Suzanne Collins: Biography - Adult Years• After Suzanne graduated from college, she wrote for

many children’s television shows on Nickelodeon. She wrote for the following shows : Clarissa Explains it All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Little Bear, and Oswald. As a writer for PBS Kids she helped write Clifford’s Puppy Days. One day while thinking about Alice in Wonderland, she thought that you were more likely to fall in a man hole than a rabbit hole. So she based her first book series on that idea and called it The Underland Chronicles. The idea for the Hunger Games came to her while watching a kid’s reality TV show and thinking about war. So far the Hunger Games book series is her most successful to date.

by Survivor

Risin' up, back on the streetDid my time, took my chancesWent the distanceNow I'm back on my feetJust a man and his will to survive

So many times, it happens too fastYou trade your passion for gloryDon't lose your grip on the dreams of the pastYou must fight just to keep them alive

[Chorus]It's the eye of the tigerIt's the thrill of the fightRisin' up to the challengeOf our rivalAnd the last known survivorStalks his prey in the nightAnd he's watching us all with theEye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heatHangin' tough, stayin' hungryThey stack the odds Still we take to the streetFor the kill with the skill to survive

[Chorus]

Risin' up straight to the topHad the guts, got the gloryWent the distance Now I'm not gonna stopJust a man and his will to survive

[Chorus]

The eye of the tigerThe eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger

Ratings:I gave The Hunger Games a rating of

Five out of Five StarsI thought the book was very intense. Suzanne Collins has written a book about post apocalyptic America and how people had to struggle to survive without basic human rights. The story takes place in a country called Panem, which used to be North America. This new country is brutal and unforgiving. Young people between the ages of 12 and 18 are forced to participate in the Hunger Games. This televised event is a fight to the death, with only one survivor. I thought Suzanne Collins portrayed the main characters with humanity. I felt sadness over the choices they had to make. Her description of life and death in Panem was very real and I felt like I was there watching everything happen right in front of my eyes. I loved the book, I could not put it down. I am very anxious to read the next two books in the series.
