Really useful Group Theatres is currently refurbishing a large front of house area of the London Palladium at a cost of £2.5 million. The area concerned previously comprised the box office and various administration support rooms. Over the last 20 years we have seen a massive change in the way tickets are sold with the majority of tickets now being sold either through call centres or via the Internet. Only a small percentage of tickets are now sold at the theatre's box office. This has presented us with an opportunity to reduce the size of the box office at the London Palladium and use the space gained to provide additional facilities for our customers. We are providing much needed additional public toilets and improving the entrances into the auditorium and stalls bar. It is intended that the refurbished area will also provide additional overflow space from the existing stalls bar which is a relatively small area given that the stalls of the London Palladium seats 1,023 customers. For this reason we are making this application for a full variation to permit alcohol to be sold and consumed in the newly created hospitality area which is highlighted in pink on the attached plan. For the sake of clarity, we are not seeking a variation to the permitted hours for the sale by retail of alcohol as currently set out on the existing licence. The refurbishment scheme has full planning and listed building consent.

The applicant will agree and offers the following work condition or any variation thereof: a) The parts where alterations take place will not be open to the public until the premises have been assessed as satisfactory by the Environmental Health Consultation Team and this condition has been removed from the licence. b) Before the premises open to the public, the plans as deposited will be checked by the Environmental Health Consultation Team to ensure they are an accurate reflection of the premises constructed. Where the premises layout has changed during the course of the construction new plans shall be provided to the Environmental Health Consultation Team and the Licensing Authority. The changes to the plan do not impact on the four licensing objectives but promote the licensing objectives as the premises will become safer and has no impact on access and egress. Each of the above applications to remove or amend conditions are made jointly and separately so that if any variation is not accepted the others may be granted.
