Penitential Act

Glory to God

Liturgy of the Word First Reading Isaiah 12: 1-6

On that day, you will say: I give you thanks, O Lord; though you have been angry with me, your anger

has abated, and you have consoled me. God indeed is my salvation; I am confident and unafraid. For

the Lord is my strength and my might, and he has been my salvation. With joy you will draw water

from the fountains of salvation, And you will say on that day: give thanks to the Lord, acclaim his

name; Among the nations make known his deeds, proclaim how exalted is his name. Sing praise to the

Lord for he has done glorious things; let this be known throughout all the earth. Shout with exultation,

City of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel!

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 116

Second Reading 1 John 1: 1-4

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we looked

upon and touched with our hands concerns the Word of life. For the life was made visible; we have

seen it and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was made

visible to us. What we have seen and heard we proclaim now to you, so that you too may have

fellowship with us; for our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are

writing this so that our joy may be complete.

Gospel John 15: 9-17

As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you

will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have

told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. This is my commandment:

love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s

friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a

slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you

everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and

appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he

may give you. This I command you: love one another.

Homily

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and

invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father

before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our

salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was

buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into

heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the

living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the

giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is

adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and

apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the

resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

And I will pray the Father,

and he shall give you another comforter,

that he may 'bide with you forever;

E'en the sp'rit of truth.

Prayer for Spiritual Communion

For those of you gathered at home in prayer with us, being that we cannot all gather around God’s table at this time, we ask you to

please recite the Prayer for Spiritual Communion that we can soon gather in the House of God and receive the Eucharist.

M y Jesus, I believe that You are present

in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You

above all things, and I desire to receive You

into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You

Sacramentally, come at least spiritually into

my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You. Never

permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

Communion hymn When We Eat This Bread

Please repeat the refrain after the cantor:

Communion Meditation The Prayer of St. Francis

Bradley Ellingboe (b. 1958)

Lord, make us instruments of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let us sow love.

Where there is injury, let us grant pardon.

Where there is discord, unite our hearts.

Where there is doubt, may we find faith;

When we despair, give hope.

Where there is darkness, give us light.

Where there is sadness, give us joy.

Lord, grant that we may not so much seek

To be consoled as to console.

To be understood as to understand

To be loved as to love.

For it’s in giving that we receive.

In pardoning that we are pardoned

And in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen
