99 How to Apply
The world is changing, but business schools are not.
Global change is transforming everything around us.And it calls for something new. A different type of school, a different type of career.
You’ll need the instincts of an entrepreneur. You’ll need vision that transcends borders. You’ll need to learn by doing. You’ll need more than the status quo.
Because your time is irreplaceable. And your ideas can change everything. This is why we exist. This is why we are different.
Hult, a new kind of business school for the global generation.
For the global generation, the new way to learnabout the world is to experience it. Only Hult allows you to complete your Master degree while immersing yourself in up to three of the world’s most influential cities, including Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai, New York, and Shanghai.
Central locations in every city. Study in the heart of global commerce of each city. Our central campuses are situated where the influence, power, and culture of each city is. You’ll experience the business customs of the location firsthand, and learn local business knowledge each time you step outside the classroom.
How Global Campus Rotation works.During Hult’s one-year Master, you’ll complete eight months in your home campus before having the option to rotate to any of our other global campuses. And because we operate each location ourselves, you’ll rotate seamlessly between cities without worrying about cumbersome study abroad or exchange programs.
To learn more about Global Campus Rotation, see page 38.

Employers hire Hult graduates for their entrepreneurial attitude, curiosity, and international outlook. As a result, each year thousands of students achieve their global career potential.
We specialize in helping international students find international jobs.Working one-on-one with our dedicated career development teams on each campus, last year Hult graduates secured employment at 800 companies in over 60 countries. During your program you will receive coaching on crafting a personalized job search, high-stakes interview preparation, and workshops on salary negotiations and developing a personal brand.
Career development before, during, and after you study.Unlike other schools, Hult starts preparing you for your global career before you arrive on campus with our Career Fast Track program, and even after you graduate with our Hult Connect alumni portal, job board, and global networking events.
For more information about career development at Hult, see page 40.
Keep your skillset relevant and up to date—for life. Many executives find that their later career requires different skills than their earlier career. The rapid pace of change also means critical business knowledge for the present might have simply been impossible to learn during your degree—don’t forget that LinkedIn, YouTube, and even Facebook are all less than 15 years old.
At Hult, you can refresh a skillset or get up to speed in a new business trend by enrolling in one elective a year at any of our global campuses, or by enrolling in a range of leadership Summer Executive Education Programs at our Ashridge Estate campus. There’s a small registration fee, but the course is otherwise free of charge.
To learn more about lifelong learning opportunities, see page 44.
Our graduates are in demand with leading companies around the world.

You cannot learn business just by sitting in a classroom. That's why Hult’s unique curriculum teaches you theory and gives you opportunities to apply your learning in the real world. This new approach is what sets Hult apart from other schools.
Put theory into practice. At Hult, we give you the opportunity to solve a real company’s current business problem through our intense Hult Business Challenge. Students choose either the Corporate Track, where they’ll solve a corporation’s real business problem, or the Entrepreneurial Track, where they’ll develop a startup idea of their own.
In addition, throughout the year we leverage complex computer-based simulations to expose students to realistic business environments where they can test marketing, finance, and operations theories.
To learn more about the Hult Business Challenge, see page 34.
To learn more about simulations, see page 32.
Leadership skills to set you apart. We asked 100 of the world’s leading CEOs what they needed from business graduates. They told us they wanted candidates with stronger soft skills in areas like influencing, collaborating, and thinking adaptively. That’s why we’ve built the developing and measuring of these competencies directly into the curriculum. We won the Association of MBAs Award for Innovation in 2014 for this innovative approach to our curriculum.
To learn more about leadership development at Hult, see page 36.
Directed studies. Throughout the year, Hult offers select groups of the most ambitious students the opportunity to work on a directed study project aimed at solving a global business’ current problem. During these projects, the intimate student team works directly with the company commissioning the research, and is supported every step of the way by expert Hult professors.
Practice new business thinking by tackling the issues facing some of the world’s most innovative companies.

