Theme: “Holy Spirit Fulfillment of Jesus’ Promise”
Today is the Feast of PENTECOST! Pentecost is the feast of God’s dwelling within us.
Today we remember that day when the Spirit came to the Apostles. His Spirit fills our very
minds, hearts and bodies. Pentecost is the feast after fifty days of Easter. Easter does not
appear to go out quietly because of in-activity in our churches and places of worship because
of the threat being posed by Coronavirus. In the midst of woes and calamities caused by
Covid-19, the Spirit is in our relationship to each other, to Christ, to the Father. In these two
months of no Mass, no Sacraments, the Spirit is what holds us together. It is found in fidelity
to our commitments to one another in this time of peril. Our responsible love that passes
between us, in the love and fidelity we have to Christ and his word. Our responsible actions
and words, our care for each other: that is the Spirit of Pentecost living in us.
When I say that ‘Fidelity’ is the essence of Pentecost, I mean that Jesus fulfilled His promise
to us and to His Apostles as we read from the fourteenth chapter of John’s gospel, “I will not
leave you desolate; I will come to you. continued on page 3
nuestras mentes, corazones y cuerpos.

Me
Oremos
fervientemente: “¡Ven, Señor Jesús! ¡Ven, Espíritu Santo, ven!”
(Continued from page 1) Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you
will see me; because I live, you will live also. On that day
you will know that I am in my father, and you in me, and I in you” Today, this promise has been realized or fulfilled in our
eyes.
Even though Jesus has ascended to His and our father, Jesus
did not leave the disciples desolate. He does not abandon us
either. Today and everyday we celebrate the gift of the Spirit
and the beginning of the public witnessing of the
faith-community. Through His passing, death, burial,
resurrection and ascension, Jesus remained faithful. He told
his followers of his constant love and guidance. Not minding
the threat of Covid-19, today is one of great joy, for the Spirit has poured into our hearts. We can believe and trust the
words of JESUS. These words and promises are forever.
We should say Amen to it.
Our first reading today from the Acts of the Apostles is
recounting the Pentecost story. It says that the Spirit came to
rest on the disciples, who “begin to express themselves in
foreign tongues and make bold proclamations as the spirit
prompted them.” The fear that once gripped their hearts is
now replaced by God’s liberating love. I hope as we wait for
the re-opening of churches, the Holy Spirit will help us to overcome the fear and shock the Covid-19 has put in our
personal lives, family, community and the entire world.
Like the disciples we will go out in boldness to proclaim the
goodness of God. When the disciples overcome the fear and
shock caused by the suffering and death of Christ through
His resurrection, they were obliged to go public and witness
that “Jesus is Lord!” They must go forth and share the peace
they have received from Jesus. As their sins have been
forgiven, so they must now set about the ministry of
reconciliation in the world. “If you forgive men’s sins, they are forgiven them; if you hold them bound, they are held
bound.” This ministry of reconciling one another is one of
the greatest authorities Jesus gave to us and His Church.
On this feast of Pentecost, we must ask some very profound
questions of ourselves and our community (OLGC), “ How
do we witness that Jesus is Lord? Are we chariots of fire and
burning with the flame of Pentecost? Are we bold in our
proclamation and even bolder in working for justice, peace
and forgiveness among individuals and members of our
family and community? For today is the day that we are sent forth to proclaim peace and forgiveness from the only One
who is lasting peace and total forgiveness.
Brothers and sisters, as we celebrate the feast of the
Pentecost in time of pandemic and peril, note that there are
so many false flames in our lives, family, community and our
world seeking to “light up our life.” In the end, such flames
only consume us dead and cold. The flame of the Spirit does
not consume us but transforms us into the likeness of the One
who said, “Peace I leave with you; not as the world gives, do
I give to you … You heard me say to you ‘I will go away, and I will come to you’” (Jn 14: 27-28) Today in the Spirit,
Jesus comes into our hearts. Let us earnestly pray, “Come,
Lord Jesus! Come, Holy Spirit, come!”

Pray the Rosary!
¡Reza el Rosario!
Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Our 2019-2020 Sunday sessions have ended. The last couple of months have been unprecedented to say the least. I want to extend a sincere thank you to three groups. First of all thank you to all of our dedicated catechists who before and during the pandemic have dedicated their time, gifts, and talents to spread their love of God to our children. We cannot thank you enough for your dedication to this ministry but we hope you know how much you are loved and appreciated! Second a big thank you to our parents. You have heard me say plenty of times before that you are your child's primary catechist; and you have most definitely risen to the challenge during the pandemic. Last but not least I'd like to thank our children, who have had their lives turned upside down, and yet still manage to be the light in our lives. We miss you all and are looking forward to our safe return! (Registrations for the 2020-21 religious education program will begin in the next couple of weeks please stay tuned.)
