Please join us for a three evening series on Pope Francis.

These sessions will take a closer look at where Pope Francis is coming from, what he’s trying to do, and (best of all) what it all means for us as followers of Jesus Christ.

Participants can expect to come away with a fuller understanding of this remarkable figure and deeper appreciation of their own rela-tionship with Jesus Christ.

The sessions will be held on

Thursday, November 7 Thursday, November 14 Thursday, November 21

from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the hall.

To better accommodate the refreshment and material needs, please register online at www.holytrinityladera.org

The presenter will be Fr. Walter J. Woods. Fr. Walter taught moral theology at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA, and then served for over 20 years as a pastor in the Archdio-cese of Boston. He retired last year and now lives in Holy Trinity Parish.

All current Eucharistic Ministers and Sacristans and those interested in joining these ministries are invited

to join us for a commissioning ceremony and dinner on

Friday, November 15, 2019 Ceremony will begin at 6:30 and

dinner to follow at 7:00 p.m.

MEN OF HOLY TRINITY – A NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER Come join the Holy Trinity Men’s Group for inspiring discussions to help us become better men, husbands, and fathers. We meet every Saturday morning at 7:30 am in the church Hall for scripture reading and group discussion. During November, we will preview and discuss the weekly Gospel so that we can get more out of Sunday Mass.

> Saturday 11/02 7:30 AM - Seeking God Daily– What choice can you make to seek God? > Thursday 11/07 5:30PM - Holy Beer Night - Fun, Fellowship, Football @The Ranch Grill > Saturday 11/09 7:30 AM - God has a Perfect Plan – Are you touching base with him? > Saturday 11/16 7:30 AM - What Would Jesus Do? – Keep this question in your pocket > Saturday 11/23 7:30 AM – The Gratitude Attitude - How to give thanks to the Lord?

Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Tough Love The first reading tells us that the God of all the universe is a merciful God who loves all creatures, not just enough to keep them in existence, but enough to give sinners the chance to repent. At times when I am behind a slow driver and want to arm the photon tor-pedoes if he doesn't move over, I remember that only God, who made all things, has the right to punish our transgressions. Instead, God gives us warnings and reminders to lead us to repentance. Warnings are found in God's word, in the scriptures, and in Jesus. In the Hebrew scrip-tures, we see many warnings about sin and unfaithfulness. Besides the Ten Command-ments, we also have the books of the law. While Christians no longer follow the laws of kosher, those laws can be warnings that even the smallest of sins need to be repented. White lies, for example, are usually told to keep from hurting someone's feelings. When we get used to telling white lies, however, we can be inclined to tell other lies, such as those told to protect ourselves. Those lies not only make it harder for people to trust us, they al-so keep us from facing our faults and taking responsibility for our actions. Jesus also warns us about sin, both in his teaching and when he forgives sinners. In John 8:1-11, he saves the woman caught in adultery from stoning but tells her to sin no more. In today's Gospel Jesus has dinner with the tax collector, who demonstrates his re-pentance by offering to repay those he has extorted. Jesus tells Zachaeus and the by-standers that he came to save the lost. But part of being saved is the intention not to get lost again. And what about "reminders"-- the results of sin that usually catch up with us? The sin of arrogance can lead a driver to think he can ignore the speed limit. But when he has to pay a speeding ticket, that is the reminder that his arrogance, not the speeding, was a sin. Most sins have consequences, ranging from a guilty conscience to a jail sentence or worse. If we ignore those reminders, we may suffer eternal consequences. If we think of the results of sin as God's "tough love," per-haps they will remind us to sin no more. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