What separated Hult from other business schools was the amount of care and attention the faculty took to ensure the best professional and personal development of students. The professors are not only world-class but also committed to their students, and I can’t stress enough how helpful the Career Development team was. From your first day at Hult until graduation, and even as an alumnus, there’s a sense of community and family between the students and faculty. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of it.”

Why Hult?
At Hult’s centrally located San Francisco campus, you’ll study disruptive innovation just 3 miles from some of the industry’s most influential innovators, including Twitter, Uber, Pinterest, Dropbox, and Yelp. Plus, learn from real-world practitioners who bring theories to life in the classroom. For instance, Hult professor of strategic brand management Pete Boland worked for Microsoft before becoming Senior Vice President at Charles Schwab.
Master of Disruptive Innovation

Practical application: Unique simulation-based learningWe believe you can only learn business by applying it. Our programs enable students to test theories learned in the classroomthrough interactive business simulations.
What are simulations?
Simulations are an opportunity for students to put their classroom learning into action. At Hult, we use an array of techniques—from simple role plays to complex virtual worlds—at key points throughout the program to illustrate business theories.
Simulations at Hult
Throughout the year, we leverage complex computer-based simulations to place student teams in the driver’s seat of emerging companies competing against one another in a virtual marketplace. Over several days, teams bring their learning to life by making dozens of critical decisions on marketing, product development, sales, HR management, finance, accounting, and manufacturing, all while coping with the shifting economic and political realities of their virtual business world. In the end, students connect the success or failure of their companies back to their own business decisions.
How are Hult simulations different?
Many business schools use simulations to illustrate one particular theory at the end of a specific course. Clear, simple, unambiguous learning—but business isn’t like that. That’s why Hult uses multi-day simulations at a program level to teach integrated thinking across marketing, finance, operations, supply chain management, and HR, because in the real world no decision is made in isolation. These immersive simulations are scattered throughout the year and increase in complexity so that students are constantly challenged to grow.

Snapshot of a Hult business simulation
Here’s a small selection of tasks and decisions students from the class of 2015 faced in one of Hult’s virtual marketplace simulations.
Your team:• Canadian graduate in finance with one
year work experience• Indian engineering graduate with no
work experience• Brazilian accounting graduate with six
months work experience at an internship
The task:
You are starting a new company in the international microcomputer business. Your executive team has the next two years to get the company off the ground. Your goal is to be the best competitor in the world.
Decision 1 (Marketing):
Analyze the research and choose your market strategy.
• Will your team focus on smaller high margin segments, large highly competitive segments, or fringe segments outside the mainstream?
• Will your team chase smaller, less costly, or larger, more expensive markets?
• Will your team target geographies to minimize distribution costs, or more central locations?
Decision 2 (HR):
Human capital.
• Will your team compensate higher than the competition to draw top talent, on a par with them for an even playing field, or lower than them to streamline costs for investment elsewhere?
• Will your team provide comprehensive healthcare coverage, basic coverage, or something in the middle for its employees?
• What does your paid vacation scheme look like, if you have one at all?
• Will your HR policies vary in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East?
Decision 3 (Operations):
Choose production capacity.
• Will your team produce larger quantities at a reduced cost per unit at the risk of a surplus, or small quantities to reduce holding costs of unsold units?
• Will your team produce in line with demand, or at a lower fixed quantity in the hope of driving increased desire and demand?
• Will your team stagger production rates in line with seasonality and costs, or maintain a consistent level?
Simulations change each year and vary by program.

