A volcano is a cone shaped mountain. It is part of the earth’s crust. Lava, ashes, and hot gases come out of a volcano when it erupts, or blows up.
Lava is liquid and moves like syrup. Lava is very hot until it has time to cool down. A volcano can be above land or under the water.
The largest volcano on earth is in Hawaii. The name of this volcano is Mauna Loa. It is 6 miles tall!
