“The Farce of Master Pathelin”

After the success of the plays “Servant of Two Masters” and “II Rusteghi” - The Boors, the Avesso Theatre group returns with a new drama “The Farce of Master Pathelin”.

Doctor Pathelin, a liar and disgraced lawyer goes to the local market to buy cloth for his wife. He pays a visit to clothier Guillaume Joceaulme, also given to trickery, and convinces him to let him have six yards of fine cloth on credit.

Guillaume Joceaulme tries to retrieve his payment, but eventually he gives up…

In the end, and with all characters in court, is held a trial chaired by a Judge of questionable ethics who acts with partiality in his sentences.

A fifteenth-century (1457) anonymous medieval farce written originally in French, featuring satire, with strong irony and focusing on issues such as honesty and the apparently “wise-guys”, of our society.

Funchal’s Sacred Art MuseumMAY 18 TO JUNE 18“Landscapes: The Presence of the Religious”Aiming to celebrate the International Museum Day 2016, the Funchal’s Sacred Art Museum organizes a collective exhibition consisting of works produced by local creators and audio-visual archive’s material.Being aware that an approach to their religious art collections always involves a recall on the life contexts of each community, the museum takes a more specific approach by enquiring about the importance of the religious role in the geographical perception and cultural construction of the island’s territory; over time beliefs and traditions were “sculptured” by the various ways that popular religiosity took as an expression of the people’s Catholic faith.Free entrance.
