Marketing Manager St Andrews School , Turi, Kenya is seeking to appoint a Market- ing Manager Reporting to the Director of Admissions & Marketing of St An- drews School, the Marketing Manager in consultation with the Director, Headmasters, and the Admissions Director will shape the mar- keting strategy of the School. This is a demanding position and the successful applicant will be a key public face of the School. It is suited to a high calibre professional who combines exceptional leadership skills with significant relevant experi- ence within either the independent schoolssector, or a marketing-led commercial organisation encompassing an international aspect. St Andrews School – Background St Andrews School, Turi, is highly respected in Kenya and regarded as one of the leading international schools in Africa. With approximately 620 pupils, it comprises two semi-autonomous Schools: a Preparatory School of 250 pupils between the ages of 3 and 13 and a Senior School of 370 pupils between the ages of 13 and 18. It is fully coeducational and the great majority of pupils are boarders. The School has an overtly Christian foundation and sees its overall aim as encouraging young men and women to live and lead with integrity’. The Prep School was founded in 1931, and is a long standing member of IAPS. It aims to provide a world class education, with outstanding teaching and learning central to its vision of creating leaders that will change their country, continent and the world for good. St Andrews has a strong Christian foundation and ethos which define and govern the nature and work of the School today. While children from all faith backgrounds are welcome, the Schools Christian charac- ter is clearly evident in its underlying educational philosophy and prac- tice. The School is situated on a beautiful 400 acres site on the western slopes of the Rift Valley some 200km NW of Nairobi, near the Equator and at 2600m where the climate is temperate. It is malaria free. The School

St Andrew’s, Turi is one of the most prominent international schools in Kenya and has an outstanding reputation throughout Africa. Founded as a Preparatory School for the children of expatriates in 1931, it has grown to comprise both Preparatory and Senior Schools and to welcome children of over 25 nationalities, the majority of whom are African.

It is fully coeducational and boarding, teaches the British curriculum and sends pupils to universities in the UK, America, Australia and many other parts of the world. Specifically at the Senior School, the IGCSE , GCSE and A levels are taught from Year 9 to Year 13.

The Role

St Andrew’s, Turi is seeking to appoint a Marketing Manager who will provide strategic direction and leadership for all marketing activities across the whole School. Reporting to the Admissions and Marketing Director, this position is responsible for communicating key information about the School and generating material for the promotion of School activities as well as building a long term brand identity for the School. The role has a significant strategic element to it and the appointee will be expected to work with the Director of Admissions to develop the Marketing Strat-egy of the School and to oversee regular market research including competitor analysis and parent satisfaction. The Marketing Manager will be experienced in marketing, public relations, mass communication and on line marketing. The Marketing Manager should expect to travel both within Kenya and to other African countries in order to fulfil the requirements of the position. The appointment is seen as critical to the School’s success and the appointee will play a central role in the School’s development.

Planning and delivery of below, above and through-the-line Marketing activity

Content development from within the school via video, photo or arti-cles

Provision of Marketing material to support the Admissions Team and enrolment process

Advising the school on current market research and customer insight to guide strategic decision making.

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE

QUALIFICATIONS A record of good academic achievement and educated to degree level or equiva-lent

Relevant high level professional marketing or public relations communication qualification

KNOWLEDGE A demonstrable under-standing of the principles of marketing, PR and com-munication within the in-dependent schools’ sector

A clear understanding of and affinity for the School’s ethos

A commitment to promot-ing and safeguarding the welfare of children

Substantial experience of mar-keting and communication within the independent schools’ sector

IT literate with a working knowledge of relevant Google analytics, Word Press, Google Drive, and Social Media.

EXPERIENCE Significant experience of managing a marketing or customer care function in a relevant environment

A track record of successful marketing campaign drives with the ability to influ-ence, motivate and per-suade at all levels

Experience of developing strategic and tactical mar-keting plans.

The ability to write and verbally communicate mes-sages that are clear and concise.

Working at a senior level

Relevant experience in an inter-national context

The ability to develop and im-plement an integrated market-ing strategy

Duties

Oversee regular market research to inform the School’s strategic deci-sion making.

Line manage the Digital Marketing Officer.

Admissions

Support the enrolment process by providing marketing literature and other tools.

Help raise awareness of Admissions led promotional activity including international promotional tours.

Offline Marketing Production of printed marketing literature: Management of external photographers and photography selection.

Liaising with internal staff to gain required content

Copywriting

Management of external agencies to create professional literature.

Online Marketing/Website

Oversee the maintenance of the School’s website to keep it fresh and rele-vant.

Planning and structure of website reporting

Planning and appraisal of the online communication plan

Overseeing the development of the online communication plan by the Digi-tal Marketing Executive, including social media.

Keep up to date with digital marketing trends and implement them, where possible and appropriate.

Branding

Protect and develop the brand both internally and externally

Raise awareness/understanding of the importance of the brand and the role of all stakeholders.

Public Relations

Work with the Director of Admissions to keep the School top of mind amongst stakeholders.

Work with external agencies and the East African press to ensure the School receives the right amount and right kind of press coverage.

Remuneration

There is a generous overall remuneration package as detailed below (Salary: The successful applicant will be placed on the Main Pay Scale.

School fees (where applicable): there is a 100% fee remission for staff children throughout the School; places are subject to the School’s nor-mal entry requirements. Fee remission is a taxable benefit.

Medical care: all members of staff and their families are covered under a comprehensive insurance scheme,.

Pension: the School operates a defined contribution pension scheme in which the employer and employee each contributes 6% of monthly salary. For employees emigrating from Kenya at the end of their con-tract, the full value of the contributions, plus accumulated interest, can be withdrawn from the scheme.

Meals: these are provided free of charge during term time

Facilities: extensive sports facilities are open to use by staff and their families

Hours of work and holiday entitlement The role is full-time and includes working in the evening and at weekends as required. The successful applicant will be expected to take a full and active part in the boarding provision of the school.
