Tate, confirms the cause of death.“He stumbled upon a big root and fell on top of his own knife. Thank the Lord the Finch children weren’t in worse shape,” stated Officer Heck Tate.

The Officer further explains that Bob Ewell wandered around the woods after the Maycomb Elementary School play in order to attack Jem and Scout Finch, but as to why, it is still unsure, and the police department will continue investigating on the case. Scout was unharmed, Jem ended up with a broken arm, and Bob Ewell dead.Although exact reasons as to why Bob Ewell decided to attack Jem and Scout Finch are still uncertain, it is speculated that the attack was due to a recent trial where Atticus Finch, father of Jem and Scout Finch, was the defender of Tom Robinson, a Negro man convicted of assault and rape. It is a shame that personal matters were directed towards those who had nothing to do with it. Instead of Bob Ewell settling issues between Atticus directly, he decided to settle things out through Atticus’s children instead. “It was really dark, and I couldn’t see anything. I heard Jem hollering and then some weird sound—it was his arm; it broke,” stated Scout Finch. The ones who got hurt the most from the event was neither Scout, nor Jem Finch, but Atticus Finch instead. Bob Ewell must have thought the best way to hurt Atticus was through his children, and he was right, but before things could get worse, the situation backfired and he got himself killed.