Choose your track, form your team, do your research
In your first module, you will choose either the corporate track or the entrepreneurial track for your challenge. You’ll then form teams of your own choice based on like-mindedness, common goals, and complementary skillsets. Finally, you’ll attend sessions on strategic planning and partake in a weekend of initial field research before you start developing your solution or startup.
Corporate track
Hult works with a different corporation each year
to solve a current problem that company is facing. Previous clients have included IBM, Philips, and Unilever. Over the course of the project, teams present their solutions to two “Checkpoint Challengers”: industry experts who assess potential weaknesses in their business plans. Each team is also assigned a coach, generally from the world of consulting, who provides mentorship. Periodically, representatives of the company who set the challenge also provide feedback on the students’ progress. At the end, teams on each Hult campus present their final business plans to a panel of expert judges who choose that campus’ winner.
Entrepreneurial track
Students bring their own startup ideas to the table and form
teams to make that idea happen. As with the corporate track, Hult supports teams through providing "Checkpoint Challengers" and expert coaches who advise and critique plans. In the end, teams present their business models to a panel of global entrepreneurs, executives, and founders of social enterprises, who choose a winner based on a number of criteria, including level of innovation, quality of analysis, and ambition. Many students leverage this track as the initial phase in setting up a new business, and go on to pursue their startup post graduation.
Practical application: Solving current issues with the Hult Business ChallengeThe problems facing business are constantly changing. The Hult Business Challenge gives you the opportunity to apply your classroom learning to a contemporary problem facing one of the world’s most innovative companies.

“We believe by collaborating with Hult students on these projects, we can transfer our wealth of business knowledge and arm students with the skills to develop an innovation-based economy.”
Systemic heart disease, gestational diabetes, and perinatal depression are widespread health issues globally. In most cases they can be predicted and treated before the onset of the disease, and in some cases they can be intercepted after onset but before the arrival of symptoms. But people don’t often seek treatment for a disease they are only likely to get, or for which they have not yet experienced symptoms. Often they don’t even know they’re at risk of illness. Johnson & Johnson addresses the issue through its Janssen Research Disease Interception Accelerator. Johnson & Johnson asked our students: How can we make treatment of these diseases become preemptive rather than reactive? What business models will facilitate a transition from a “diagnose and treat” approach to a “predict and preempt” approach? The healthcare and biotech industries are some of the biggest and fastest growing in the world. This was a huge opportunity for Hult’s Class of 2016 to have a significant impact in this exciting new space.

Evaluation data from MBA class of 2015.
The model
Soft skills deemed critical by the CEOs we interviewed form three core competencies:
• Interpersonal influence• Team collaboration• Adaptive thinking Students develop skills across these competencies, and their progress is measured throughout the entire process.
The method
During the year, students take part in workshops and simulations designed to help them identify their own development needs. Based on peer and self assessments, they select three skills to develop. Through in-depth workshops, peer feedback, and professional coaching, students develop these skills for the remainder of their program. Students also film a before and after video of themselves demonstrating their development areas so they can compare progress. Every student’s progress is systematically tracked, so students can measure their improvement over the year. Students also work with
Professional Leadership Development Coaches, who are members of Hult’s faculty who specialize in leadership development, advising, and consulting, and who train some of the world’s top executives in leadership skills.
The results
By graduation the results are very impressive—over 85% of our students show accelerated improvement in all three development areas.
Leadership skills: Improve your employability*
We pride ourselves on being connected to the real world ofbusiness. We based our Master of International Business curriculum on interviews with 100 of the world’s leading CEOs, who told us they needed graduates with better adaptive thinking, team collaboration, and interpersonal influence skills. You will practice and develop these abilities throughout the year.

How Global Campus Rotation works
Hult's one-year Master programs consists of 5 modules. You’ll spend the first 3 modules at a home campus of your choosing, and can then rotate to other campuses for the final 2 modules.
Global experience matters
Experience firsthand the business and cultural practices of the world’s most influential economies. Internationalize your resume while developing a broad network of contacts across multiple continents—you never know where your next career opportunity will come from.
Central locations in every city
Our modern campuses are centrally located so you’ll study amid the buzz, culture, and energy of each city, not in a remote suburb. Or for a different pace, visit our historic Ashridge Estate campus in London, which sits on 190 acres of lush gardens and woodlands. And because we operate each location ourselves, you’ll rotate seamlessly between cities without worrying about cumbersome study abroad or exchange programs.
Global Campus Rotation:Experience three continents in one yearThe only way to learn global business is to experience it. Our pioneering approach allows you to complete your degree while studying in up to three of the world’s most influential cities: Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai, New York, and Shanghai.

