Trends in Daily Traffic through the Massey Tunnel
Average daily traffic volumes through the Massey Tunnel have been relatively stable over the past eight years
Trends in Truck Traffic
Weekday truck usage of the Massey Tunnel increased at a
rate of 2.7% per year over the period 2004 to 2012 with
most of the growth concentrated during the mid-day
period.
Trucks accounted for up to 17% of the traffic through the
tunnel during the mid-day period on weekdays

Traffic Flow Patterns
All Day on Weekdays (All Vehicle Types)
Most of the northbound daily traffic using the tunnel gets on from Highway 17 (almost 60%). In the southbound
direction, about 53% of the traffic exits at either River Road or Highway 17.

All Day on Weekdays (Trucks only)
Most of the daily truck traffic using the tunnel from the south gets on from Highway 17 (about 75%), predominately
from north Delta. More trucks cross through the tunnel in the southbound direction and while the number getting off
on Highway 17 is similar to the number getting on in the northbound direction this volume accounts for about 65% of
the southbound truck traffic.
