you are here. is an attempt to reconnect the VIA Rail Station with historic Pier 21, Canada’s

immigration hub during the 20th century. Situated in front of Pier 21, the user climbs a

ramp leading to a windowless room. A camera obscura projects the image of the VIA

Rail Station on a curved wall, the user standing between past and present.

expo ‘67 german pavilion(case study)

This case study was based in the principles of the free plan, and the architecture associated

with it. Frei Otto’s tensile structure was the focus of much analysis, with a major emphasis

being placed on the structural masts which elevated the roof structure over one city

block. Through modelling, sketching, and drawing, a greater understanding of

tensegrity and grid shells was formed.

A case study of the Dr. Norman Fisher House, designed by Louis I. Kahn from 1960 - 1967.

Located in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, the case study focused on material, grain, structure,

and relation to site. Integrated with the b3 representation course, axonometric drawings

were the basis for much of the analysis.

the 4th element

the 4th element was a design build project for the B2 technology class. The idea was

based on Gottfried Semper’s four elements of architecture: floor, wall, roof, and hearth. Ten pieces had to be used in the assembly of the

lamp: one concrete base, two structuralwooden members, three envelope pieces,

a switch, a socket, a bulb, and a plug. With the design intention of economy of means,

the lamp is a re-imagining of the carpenters trouble light. Though impractical for use on the job site, the lamp can hold it’s place in an

urban household, or industrial loft setting.

lunenburg waterfront(master plan)

An urban development for the Lunenburg Waterfront. Currently a parking lot, our

Master Plan created 12 different live/work buildings with parking, boardwalks, public gather spaces, and extended the existing

waters edge by approximately 715 feet. The fabric scheme drew from the typology of the

waterfront buildings as well as the urban landscape on the hill.

the bridge house is a response to the Master Plan for the Lunenburg Waterfront. Tasked with creating a live/work space, the house

emphasises the divide between public/private, and exemplifies the theories of

served/servant, and order of rooms/order of machines. As a modernization of an old form,

the bridge house celebrates the material culture of Lunenburg with modern methods of

wood construction.

hydrostone communityclimbing centre

Located in the historic Hydrostone District of Halifax, NS, the Hydrostone Community Climbing Centre is a multi-purpose facility promoting trust, inclusion, and knowledge

sharing. The climbing facility rising out of the ground is a symbol for the Hydrostone itself,

a neighbourhood rising out of the ashes of the explosion of 1917. The vertical elements

of the building draw the user up, leading to a roof-top rock garden, and above that, an

observation room allowing for full panoramic views of the site. All details of the façade and

form were drawn from the neighbourhood. From the distinct building typologies and

materials, to the precast concrete detailing, the Hydrostone Community Climbing Centre

presents a unique building for a unique neighbourhood.