Being in Dubai helped me realize there were a lot of things I could do on my own.”

Some students find that completeting an internship is the perfect way to secure their dream job after Hult. To help make that possible, we allow Master students on all programs to earn course credit for completing an internship during their studies. Students can opt to take the Internship Elective course during modules D and E, and then complete course work related to their internship to earn the credit. And while students are ultimately responsible for finding an internship, Hult’s dedicated Career Development team is always on hand to provide support.

Katharine Boshkoff is Vice President of Global Career Development at Hult. A former strategy consultant and professor, she has coached thousands of students to find career success in global markets.
Experts in international student job placement.
Question: Of the hundreds of students you work with each year, how many find jobs in a new country?
Katharine Boshkoff: From our Master Class of 2015, 65% are working in a country different from the one they came from. Students come to Hult to make a change, whether it’s country, industry, or profession. And they do— 99% of our 2015 graduates changed one of the three. Pick the change you want the most and focus your efforts on that. If location is the most important, be prepared to adapt industry or role.
Q: Which markets are the most challenging for international jobseekers?
KB: North America is the most competitive job market for internationals, closely followed by Europe. This doesn’t mean it’s impossible to land a job there if you’re from abroad, far from it—66% of international Master students who studied at our U.S. campuses in 2015 found employment in the U.S. But it does mean you need to be prepared to work hard to win a job in a foreign market—simply attending business school in the country you want to work in is not enough.
Q: Is there a "formula for success" for landing your dream job?
KB: I see students succeed every year, and their secret is simple: They differentiate themselves and work hard. Some students choose alternative, smaller companies who are hungry for the particular skills the student brings. We work with students one-on-one to help them understand how to position their unique strengths. Start your job search early and arrive to campus with a polished resume and LinkedIn profile. Hult’s Career Fast Track works with accepted students before they arrive on campus, so students show up job search ready on day one.

Most careers span decades and critical skills can change as you progress in seniority. The rapid pace of change also means future critical business knowledge might have simply been impossible to learn during your program. “After studying in Shanghai, I’ve decided to stay. The city is called the business capital of China for a reason—its dynamic environment and cultural vibrancy make it an exhilarating place, and the professional and personal possibilities seem endless.
I’m now in the hiring process for a Chinese company based in Shenzhen—‘China’s Silicon Valley’—who owns 70% of the drone market. I still have three months until graduation, but if selected I’ll support the company’s marketing in Latin America—it couldn’t be a better fit for me!
At Hult, I’ve developed skills to be an efficient team player and a confident decision-maker, plus discussions in class have broadened my horizons and destroyed my preconceived ideas of the world. Hult has helped place me at the intersection of global business.”
Studying in Shanghai opened a world of new possibilities in an exciting new country to Raissa. She now plans on remaining in China post graduation.

The Hult Boston campus
Our Boston campus is in an unbeatable location, a short walk from historic downtown.
Use our centrally located campus as your base to make the most of everything the city has to offer.
Award-winning architecture
Hult’s building was originally designed by internationally acclaimed architect Thomas Sandell, and was comprehensively renovated in 2015 to double its capacity. It now features three bright atrium spaces filled with contemporary furniture and art. Academic facilities include eight lecture halls, 53 team rooms, and a multimedia resource center. There’s also a student kitchen, lounge, and games room. The patio extending off our on-site restaurant and bar takes full advantage of the great views across North Point Park.
Room with a view
The location truly is second to none. Nestled on the banks of the Charles River, our campus enjoys sweeping views of downtown Boston. You’re only a short walk from the Museum of Science, historic Beacon Hill, and Charles Street’s shops and cafés. Excellent public transportation means that residential neighborhoods are easily accessible.
Bringing lessons to life in Boston
Bringing local companies on campus to pose real challenges to students is just one way classes are enriched with real-world experience at Hult. Our Boston campus hosted a marketing “Hackathon”—one full intense day of brainstorming ideas to create a business plan for Boston-based tech business Reduxio. Students developed strategies for marketing, growth, and going to market, and then pitched their ideas to Reduxio’s board members, who chose winning solutions.

