The threat of fi re is an ever-present part of modern wind farm operations. A lightning strike, sparks from moving parts, an oil leak – all can cause a serious fi re. By the time emergency crews reach the site, the damage is already done. A fi re can result in up to 12 months of downtime* and the total loss of the wind turbine.

The antidote is HI-FOG®, a modern and effective fi re suppression system that uses the world’s most environmentally friendly fi re-fi ghting agent: potable water. HI-FOG® uses small amounts of water to create a fi ne water mist that pene-trates fi re very effi ciently, cooling the surrounding

air and blocking radiant heat. The fi re is suppressed before it can spread. The HI-FOG® system can provide complete wind farm fi re protection: wind turbines (nacelles), substa-tions and communication trenches.

Fully optimized ! re

This dual system promptly detects any incipient fi re by using the latest fi re and smoke detection technology. The detection system auto-matically discharges water mist or nitrogen, depending on where the fi re starts. The result is fast and effective fi re protection for the entire wind turbine nacelle.

Elegant installation in the tight spaces of nacelles.

HI-FOG® water mist attacks fi re in the nacelle with high-velocity plumes of water mist which instantly suppress the fi re, attenuating the radiant heat and reducing the tempe-rature while displacing the oxygen. A small gas unit is added for protecting the closed electrical cabinet within the nacelle.

Marioff offers compact HI-FOG® water mist units speci! cally designed for wind turbine nacelles. Special HI-FOG® spray heads are installed over the machinery in the nacelle to achieve uniform mist coverage for the entire space.

HI-FOG® accumulator unit solutionThis solution is a completely self-contained system that does not need an external water or power supply. It comprises a water mist unit equipped with water cylin-ders that are powered by a pressurized nitrogen cyl-inder. It also has a gas unit consisting of one nitrogen cylinder and a release valve.

Upon activation, the water mist discharges through the spray heads for the designed suppression time. Simultaneously, the gas unit discharges into the electrical cabinet until it is depleted.

The system is available in different sizes to optimize space usage in the nacelle. Depending on environmen-tal conditions, insulation and heating systems can also be provided.

HI-FOG® modular electric pump unit solutionThis solution features a modular design allowing customized installation in nacelles of different types and sizes.

It extends the suppression time of the water mist unit. The water mist unit consists of an electric motor, a water tank, and a high-pressure pump which activates when a fi re is detected. The electric pump unit is also equipped with a nitrogen cylinder and release valve for the control cabinet.
