There were four days when twen ty - th ree of the squadron ' s plane* went a lof t , one 'being downed lor normal main-tenance .

On J a n u a r y nrst VMF-223 had only t h r ee a i r c r a f t . Twen ty -one newly overhauled "Corsa i r s " were ass igned f rom Norfolk and com-pletely gone over with 12<»-hour checks by the Engineer ing Depar t -ment within the six-week 'period p r io r «o depa r tu re for Pue r to Rico ' T h e squadron flew 98C." h o u r s in c o m b j t flights and 52S> between Cherry Point and Roosevelt Roads , to ta l ing lj>22 hours of flight t ime for . the month .

E n r o u t e t o the Caribbean t rom Cherry Point twenty- two p lanes reached thei r des t inat ion on sched-ule . T w o were delayed a couple of days in Miami for minor r epa i r s . Homeward bound, all t w e n t y - f o u r landed toge ther at Cher ry Point on March . 14.
