Interactive installations

Mediamatic develops interactive installations that turn events into interactive playgrounds. Many of the installa-tions were created by artists during Mediamatic workshops. The installations connect an event’s physical reality with the visitor’s virtual world.

Visitors can draw digital paintings, record their own music video, befriend others by taking pictures together, and be-come a fan of their favorite parts of the program. All this can be shared in real-time with their Facebook network.

ikTagShare your event experiences with your friends online with-out even so much as touching a computer. Like the OV chip card and OBA library pass, the ikTag contains an RFID chip. This chip is linked to your selected online profiles. You can use the ikTag to activate and play with all of Mediamatic’s interactive installations. But you can also use it to make pay-ments. Scan your ikTag in front of the indicated area. The rest speaks for itself.

ikCamYou can do several things with an ikCam:

1. Register on the social network, or connect your profile to Facebook.

2. Take a group picture. When several people scan their RFID tag and take a picture together, they automatically become connected on the social network. All ikCam pictures are up-loaded directly to your selected online profiles. After the event, you can easily get back in touch with those you met.

Physical “I like it” button Share your experiences with your Facebook network. This is how it works:

1. Connect your RFID tag to Facebook using one of the ikCams.

2. Scan your RFID tag in front of the Facebook thumbs up belonging to the installation, presentation or program seg-ment that you “like”.

3. A notice will appear on your wall. All your ikCam pictures will be uploaded to your Facebook profile as well.

Your RFID tag has become a physical “I like it” button. Don’t waste any time and share your experiences with your friends in the blink of an eye.

ikPollThe ikPoll is a fun way to express your opinion of the event program. Forget about those dull questionnaires and play around with this mobile polling station. Just scan your RFID tag in front of the statement that represents your opinion the best. The results are projected in real-time, which means you can compare your experience of the event with that of other visitors.

If you’ve connected your RFID tag to Facebook, the votes you cast will generate an “I like it” wall post.

ikWinThe ikWin is a Google popularity contest. Dare someone to compete with you, scan your RFID tags, step into the eleva-tor and start the ikWin. Whoever has the most Google hits on his or her name, wins.

The ikWin was created by Simon Claessen, Axel Roest en Mathias Forbach during the Mediamatic Social RFID work-shop at PICNIC 2008.

iTeaThe iTea is an interactive tea table. Drop your RFID tag in the teacup and find out what the iTea knows about you.

The iTea was created by Don Blaauw, Erik Borra, David Kousemaker, Dirk van Oosterbosch, Vlad Trifa and Esther Weltevrede during the Mediamatic RFID workshop at PIC-NIC 2007.

ikCam AlleycatThe ikCam Alleycat is a photo race 2.0. ikCams at various locations function as checkpoints. There is no predefined track; the racer decides on the fastest route. Check in by taking a picture with the ikCam. The picture is published on your profile, along with your elapsed time.

You can follow the entire race on the Backchannel, which will show the checkpoint pictures.

The ikCam Alleycat was created by Cees van Nooij during Mediamatic’s Sur Place workshop on urban bike culture in 2010.

friendSlicerStar in your personal music video with your friends. All you have to do is scan your RFID tag, get in the video booth and follow the instructions. The friendSlicer records your input and searches your social network for friends who did the same. Sounds and visuals are sampled, mixed and matched to form a unique music video performance, which you can view just seconds after submitting your sound samples. The friendSlicer was created by Andras Sly Szalai, Jeff Lieberman and Eric Gunther during the Mediamatic Hacker Camp at PICNIC 2009.

Wow!Wow!, or Write On Wall, is a digital graffiti installation. Create your own piece and share it with your selected social networks.

Use your lighter, mobile phone, or bicycle light to write a message or make a drawing on the wall. Swipe your RFID tag across the indicated area to save the image, claim authorship, and post the result on your own, or a friend’s Facebook wall.

BackchannelThroughout the event you can share your thoughts and keep track of everything that happens at the same time. ikCam pictures, tweets, polling results and output from the interac-tive installations are projected in real-time on one or two big screens.