Giving you access to business people at the top of their game
During class time and through campus-organized events, we aim to give our students every possible opportunity to meet people at the top of their professions and engage in real-world business issues. Procter & Gamble, PwC, Barclays, Burberry, Mars, and BSkyB are just some of the companies who have shared their business insights with our London students. The original American city
When most people think of America, New York City immediately springs to mind. For over 200 years people from all over the world have flocked to the city in the hope of making their fortunes and building themselves a better life. They created the blueprint of today’s money-driven metropolis. Business doesn’t get more iconic than Wall Street with its financial giants and Madison Avenue, the birthplace of modern advertising. Notoriously competitive and highly ambitious, New York’s job market is not for the faint-hearted. But if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.
Where finance, media, and politics interact
Business and politics are two sides of the same economic coin. Students at Hult New York are uniquely positioned to explore this complex relationship with thought leaders from the finance, marketing, and politics worlds, who give them valuable insights into the latest developments in these fields. Past events have included discussions with the Honorable Thomas Reeve Pickering, former U.S. Ambassador, visits to Bloomberg headquarters, and guided tours of the United Nations headquarters.

Arjita SethiCo-founder of The School of Games India, Master, Class of 2015
“My parents started a school 17 years ago in New Delhi teaching language skills to underprivileged people in need. They can only teach 5,000 students a year, but there are over a billion people globally who have no access to high quality education to end their cycle of poverty. I began looking for a business school that could help me develop an innovative, scalable model of education capable of reaching millions. That’s when I found Hult.
Hult is one of the most revolutionary schools I’ve seen. The business models and frameworks are hands-on, which gave me a year to develop my startup, The School of Games. I was also able to develop my network—many of my current partnerships are from student and professor connections at Hult. I would certainly recommend Hult to anyone who is looking to solve the hardest problems in the most disruptive way!
Now hiring interns, Hult was the first place I looked. There’s a certain level of professionalism and diversity that no other school provides. The students are creative and entrepreneurial. In Silicon Valley, I need employees who can think outside the box and brainstorm solutions with a global mindset, and Hult is perfect for that. Hult is the hub of disruption and innovation. You learn not only from professors, but from your teammates, the activities, and mentors.
Every moment there was enriching. It’s intense, but it makes you resilient, and resilience goes a long way!”
Arjita wanted to expand her family’s business educating the underprivileged. To teach millions around the world, she needed a business school that could help her develop an innovative business model. She chose Hult and now has her own startup, and hasreturned to Hult to hire talent.

Past Hult Prize winners changing the world.
2015 challenge: Early childhood education.A team from National Chengchi University won the Hult Prize with a concept which embraced the female entrepreneurs running the
informal daycare centers prevalent in many urban slums. The result provided enhanced education to children at the same cost as informal daycare, all while increasing income for the entrepreneurial women running the new purposely-built daycare centers.
2014 challenge: Non-communicable disease.Six students from the Indian School of Business won with their revolutionary idea to improve healthcare for India’s slum-dwellers. Their “Dox in a box” solution brought cost-effective healthcare to the doorsteps of the world’s poorest by enabling them to self-diagnose and self-monitor chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
2013 challenge: The global food crisis. An MBA team from McGill University won with their ambitious idea to transform insects into a viable food source for the world's poorest. The team’s business plan, based on the global insight that 2.1 billion people worldwide regularly eat insects, empowers urban slum communities by offering them better access to an efficient, sustainable source of protein and nutrients.
