Dear Year R, here is your week’s home learning fun based on ‘Fairy tale princesses, knights and castles’. Hope you enjoy it, Mrs C x Literacy activities: There are various stories to listen to and act out this week: Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin, Princess and the pea. Use books at home, you tube, online story teller or www.twinkl.co.uk Information texts about castles. Introducing some new vocabulary. Activity sheet to choose various characters for the previous weeks and write what they might be saying in speech bubbles. Write your own fairy tale/once upon a time story. Who is in it, what happens, is there a happily ever after? Use your own ideas and sounding out. Maths activities: Recap on 2D shapes to name, describe and count the edges. Complete the Shape castle activity sheet, cut and stick 2D shapes to make castle pictures. You could also create other pictures using different shapes. Using the shield template design your own shield. You could make shape patterns by printing or decorate it with your favourite things. Use shapes to make repeating patterns; https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering- and-sequencing/shape-patterns Follow the map of Fairy tale land. Use positional language to move forwards, backwards, left and right, behind, above, below, in between. Make you own fairy tale map with big paper or cardboard on the floor, add the characters and details. There is a pdf of ‘castles around the world’ you can locate these on a world map. Make a sword, shield, crown, magic wand for imaginary play. Create a hobby horse assault course. Collect items around the course. The princess has spilt all her peas; can you pick them up with a cocktail stick? You could also do all Cinderella’s chores! Make triangular bunting or a banner to decorate your house, it could even be the banqueting hall!
