Dear Parishioners,
I would like to extend a special welcome to Bishop Elect Alex Aclan! He is here tonight to celebrate confirmation at the 5:30 PM Life Teen Mass. He will be ordained later in the month. We are thrilled to have him with us tonight. He is currently serving our archdiocese as auxiliary bishop elect for the San Fernando Pastoral region (our region).
Welcome to all of our good folks being confirmed tonight and to their family members and friends who are with us. Your presence is a blessing to us. Most being confirmed tonight are our high school teens; however, we have a number of adults being confirmed as well. Congratulations to you all!
Thank you to our Divine Mercy prayer group! You are incredible in your coordinating this important devotion in our parish. Our Lord is indeed merciful, and the good news needs to be passed on to all.
Yesterday we had our First Holy Communion Mass for our grade school students (mostly 2nd grade). Thank you to Dr. Fidela Suelto and Miss Ty (2nd grade teacher) and Fr. Luis and Fr. Marlon. Congratulations to all of our first communicants! Our Religious Ed, kids who need first communion will be receiving the sacrament for the first time on Sunday, May 19th!
Thank you to those of you who have served and are serving the homeless here at Holy Family during the Sundays of April. Nothing like a loving heart extended to those in need! God appreciates your service.
During the month of May, our Justice & Peace and Pro-Life Committees are leading a Baby Crib project for donations to help expecting mothers in need. These donations will go to the Queen of Peace Center operated by the Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, the order formed by St. Teresa of Calcutta! Please check out the baby crib in our sanctuary and get a tag with a suggested donation item. Let’s fill up the crib and support life!
Tomorrow, May 6, is our Capital Campaign reception at 6:30 pm in the Grade School Auditorium. If you want to learn more about our exciting campaign, Building Our Future, please come. Appetizers and beverages will be served. What an exciting time for our parish as our Master Plan becomes a reality and the vision for our new Parish Center becomes a reality!
Our 2019 Keep on Rollin’ event is coming up on Saturday, June 8th! Event and raffle tickets are being sold. Please consider supporting YOUR parish by attending this event and purchasing raffle tickets for a $10,000 grand prize! Even if you feel that you don’t know many people at YOUR parish, you are welcome and you will have a great time!

MOTHER’S DAY May 12th
Next Sunday is Mother’s Day when we honor all mothers, living and deceased. What better way to remember them than to pray for them? A special Novena of Masses will be offered for all mothers on the days following Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day card sets are available at the parish office. There is no better gift that can be given than the gift of prayers. Mass remembrance envelope will be placed on the altar during the Mother’s Day Novena of Masses.

Since 1951, the Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity has offered hope for those in crisis situations throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Your contributions goes directly toward emergency needs for children, adults and families and provide one-time emergency help for food , utilities, medical, housing or funeral expenses. The goal of this Fund is service to the “neediest of the needy”, those for whom no other resource exist. Envelopes are in the pews.

AROUND THE DIOCESE
T h e P o w e r o f U n p l a n n e d
My Uber driver a few mornings ago didn’t mind the relatively short ride we em-barked on. “Every trip counts,” he said, “no one is more or less important than the other.” He prefers the short rides to the long ones in seemingly endless traffic — “I had one of those last night,” he said with obvious regret. “I like my short rides. They get me to a bonus, he assured me. It wasn’t quite 8 a.m. yet, and he was just grateful he wasn’t stuck on a highway, but moving through side streets. The woman who rang up my breakfast in a crowded shop had red-tipped dreadlocks and a sweet, shy smile. Here in the United States, especially those of us in urban settings, we encounter so many people during the course of a day. Each and every one of them has a story. I think that’s the power of the new movie Unplanned. It’s the story of a woman and her desire to help women, to have a purpose, to do something good with her life. She believed she was doing that as a volunteer in college and then when she worked at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas. It also hurt the hearts of some of those dearest around her — her parents, her boyfriend who became her husband — who believed that the abortions done at her clinic were the ending of human lives. But they loved her through that intimate, emotional difference of opinion. Love can do that. Love is sacrificial and hopeful and accepts people as they are.

“If you see something, say something” We see this warning in airports and schools, but experts say it’s also a great way for parents to think about Internet safety for their children. One of the best ways to protect children using the Internet is to actually engage with them in what they’re doing: Play the games they plan, check out their profile pages with them. Discuss online respect and rules for what can and cannot be shared. Regular conversation and monitoring helps keep chil-dren safe online. For more information, read the article by Catholic News Service, “Vigilance by parents and their children called key to safe internet use.”

SERVICIO A LARGO PLAZO
“Voy a pescar”.
