THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
The S.A.M. Men’s Club would like to thank all those that purchased pizzas and/or desserts from our recently completed spring sale. Your generous support helps the Men’s Club with our charitable efforts and continuing operation. We look for-ward to our fall sale event.
From The Desk of Msgr. Matthew Mitas: REMEMBER THAT MAY IS THE MONTH OF OUR LADY! AUDREY
One of the first parishioners of St. Angela Merici that I got to know when I arrived here three years ago was Audrey Nessing. Frankly, there’s no way I could have possibly overlooked her! She used to take part in just about everything and knew everybody. I think that she, being one of our original parishioners, has hosted at least two-thirds of our parishioners at her house at one time or another for one of her famous lunches, and I was rapidly put on the list of invitees. She was a dear and lovely soul who found time in her schedule and room in her heart to accommodate everybody, and was a stranger to no one. Audrey passed away a couple of weeks ago (at age 92), and she’ll be impossible to replace. I’m writing all this to let you know that she, being the dear soul that she was, remembered our parish in a big way when she passed. She left St. Angela’s a gift annuity in the amount of $16,620 (to cover “operating expenses”), which we have already received and will be applied to the purposes she intended. In your charity, please pray for her!
LAST CLASS
My Catechism Class will meet for the last time this year on Tuesday, May 16 (not this Tuesday). Then will take our summer vacation and resume in the fall. We have a wonderful time discussing the intricacies of our religion and everybody is welcome to join us. It starts right after the Tuesday evening devotions (roughly 7:20PM) and we meet in the Parish Meeting Room (located next to my office).
LOURDES/FATIMA PILGRIMAGE
Our pilgrimage to Lourdes, Fatima, Assisi and Rome is on for this October and we want as many to go as is possible. If you have made up your mind to go, then now is the time to act. There are brochures in the parish office to make your application. Either call the office and we can mail you one, or stop by the office and pick one up. This being the 100th anniversary of the apparitions in Fat-ima, it should be a great pilgrimage!
JOIN THE 150!
While you’re at it, think about joining the great St. Angela Merici 150 Club for our first ever annu-al dinner/dance bash (May 13). Flyers have been sent out for the benefit of those who have not yet joined (if you’re already a member, then you’re already in). It’s going to be a wonderful time, with lots of stuff going on (including a mini-auction!). Don’t be left out!
DOUGHNUTS!
It’s been a while since we had doughnuts here at the parish (Lent this year gobbled up two of our First Sundays and, being the ascetic and abstemious sorts that we are, we denied ourselves the sugar-saturated, glazed and deep-fried confections). But as the old, familiar hymn proclaims, “The strife is o’er”, and so it’s doughnut time again. Not this week; the Pro-Lifers are serving breakfast, but next week May 14) for sure! QUIZ-A-CATHOLIC Since this month is the month dedicated in our Catholic piety to the holy Mother of God, let’s see how much you know about the various feasts in her honor, specifically the dates on which they are celebrated. See if you can identify the dates on which there feasts of the Blessed Mother are cele-brated (make special notation when that feast is a holy day of obligation):

ANY amount is of assistance, but if you are unable to share this year please at least come and sign your pledge card. Thank You!
ST. VICENT de PAUL SOCIETY As noted in last week’s bulletin, our collection of clothing & household items was very successful due to our wonderful parishioners. In addition to the Vincentians who staffed the event there were four young men who helped, Dean Palmer, Matt Neiner, Peter Hedlesky & Matt Hibbits. Thanks to them for lending some “young muscle” to the “old folks” of the SVDP Society! Our next Food Drive will be May 20/21. We need the usual canned meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, chilis, pastas & pasta sauces. Paper products are always needed also. Thanks for your support in this ministry.
PLANT SALE GRATITUDE Dear Parishioners of St. Angela Merici and kind neighbors, our Pro-Life Committee is extremely thankful for your never-ending support for LIFE! Even with the monsoon-like weekend, many peo-ple braved the rain and purchased a multitude of gorgeous flowers and plants! We raised over $1800 to be used to support many life-affirming organizations and to promote LIFE in our parish

Based on an original story by William Rankin, the film stars Pat O'Brien as Fr. Dunne. Despite many obsta-cles, Father Dunne creates a safe place for boys who make their livelihood selling newspapers in a tough and sometimes violent world. He is aided by his sister and her husband, a lawyer friend, a cantankerous old Irishman, and Archbishop John Joseph Glennon.
Popcorn and soda will be provided—see you Friday night.

We have been very fortunate to have very dedicated volunteers over the years. Due to health issues for some of our volunteers it has made it hard for them to continue; I am forever grateful for their years of service. This is a great community outreach opportunity!!! You need no experience. You will be trained and it is not hard but it is loads of fun!
